Sorry meant to add, you can't beat a weir pool, a place of mystery. Remember fishing a weir pool on the River Lea with my now departed Dad on Christmas eve. After a couple of chub on the feeder he landed a 5lb Tench. Whilst he was paying the bailiff for our day tickets he asked me to hit a bite on his rod. The result being a 3lb 12oz Perch, a truly massive old warrior. I was nearly offered for adoption after that. Great memories and so many over the years. I still miss him but he's still there when I'm on the bank now. We could have a good day even when we blanked and that's how it should be.
My god, I wouldn’t mind fishing that weir pool if it still offers such variety of species and impressive sizes of fish! 🤩🎣🐟🐟🐟 What a session, and to do it with you dad on Christmas Eve… Most of us have good memories of Christmas, but that will take some beating…
@@themagicoffishing we fished it many times after that but never repeated that magic day. It also held big barbel and chub. Visited it a few years back, and how it had changed, with man made banks and tree removal. I think that they'd removed the magic as well. But I still have the memory of that special day and so many others with my best friend, my Dad. A man who was in his last days, dying from cancer said to me 'sorry I've messed up your fishing season'
As an angler, every once in a while we have a red letter day and they stay long in the memory and keep us addicted to angling. Thanks for sharing your lovely anecdote
I reckon that cut will be a fish nursery until they get to a size, then enter the main river. If you and "smithy" went in one of the swanky riverside wine bars I reckon some of the hoity toity southerners might politely make their exit, muttering things like "didn't realise the time"! 😂
Another great video and as you say, you can't get better than a days free fishing ! Thanks for sharing John and look forward to your next adventure on the bank :) Cheers Paul.
@@themagicoffishing What's the chance of being able to catch one with you fishing the old Sheffield venue up Moorwood Lane where you started your fascination of Fishing? Does the pond still exist?
Great film John! I've walked along that stretch many times and have always thought about fishing it... With your expert guidance, I think I may just give it a go... Thank you! 🎣❤️🎣
I love reading the comments on here from truly passionate and like minded anglers often of an older generation. It almost feels like our own little club. 👍😀
It’s funny, Graham, my old fishing mate from Sheffield, Andy, said something along those lines the other day! He’s a bit shy of making comments himself it seems, but he said he enjoys reading them almost as much as the videos. I can’t tell you how much I enjoy reading them and replying whenever I get chance - it makes all the filming and editing worthwhile and has become an unexpected but rewarding aspect of being on RUclips. Have a great weekend and thanks for contributing to the community as always.
Hey John, I cant belive this, thats were im going on Sunday, welcome to Weybridge, great video mate, its a lovely strech, great job, and yep as always mate great video.

Nice session Haven't fished the Thames for many years but always loved it when I did. Learnt my river skills when I lived in Derby, fishing the upper Trent and the River Derwent where I was a bailiff. Returned to Kent over 20 years ago. Love your videos. Stay safe and thanks
Thanks David! 💙🙏 I walked the banks of the Derbyshire Derwent only yesterday evening, with my wife, and I’m currently sat outside the Barrel Inn, near Eyam, overlooking the stunning Peak District. I feel like I’m home ☺️ A lovely day off work before the last match of the summer season (near Retford) tomorrow. Just walked 8 miles and enjoying a 🍺 Sun’s shining too. If you’ve read my book you’ll know the Derwent (Froggatt) was also a very special place for my granddad and I 🎣🐟
Thank you again John, i love fishing places like that, you never know whats comming, i am a lucky men, i live near the biggest river in the Netherlands, the Rijn and near Doorwerth the place were i was born are some amezing places to fish, also the paces were my grandfather was teaching me how to fish. when i am up for it i will send you an e-mail for signing my copy of your book. Hi John I’m new to the channel and have to say it’s brilliant. Your laid back style of presenting is fantastic I always feel relaxed and “chilled out” after watching. As a young angler I fished the mighty Trent,Soar and Derwent as living between Nottingham and Derby these great rivers were on my doorstep. After 25 years of being away from fishing with odd sessions with the father in law, I’m fully immersed back in my fishing. The idea of a TMOF club is a great one I definitely would join. You need to come to North Wales and sample the best Grayling fishing in the UK on the Dee. Tight lines John and keep these brilliant videos coming 🎣🎣🎣
Brilliant comment and a brilliant username - thanks 😄🙏💙 I’m really chuffed you’ve found the channel and are enjoying it. I suppose I see it as ‘the club’ for the moment, or certainly the great community of like minded anglers that seems to be springing up around it. Maybe one day I’ll try to create something more club-like but work, family and editing is still keeping me flat out at the moment. I LOVE a grayling and there aren’t many in Surrey 😟 I used to catch them from the Derwent with my granddad, which I write about in the book, and more recently landed some whoppers from the Test - ruclips.net/video/n-gmwTyvCaA/видео.htmlsi=LeuTUiuC4gBZf4iv I also love Wales 🏴 and we had a cracking family holiday in Aberdovey a few years back. It would grand to get back there and catch some grayling at some point. I need more time 🕰️! Thanks again and please keep the comments coming. Another video out today at 12 👍🎣🐟
Seriously?! 30lb… 🤯🎣👍 Think that would beat my best ever roach haul (of maybe 20lb+ from the Wey in winter). Bet they were quality fish on the tares too.
Lovely video as always. Like you, I have lived near the Thames (in Fleet) for the majority of my 50 years, but never fished it. I think I have been put off by the vastness of it and not knowing where to begin and hence why I have always stuck to more familiar haunts. However, next Tuesday I have booked a guide for some Barbel fishing very near to where you were fishing and look forward to my first venture onto the water.
Great minds thinks alike 😀 It’s certainly vast and not knowing where to start can keep you away. Great idea to book a guide and I hope it goes well - I’m yet to manage a Thames barbel and understand it can take many hours of effort, but there are still some real fish of a lifetime to be caught.
Nice video John your definitely on my wave length when it comes to fishing love the Thames in fact was brought up on the Tidal Thames at Richmond catching herring size dace on hemp. I think the only problem fishing the Thames this time of year is the boats although most of them show respect like those girls in canoes 👍 if you go back and give it a try again don’t forget to take bread bit of crumb and punch promise you it works wonders so under valued. Plush it does catch the bigger roach I always mix in some hemp with the crumb 👍 good luck and keep them coming. I thought I’d seen most of your videos but came across the Test video I did comment but also forgot to add look at the Lower Itchen Fishery not far from Southampton airport fabulous fishery not sure what they charge these days but use to be an amazing venue for grayling 👍
Brilliant comment - dace like herrings…. Love it! If I find them, or indeed the better roach, I will be a happy man. I did have some good’uns near Old Windsor - ruclips.net/video/fNOgTuuQ31Y/видео.htmlsi=D8CLnjny1uwSIKKz - but no monsters. I’m just starting out on my Thames adventures… 🎣🐟🤞 Cheers for now 🍻

Haha, there were a LOT of canoeists at one point! But it didn’t last too long 👍 I will definitely be returning in the autumn to see if I can get to some better fish - maybe a hemp and tare job… 🤔🎣🐟

Another great video John on a river I’ve yet to fish. I love to hear you reminisce about your childhood as it brings back so many thoughts of my own adventures. Fishing on a small stream or a farmers pond are my earliest memories and fill my head with excitement to return to the bank once more. I would love if you could do a video on a farmers pond that is rarely fished as I remember from my youth the anticipation of not knowing what fish I would catch. Perhaps that’s why to this day I still have an affection for Crucian carp as I caught so many as a lad. Keep up the good work my friend and tight lines to you as always.
Another fantastic comment, thank you 🙏 ⭐️ I would love to find and fish a truly untouched (unfished) farm pond someday and will definitely keep an eye or ear out. Hi John. Your videos are now one of the highlights of my week. Having now read your book, I can honestly say that it's up there with the best angling books I've ever read. Be assured that's a high bar indeed, as it ranks alongside the works of the great Chris yates, BB, Jack Hilton, Rod Hutchinson and Dick Walker.
That is a ridiculously high bar, as I love reading anything from all of those angling greats and you’ve seriously moved me by leaving such high praise for my own little memoir 🥰☺️ Thank you 🙏 Comments like this may inspire me to crack on with the follow up someday, although I only have around four chapters down and between work, family and RUclips, I have zero spare time these days. Hi John, another great video & not too far down river from me (Maidenhead). Just back from a few days camping in Devon & took your book. What a great read - finished it in a couple of days. You have a real talent for writing as well as presenting on the videos. What a coincidence that when reading the Ghost chapter of the book, I was in a campsite just 5 km to the east of Combe Martin! I think there is real potential for you to form a ‘The Magic of Fishing Club’ & perhaps have a few charity matches? Raising money for a mental health charity maybe??? Have a great day tomorrow - tight lines. Jim
Thanks Jim - a magnificent comment that’s put a smile on my face before bedtime. i fish the cut but further down, the road that runs behind you has a couple of lay buys that you can park in and you just walk across the road to the river.I have found the best fishing up there is from September up until it turns cold and frosty in November. There are some massive perch along the cut.Good to see the dace coming out and you got plenty of fish.
Fantastic to hear from someone who knows the venue and you’ve really whet my appetite for giving it another go, particularly during the autumn. I’ve not caught many but LOVE big perch, too. Thanks for watching and commenting and perhaps I will meet you down on the Cut sometime! 🎣🐟
@themagicoffishing I've had them to 3lb 12oz myself but not been targeting them, they take the roach you are catching.Another thing I have noticed up there is overcast days are far more productive. I will be up there for a few sessions so may see you.
Hello John. Me again. Still soaking up every moment of your videos, and still wanting to go fishing myself. So far it'd a relatively stress free week (for a change_, and so looking in on this u[load is more a pleasure than a medicine. Catching a bag of silver like that is worth it's weight in gold. I'll leave you to get and say TTFN
I’m replying from a bench outside a pub in the Peak District - a day off work before the final summer fishing match of the summer - and I’m looking out over some stunning scenery with a cold pint and pack of crisps (well deserved after 8 miles!)👌😎 🍺 Only one thing could improve my mood further, and that’s hearing from you my friend 🎣🐟 Glad to hear you’ve had a relatively stress free week and may it continue into the weekend 👍
Thanks Paul! 💙😎 Yes, the book is still for sale (second edition) and it’s nice of you to ask. Most major booksellers stock it online and I usually include a link to Amazon in the video description. Here you go and - if you decide to buy - I really hope you enjoy it and thanks for the custom 🙏 The Magic of Fishing amzn.eu/d/82n06na
Thanks! And I’ve since been told it fishes much better in autumn 👍🐟 There is a small car park called Thames Towpath Car Park, near The Minnow pub, in Weybridge. Free parking and it’s a short walk down the path from there when the pegs start (just beyond a rowing club. Here’s a Google Maps links for the parking … maps.app.goo.gl/zGY6Xrjzbwes5rfCA?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy
It’s mad isn’t it?! So many places to fish and so little time!!! 🕰️ 🤯 I’ve got to say the channel has given me a big kick up the bum to look around and explore, but the more I discover the more I realise I’ve been living close to somewhere else I’ve never dangled a bait…
Hi John, another great post from "The Carlsberg" of you tube angling. How about getting together for a fun day match with the subscribers who would like to take part. Is there a venue large enough? Have a great weekend, hopefully a winners rosette winging your way. All the best, Lines tight, bagged up & resplendent 🐟🪱🎣👍
Cheers Smiffy! That’s a grand idea and chimes with another comment on this video, suggesting a TMOF club! For the moment, the channel is the club, but it would be great to do a match or series of fish-ins at some point… Just finding the time and balancing the fact that some are local to us while others are all over the country. Will keep this idea in mind though… 🤔😀🎣🐟 Cheers for now 🍻

i fish the cut but further down, the road that runs behind you has a couple of lay buys that you can park in and you just walk across the road to the river.I have found the best fishing up there is from September up until it turns cold and frosty in November.
Nellie - amazing angler and really nice guy. Would be great to see him on your vids
Don’t know Nellie? A local angler perhaps, or a fellow RUclipsr? Thanks for the suggestion though 👍
Nellie is Neil Wayte
is your book still available? if so please can you give me details of how to order? great videos, really enjoy them.
Thanks Paul! 💙😎 Yes, the book is still for sale (second edition) and it’s nice of you to ask. Most major booksellers stock it online and I usually include a link to Amazon in the video description. Here you go and - if you decide to buy - I really hope you enjoy it and thanks for the custom 🙏

Tight lines 🎣👍
Thanks! And I’ve since been told it fishes much better in autumn 👍🐟 There is a small car park called Thames Towpath Car Park, near The Minnow pub, in Weybridge. Free parking and it’s a short walk down the path from there when the pegs start (just beyond a rowing club.
Here’s a Google Maps links for the parking …

A Young’s Purist II 🎣
I only live up the road, it's criminal that I haven't fished it myself!
@@themagicoffishing yes same, keep the videos coming love them!
Free fishing im on my way
Haha, tight lines 😄🎣🐟👍
U must have had a hard paper round mate, u look 15 years older!
LOL 😂
