Culture's Obsession with Beauty, When is it Enough?

- How can we value the beauty we have, take care of it and YET not be obsessed with our beauty? How can we hold out hope for younger women who are wondering if they need to get preventative botox or filler at 20? How can we talk about our beauty in front of our young daughters so they don't grow up thinking that all their value lies in merely being decorative?
I am not saying I have all the answers, these are just issues I have been thinking and praying through for a couple of years and wanted to bring up, especially for the Christian women out there.
Sending love your way mama,

This a conversation I have been having with my friends for years and thought I would just share my wrestling here on the channel. Zero judgement if you have had work done (I could have done a better job stressing this in the video) we all have different convictions on these issues. I am just talking about our hearts and how we can hold out hope for younger generations. I welcome your thoughts, even if you disagree with me 💞
I watched the inauguration and thought the same thing. The most beautiful older women are those who embrace their aging and it’s so beautiful to me.
@@shelbyd576 SAME! I am inspired by those women and encouraged by their example!
This is so true! The more you do, the more you feel you need to do to keep up!
I just recently have run across your videos and I wanted to encourage you on this one; so well said with grace and thoughtfulness. I think this issue has snuck in the church and women maybe haven’t thought on a deeper level it’s implications. You mentioned stewardship at the end and that is one perspective I have viewed cosmetic enhancements from; am I stewarding what God has given me in a way that brings Him glory? My appearance and the money I spend on my appearance. There are so many questions I think we should be asking as Christian women about why we do what we do and the heart behind it. I commend you for your boldness bc I have felt it’s a bit taboo to bring up these days. Thank you for the content you share. It has been very encouraging to me and I can sense your humility, authenticity and love for the Lord and wanting to please him. ❤️
I was praying about this and this video popped up. Very timely
It's so hard being friends that get botox and lip fillers. Obviously everyone can live their own life the way they want.. but I start to notice my own self compared to them and it's hard. They all go to the salon, gym, nails done, botox and fillers.. etc and it's even harder when I see that after we had babies. I'm here in survival mode and their out treating themselves with the most vanity. It's hard :/;
I can relate in some ways, but I think I just have to bring it back to the path Jesus wants me on. Trusting that a better path for me will lead to a better destination for me. It was certainly harder to relate to my friends who were living that lifestyle, but I do have some friends that I love dearly that aren't convicted in that way, so I am just trusting that we all have our own walk with Jesus. But yes I get what you are saying.
Thank you for this. I also feel the same way.
I am 27, married for 7 years with 3 babies and you bless my heart so much with every video, and this one is no different. I would not have guessed you are 36 because your heart is so so refreshing and youthful yet inspiring to me, like the big sis i never had. If you ever felt called to some type of womens group, virtually or zoom just someway to connect to titus 2 women I would be 1st in! Also just ordered power of christian contentment❤
Love all of this 🙌🏽 during the latter years of my 30’s the grays started growing. I initially thought these are my “wisdom highlights” and embraced them. But as more grew & became noticeable the more insecure I felt. All of my friends were talking about gray hair in such a negative way. So for the first time ever I dyed my hair & continued for a few years. Until I hit 40 & something changed! I desired to be true to myself & that meant embracing my God given “Wisdom Highlights” I will admit it’s not the easy road going against the grain but I’m standing strong in my convictions! Thank you for this encouraging reminder 💛
Thanks for sharing your experience going against the grain Shelly! So valuable to hear about other women and how they are working this issue out in their hearts and lives!
I WISH this message was shared as often as the message about how we just are not good enough and it all boiling down to an aesthetic. It is just so deeply sad. But God is in control and we need to trust that it will all be good again 🙏
Spoke truthfully ❤
I just taught about that scripture from 1 Peter 3:1-17 in our women's study group and it was my main scripture on the fruit of the Spirit of gentleness. And why this fits is because God is sharing he doesn't want us so focused on our outer beauty that we forsake the growth and beauty of our inner selves because that is what God treasures. And a lack of gentleness (strength in control) would mean we are focused on controlling situations instead of trusting what God has given us and blessed us with. Beauty IS fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Dont let this culture of focusing on all things superficially cause you to fear what is normal and beautiful in its own way and let your roots grow down deep into Him!
This is 100%
I remember 3 years ago i had always been changing my hair color and one time I had asked my husband what color looks nice ? I want to dye my hair. And he said do you even hear how that sounds? Do you want to kill your hair!😅
Ah yes so interesting!
Amen 🩷
