- Filmed in Jamaica, Roaring Lion charts the growth and development of the Rastafarian Movement and its founder, the former Garveyite Leonard Howell. With interviews from the renowned academic and Rasta scholar Professor Barry Chevannes and several of the movements leading figures, Mortimmo Plano, Fimore Alvaranga, Dago and Gertrude Campbell, the documentary charts the Movements growth from a persecuted commune in the foothills of Pinnacle, Jamaica, to an internationally recognized religion.
Proud east African . I'm a proud Ethiopian and Eritrean because they were one in 1930
bless up for this
Well versed Dude

@Purushadasa
exellent, i like that its maid my day
They that sow with tears, shall reap with Joy !
I'm a practising Roman Catholic, but was brought up to respect all peoples and their belief systems. My respect to Rastafari, as it seems to hold so many truths and goodnesses. God Bless, by whatever name we call Him
I like how there's subtitles, even though you can tell exactly what he's saying without them....
Blessed Love.
@guttaboi88 interesting, do you have any links to the good books mention of this? thanks.
we can go at this daily but I'm on vacation from my great job until April, I'm sure you have all the time in this world to rant and rave on RUclips but grown ups see the value of hard, honest work and do so. I see you've thrown 4 more boomerangs. Maybe watching Eddie Murphy in "1000 Words" will be easier for you to learn. Experience mental stability before your rising heart rate chokes the life out of you like the former Me would have. Knowledge is Power, Peace and Respect is the MOVEMENT
@mikeysutube Count Ossie and the Mystic Revelation of Rastafari...Early Nyahbinghi music. One love!

I asked you a simple question have you been to the caribbean in particular JAMAICA
@APPLELICIOUS27 and do we know what the queen and king solomon looked like? i really have no clue, its like asking me if jesus was white brown or black i would guess an arabic brown...........
Perfect sense has always been so beautiful to the ear!
@flyinghotwing well he was a mix..when you look his biography up it tells you tht he was descended from solomon and the queen of sheba.
Rastafarian is my country
have you been to africa or the caribbean?
the original post was 2 months ago
@DR000 than what you doin here professor ?
@dwc311 who are you to say that about someone elses religion?
Have you been to the caribbean?
@PhilBorsellino Hallelujah..his holy name
@flyinghotwing king solomon was black, its says that in the song of solomon, how he was black and his locks were bushy and black as a raven
@Alcatrazz013 praise Jah :)
READ YOUR BIBLE! lmao that got me there
random unplanned acts of raving and kindness
@DR000 So stuff flying around is able to be proved by science? Love how you think.
@DR000 :) of course I am.
I understand your comparison and can easily tell that it was not meant to offend.
Waste no time reasoning with doubting Thomas like ones.embrace love of Rasta and self and live up in one love.
I wanna know how did they get from Jamaica to etheopia
Have you heard of something called an Aeroplane? if so then that's your answer.
@RDHILDE18 lol, SURE...
It wasn't exactly my intention to put the label directly at someone, I tried to do my best to do it indirectly- English is my 4:th language. Are you trying rationalize and justify your argument perhaps by my labels, while you using labels in your comments yourself? Let's both learn from this and stop. Life is a learning process.
@PhilBorsellino it comes from the word JAHWE. Jehovah and JAH, both words come from this word.
rastafari lives only in the present moment
What am I telling you!? It's hard to see past labels when one is labeled himself for something to make someone else to feel better of himself, I am not guilty and am tired of racial bullshit. Judgement, condemnation or hate, it's all a product of being weak so one thinks of a plan to feel better of who they are. Served with politics and religion, man twists his tongue when trying to talk good. At least we can agree on that! Take it easy out there brother!
What does the former king of Ethiopia have to do with the bible?
Can somebody explain to me why Haile Selassie I is considered to be God, where is the proof, where is it written? I know that Ethiopians are descendants of the Tribe of Judah according to Kebra Negast, but it says nothing about Haile Selassie I 's coming, to my knowledge.
Also, what is the connection between Emmanuel I, Marcus Garvey, and Haile Selassie I? Who was Emmanuel I and why is he important to Rastas?
I think you misunderstand I did not mean Mystery I meant My story not his Tory The Bible is not a religious book It is a book about How to live and coexist with each other and also A book about precedent about My and your Ancestors It is not meant to be a religious book
I believe in Jah, Buddha, Christ, all of them. Why? Bcz they are just ideas that hel to motivate and keep people and society in a positive direction. Something to look up to, if you will. Jah bless everyone on this wonderful planet
Its not about loving bob marley or peter tosh, surely you could be rastafari even youre not livin in jamaica, its a religion. You could be rastafarian wherever you come from, who ever you are and even you would not like reggae music, its more than that
Rastafari are beautiful people.
Having lived in Ethiopia for 2 years, I was sad to see that they don't embrace the Rastafari there, against herb and the way of life.. the majority being catholic or muslim they don't share the same view that Ras Tafari fufilled any biblical prophecy. Ethiopians being beautiful people too I remain neutral in the subject, just a surprising fact about the link between Rasta and Addis.
All the bickering and bad thoughts that lead to bad speech which lead to bad actions, you cannot fix a car or build a house with just one tool, you cannot have just one road, out of many shall be one, whoever, whatever, whichever your God is, the way, the tool, the true belief is LOVE, peace brethren.
I learned Selassie represent a lion! It also says in revelations the beast will have the head of a lion..
really?, in 1:12 I learned that Haile Selassie was coronated as King of Ethiopia in 1930 and representatives from 52 nations were there to witness it. Also learned where the term "Rastafari" came from even though I already knew that. If you watch the complete documentary, you will definitely get some good teaching. check it out
I still stand by those words, I didn't say black community for a reason. Put it in context of what we have talked about.
0:27 IRIE!!!
@XxscenekidzrulexX I agree with this comment. It is a total contradiction.
when you go to jamaica and learn about what the european did we can have a discussion because it's clear you have not Until then talk about what you know not what you don't
JAH NAME BE PRAISED HAILE SELASSIE I
Google this:
Lucky Dube-2000 Afropop
Lucky gives an interesting view of Rastafarians.
You said you don't believe in black and white yet in a previous comment you mentioned black as a way of describing said community Your argument seems a bit hypocritical
YOU MET ONE AFRICAN IN THE WEST WHO ISN'T IGNORANT ABOUT HIS ANCESTORS YOU HAVN'T BEEN TO THESE PLACES YOU TALK ABOUT BUT WANT TO GIVE ME A HISTORY LESSON ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?
Haile Selassie was an Ethiopian Orthodox Christian and he explicity denied his divine status as proclaimed in Jamaica
dred like rasta! jah jah
and brandon
@shelbydee60656 I don't understand. They believe he is the second coming of Jesus and im asking why?
I'm Tryna be a Rastafarian
can someone pls tell my white self wht the difference, if any, there is between 'rastafari" & "rastafaris"?- this has been bothering me for yrs....though I get the whol 'isms' thing
why is haile selassie considered the jesus incarnate?
Cause he is christ n his kingly character wen he was crown nov 2 1930..king of kings n lord of lords.he was crowned wit da scepter n da golden globe representing he rules da world
Man you are not giving up!Yes certain Europeans had to do with colonialism and imperialism. But these were mostly rich inquisitory royal capitalist that needed wealth in order to maintain power, also Arabs in northern Africa were also slave dealers and masters, between 1500 and 1800 there were even light skinned slaves in northern Africa. The slave dealers that sold slaves were mostly pirates that kidnapped people and sold them -- in your regard, blacks to "american" soil to those slave owners.
we're worried about brandon
I don't believe in god but I believe in rastafari Bob Marley style and if u do believe in a god the no worries u know don't worry be happy
im confused
*****
SO africa or the caribbean was never clonialized by the european powers ?
it makes me sad when i look at the comments and the first one is a religion argument.
original dred like rasta
@DR000 No you wouldn't know. Try it once. Like I said, it disproves your "science" theory.
I have read it,if you still want to keep your argument in spite of the fact that I already explained to you what I meant, then your argument holds weak and we have nothing further to discuss. Do you know why there is a caucasian christ? Because in early christianity it was forbidden to depict christ. But as religion spread and reached the greec regions, a more caucasian looking Christ emerged resembling how people looked there.
@vojinvidanovic79 True Ras, but true freedom IS given by The Most I, not by the downpressor. That is the difference.
Yes he did say read your bible. Then it was cut off.
@auq21 its just in another language LOL!
@mistermateriel he's not in the bible. his name that is
also the term white was also initiated by the EUropean
ethiopia is a very old and holy nation. ethiopia was also the first and only african nation to defeat a europian nation and not become colonized.
Interesting indeed but in my opinion, it is just a coincidence. I do want to research 666 but it is so hard finding stable sources. Many spiritual people think that their beliefs and practices are legitimized simply because they are "Spiritual/Holy" people and it's just not so.
@shelbydee60656 LOL nevermind. your wrong. i researched it myself. thanks Your answer did not make sense at all.
i'm black but damm do jamiacans even know how many black kings there are in africa and if the man really was jesus why is the world still shitty they need to think and not follow blindly the knowledge from a ex rasta
I know the context it's better if you had said African ancestral You can't criticize others for labeling when you are doing the same
@oc00011 Here's some explanation I. Haile Selassie I, Jah Rastafari was crowned King of Kings, Lord of Lords, elect of God, all conquering Lion of the tribe of Judah in 1930. It is written in Revelations that the Lion of Judah will break the 7th seal, wich signals the beginning of the Armageddon. You said for yourself that Kebra Negast teaches us the lineage of the Solomonic Dynasty, in wich Selassie I is the last one. (BTW he is still alive, so his son is no king.)
Revelation 17:9
@maaruz1979 relax both of you rastafarianism is about chillin not hating!
Go back and read your original post DUDE
And yet each has caused more harm then good... :'(
@MajorRyan30 yes i know he didnt say he was god, im not saying that. selassie was a christian and a follower of christ. but rastas believe hes god (christ incarnated) and thats just false.
@XxscenekidzrulexX proverbs 3:7 Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding! god knows everything from past to present to future! yes god did order the killing of men women and children in the bible, they were wicked people worshiping idols and sacrificing there childen to them, and if everyone was gay back then would you and me be here today?? and they are no contradictions in the bible, theres a perfect explaination to everything that seems to be one.
20 years after slavery was abolished in England the Americasa kept slavery alive Yes Many wealthy groups had slavery I don't blame the European for everything because They have their own isms amongst each other the Scotts against the English being one of them The same thing you are telling me I hope you espouse that openly in your daily life
the original post said'a certain black community had an ideological agenda ' don't be a hypocrite You talk about people labeling when that's what you did from the first post you put up
You may not have intended to label but you did I don't do it and never have This only means you need to be a little more cognisant of what you say and think
Irie
My friend is Ethiopian and he thought it was funny coming to Europe cause the images of Jesus that he'd seen was much darker. You can google it and you will see a dark skinned Jesus in African literature. Secondly, Europeans were slave dealers, the only slavery that was promoted through race was of that happening in american soil. If you look at history, slavery had no racial origin. So I really don't know what you mean by European slave master, I am half European and I have never heard of it.
