It's a small thing, but I appreciate that you have regular books. They're not special editions. No shelf trophies. Just here to focus on the content. And some good choices from what I've read. Another unique world that doesn’t get talked about much is The Blending Series by Sharon Green. Very interesting world and magic system.
I completely agree with Westeros and Middle Earth! I would also have to include the world of the Inheritance Cycle - so nostalgic for me! I can't wait to get into the Empire of the Vampire world - I hadn't considered the depth that Jay may go to, considering there is no sunlight! So you mentioning that has got me even more excited to start it! 🌄
Great video, dude. And massive congrats on 5k! It’s gotta be Middle-earth for me, it’s just the best and all the others are far harsher places to live when I could be chilling with the elves in Imladris 😂
I am half way through Fire and Blood at the moment, I agree with you, the world is so real, people say it reads like a history book, but I just love Westerosi history/world building.
Malazan is just such a massive, expansive world. All of these are definitely their own thing-but everything in Malazan seems so unique and dynamic as the story goes on. I’m only in the first 3rd of book 5 now and it’s just so wild still. Great choices! Malazan has so far (with the exception of LOTR films) has had such an impact. Osten Ard is another absolutely fantastic world which inspired game of thrones which is so sick
Congrats on 5K! I haven't read two of these, but definitely can't argue with your picks for the others. I think if I were to make my own version of this I'd be compelled to include Dresden too.
My top 5 would have to be as follows:- Hogwarts The Shire The detective agency of dresden files The faithful and the fallen and Priory of the orange tree. I plan on starting The Wheel of time next year as well as Malazan as I have book one in Malazan
The way you described the Song of Ice and Fire series is exactly how I felt about the world. It all felt so real and so magical, and there were so many great characters for us to follow while they explored that world. I really loved all of the theories that came along with it too. (I refuse to accept the TV show's ending as canon. Did not feel like GRRM's vision at all.) After that show broke my heart, I was looking for another world to fall in love with, and I found One Piece. I have no idea if manga interests you at all (and I do recommend reading it over watching), but Oda does an incredible job building that world. He also loves to hint at deeper secrets of the world and use clever wordplay (usually in Japanese) to give us clues. There's tons of theories out there about how it's all going to end. It's been a lot of fun to explore. Highly recommend it if you enjoy things like that
@@Radi0actvChickn Completely agree on ASOIAF and the show, they did everyone dirty there. I’ve tried manga a couple times and still haven’t got in the flow with the medium, but One Piece definitely interests me
@@SpacedOutReads That's totally fair. It's not everyone's vibe. I'm hoping to write my own story someday, so I love finding new sources of inspiration. Thank you!
@@Radi0actvChickn I definitely need to try more of it and get my head around it. I’ve read 100 chapters of Berserk and had a good time but fell off in an arc I wasn’t enjoying. Then since then I’ve only tried Sandman but didn’t give it enough of a shot. I’ll definitely get back to it when I free up some tbr space Thanks so much!
I'd say the main worlds that really drew me in were the following; First Law. Your typical low fantasy world. It feels the most genuine to the genre. The people feel real, they feel characterized correctly and you have nice places and then others you wouldn't want to step foot in. Black Company is probably the closest to first law. The world feels vast and interesting and because they travel across a lot of it you can feel the distance and changes when they are from one place to another. Lastly is 40k. Its a universe wirh multiple worlds, races and realms. Its probably the most in depth world ive ever read. Its just so difficult to convey unless you read it, because it's planetary, universal and then you have something like the eye of terror which is where the chaos realm(the warp) bleeds into the physical realm thats full of deamons and is completely and utterly unpredictable. Im excited to get to a few of the worlds you talked about - specifically empire of the damned and the five warrior angel trilogy.
@@Dugrath Black Company and 40k are high priority universes for me to get into as we’ve discussed. I can’t wait for you to try Empire of the Vampire too
My favourite Fantasy worlds would be ASOIAF, Malazan, Second Apocalypse and Realm of the Elderlings. Seriously, the world of RotE gets so much more fascinating as we go.
Hi there! My list would include Mistborn (1st cycle) by Brandon Sanderson, The Faithful and the Fallen by John Gwynne, The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan, The Winnowing Fire Trilogy by Jen Williams (please, check it out!!!), The Fionavar Tapestry by Guy Gavriel Kay, Babel Quartet by Josiah Bancroft and The Three Powers Quartet by Frank P. Ryan. I haven't read Stormlight Archive, Joe Abercrombie nor Malazan yet, so this might change in the near future!
Shoutout to The Witcher being on here! Also jump started my fantasy reading along with The Crystal Shard. Also, very curious by what you mean by a soft/hard magic system… confused by this concept. To me, magic is magic. lol
@@IGotTheJazz Hell yeah! It’s just a term for when the magic system has rules laid out on page so the reader knows exactly what and how the magic works, kind of like in a video game. I’m like you, I don’t mind what system the author uses as long as we get magic, though sometimes hard magic systems can feel a bit too sciency 😅😅
