  • Pete and Shel have come to a crossroads with the old Autosleeper Legend: should they give the old van a makeover and deal with the age-related issues, or should they move on to a newer moho?

    How refreshing to listen to people like us who are in love with the freedom our small van gives us without needing all the faff of making fresh ground coffee or mood lighting or enough storage to take the contents of an entire house. I hope you continue to enjoy your van for many years to come.

    Hi Happy moho's I was so pleased when came across this video by accident, I can relate to it so much. We started out with tents then a fold out camper and on to a camper van which I hated not being able to stand to cook and being so cramped. As this year my hubby and I are 80 I took our saving's to buy a motor home but didnt have a clue about them. I found one just a few miles away and fell in love at first sight. A 1997 Auto sleeper legend. All is original although the carpet was dirty the seating and curtains really nice 😃We haven't been away in it yet we have it in a friend garage getting checked over and serviced before we venture away. I just hope I am able to drive it as I said we are both 80 but fit and longing to start or adventures. My husband has driven it to the garage, he says he has problems knowing which gear he is in😂 As we live in the North East we have stuck to Yorkshire and Northumberland for our trips and were planning on Scotland but you saying you had been to Spain has given me encouragement to try further afield. Normally we love the country side peace and quiet. Thanks for the encouragement you have given us. Kind Regards Sandra & Alan Storey

      Hi there, thanks for watching and leaving a comment for us. It's true - older vans are a commitment in time and money BUT they are also cheaper. We love practicing our skills without the worry of working an expensive van. If you haven't tried vanlife, then an old van is a good entry to the life. Don't let people out you off - go for it.

    My sister is about to be laid off bc her boss is selling the business. It's tragic, really. I'm very concerned for her bc her landlord is also selling. She's 49 and experiencing the start of what will likely become some crippling health issues as she ages. She needs to get a handle on everything so she won't end up homeless. I'm trying to get her to use her severance package to give van life a try, now that she's not tied to her job anymore. Her rent is $925/ month. For now. But if she gets renovicted from her apartment, she won't be able to afford the next one. Rents have more than doubled since she moved into her current home 10 years ago.
    So aside from the money, I agree that a used camper would be better. If I were to win the lottery tomorrow and could afford almost anything, I would still buy used. Newer RVs are always full of ugly grey everything. I hate the colour grey. It reminds me of ghettos, prisons, ugly weather, my mom's deathbed coiffure, concentration camp photos, and my ugliest fat day pants. Why anybody would want to paint and tile their home in that colour is beyond me >:T So yes. I would get a cute little mid century Jetsons shaped thingie done up in Barbie doll colours with pictures of palm trees on the side. A camper worthy of Elvis and Priscilla and little Lisa Marie 😊😊 And I can explore the Great Beyond with surfer style steel guitar blaring out my window 😊😊
    As for my sister, I'm not sure if she prefers something more 80s and 90s, but I hope she will think on what I'm trying to say to her.

      @thehappymoho  Год назад +3

      Hi there, thanks for posting. It's sounds like your sister is having a really tough time. I hope she finds a good resolution.
      I tend to agree about old vans being more substantially put together. There seems to be more flimsy bits in newer mohos.
      Now to be a bit controversial! I think there is a place for grey - as long as it's not completely grey everywhere. I love the retro look but couldn't go along with too much pink!!! 😉
      Thanks for watching 😊

    Love the idea of making a old van last longer by upgrading the inside to site you. I have just got a power bank and solar panel for my van. I needed the extra power for the awning when we all go away together. Trying to keep from having to use electric hook up

    I hear newer motorhomes are not constructed very well and always something breaking. So you might be making a good decision to keep yours. I think renovating to make it more comfortable or pleasant is cheaper than buying another van you might be worse off. I have a 1988 Lazy Daze all original. I have had it now for about a year and I was going to keep it as is but I decided to do some up dates inside making it more pleasant and easy on the eye lol. Thank you for your video. I look forward to more. By the way, I agree with the other comments and I would love to see the inside :D

      Hi there, rust seems to be a common issue with transits but (despite being 30 years old when we got it) our hasn't been too bad over the past four years. More than the chassis, it's the cab that has needed the most renovation. We're planning a video next month taking a look at the chassis and cab work we've dealt with and what's still to do. If the price is right, a mk3 transit is a good choice because so many parts are available
