My mother had a scrapbook dedicated to Merle Oberon, and I can still remember looking through it. She was so lovely and had more talent than she was given credit. It's a pity she had to hide her identity - that must have been so awful. Thanks for covering her.
She didn't use her grandmother who raised her as a maid, she told people that she was her maid if they were spotted in public together.
She was a perfect "Cathy" as Larry O was THE perfect Heathcliff.

Coming from a family who lived in India during the Raj that's not the dark secret ..in Bombay there was a street of prostitutes they were in cages...the men would walk up and down and choose a woman ..that's were she was "found" her background was Anglo Indian ..her english heritage was what biught her to England

I disliked her portrayal of Catherine very much. She showed no deep attraction for Heathcliff. we were cheated because the whole story was about their great love for each other She like so many others traded on her outer looks. But she was empty on the inside.
