Thankfully the development of the steam deck doesn't actively work against you messing around with it, and isn't likely to brick if you just look at it wrong like a lot of Android phones were and often still are.
It is worth the 5 second install. Adds so much character to your Steam Deck. It is truly random, and I've had the same gameboy boot logo 4 times in a row (I had 11 boot animations at the time). That is statistically unlikely, but possible. I'm hoping for an update that plays a random animation once each boot, then puts that animation to the back of potential playlist.
Great timing! I'm about to release a collection on my site with a bunch of videos and easy to install commands. Eventually, I want to make a decky plugin but wanted to make improvements to the scripts first. Thanks for the shout out! 😀
I remember that as well. But i wasn't careful and bricked my PSP by losing the card with the boot ups so I had to go straight to XMB every time after that 😆
Okay I can confirm that after installation via the first method you can delete and add other webm boot screens by simply dragging and dropping into the deck start up folder via home/hombrew/start up animations/deck start up . This is good for those that keep asking to randomize yet also want to make and add more custom ones
My SteamDeck is supposed to arrive today! This video came just in time, I am so excited to customize everything! Hey man. I would wait to do this because if your deck is faulty. You’re breaking warranty and Valve won’t fix it. Do this maybe a few months in. When you know that your deck is working
@@jackqtvsstuff715 Yeah I put this in my youtube bookmarks for later to do. I'm probably going to be installing games for the first good while. How do un-install these? the random videos aren't random and its permanently stuck on the 360 and refuses to use a different video. Used the konsole to do the automatic setup and install all I need. But now I cant get rid of it to try other methods.
I ran into an issue. I installed the first boot pack you showed and that worked perfectly. Watched the rest of the video and decided I wanted to install the futurama one. I install it as you showed but I still get the random boot pack from the beginning of the video. I went back to that website, copied the uninstall command, pasted, and it tells me that it doesn't exist. I go to my file system on the steam deck to where it should be under "Home brew" and there is no folder named "startup animations". How do I get rid of the OG pack in order to see the futurama startup? Thanks!!
That's a really cool idea. I like the idea of having a personalized lock screen too, so I just might try making some pixel art with GIMP and animating it. Like when I unlock my screen to use the computer it'd be cool if it had a GB style logo that said "Slackware". If I had any skills at animating I'd love to do a Futurama boot screen, but it would like like garbage if I did it.
I'm sure you can somehow make your own, but that functionality is already built in in plasma. in the settings you'll need to search for an option named "splashscreens" or smth like that. And there you'll find a button named something like "find more online" and then you can browse the ones made by the comunity.
So I installed this but then I saw Decky plugins had a new plugin for random animations. well, i ran the uninstall and now it's stuck on this boot instead of the decky plugin. Not sure how to fix it
This is really neat. Does it make booting into the system take longer though? Edit: So I tried the Kage one above and it works but yes, it does make booting into the Steam Deck quite a bit longer, and I restarted a few times just to see what boot animation I would get and there were a few times it took even longer because the Steam Deck needed to verify installation before booting into SteamOS. Not for me. Thankfully there was an easy way to uninstall.
@@T3Houdini So you didn't like it either, huh? On the Github for the Kage one there is a line of code you paste into the konsole to uninstall. Real easy.

I still have all those intros on my hard drive and the thing is I never stopped looking for them, there's only a couple I have now that are not quite thee 1080P, crystal clear, artifact free, 5 star quality that I expect them to be. I had thought of re-uploading them all on my channel with relatively the same name to make it easy for anyone looking for bios intros but I guess I don't need to do something like that anymore.
Anybody know how I can change it again after? I set the ps2 one and now I want to change it to the pipboy one but no matter what it still plays the ps2 one, I have deleted literally all the files for the ps2 off my steam deck but somehow it still plays? Update: realised there was an uninstall option but whenever I run this in konsole it just says “no such file or directory” yet it still continues to play when I boot up the steam deck? Any help would be much appreciated, also, I tried redownloading them and then trying to uninstall, the files were re added to my deck and then I uninstalled to which I was greeted with the same error message as earlier, I then checked my file explorer and the files were gone as if they were deleted but when I reboot steam deck it still plays the custom animations?
If I were particularly wealthy, I would buy a Steam Deck for each of my favorite consoles, then do a custom vinyl wrap with a unique console start-up animation for each one.
Steam has an official way to add custom boot-loaders. I haven’t tested it but I wonder if there’s a difference in boot up times when compared to this method🤔
