Thankfully the development of the steam deck doesn't actively work against you messing around with it, and isn't likely to brick if you just look at it wrong like a lot of Android phones were and often still are.

It is worth the 5 second install. Adds so much character to your Steam Deck.
It is truly random, and I've had the same gameboy boot logo 4 times in a row (I had 11 boot animations at the time). That is statistically unlikely, but possible.
I'm hoping for an update that plays a random animation once each boot, then puts that animation to the back of potential playlist.

Okay I can confirm that after installation via the first method you can delete and add other webm boot screens by simply dragging and dropping into the deck start up folder via home/hombrew/start up animations/deck start up . This is good for those that keep asking to randomize yet also want to make and add more custom ones

My SteamDeck is supposed to arrive today! This video came just in time, I am so excited to customize everything! I remember loading custom boot animations on my Android, and long before that custom boot BMPs in Windows 9X! Hopefully I can download and install these in "one fell swoop" and not "one fail swoop."
    >_>
Edit: Steam Deck arrived actually Wednesday despite FedEx inability to follow instructions. Luckily we had a slow time at work and I was able to rush home in a Lyft and nab it because the box is not at all disguised as what it is inside. The model and name of it are on the frigging shipping label, and I mean it's titled Valve Corporation for the address so be warned.

I install it as you showed but I still get the random boot pack from the beginning of the video. I went back to that website, copied the uninstall command, pasted, and it tells me that it doesn't exist. That's a really cool idea. I like the idea of having a personalized lock screen too, so I just might try making some pixel art with GIMP and animating it. Like when I unlock my screen to use the computer it'd be cool if it had a GB style logo that said "Slackware". If I had any skills at animating I'd love to do a Futurama boot screen, but it would like like garbage if I did it.

Nice to see random bios intos running differently each time you boot it up though.
I still have all those intros on my hard drive and the thing is I never stopped looking for them, there's only a couple I have now that are not quite thee 1080P, crystal clear, artifact free, 5 star quality that I expect them to be.
I had thought of re-uploading them all on my channel with relatively the same name to make it easy for anyone looking for bios intros but I guess I don't need to do something like that anymore.

I set the ps2 one and now I want to change it to the pipboy one but no matter what it still plays the ps2 one, I have deleted literally all the files for the ps2 off my steam deck but somehow it still plays? Update: realised there was an uninstall option but whenever I run this in konsole it just says “no such file or directory” yet it still continues to play when I boot up the steam deck? Any help would be much appreciated, also, I tried redownloading them and then trying to uninstall, the files were re added to my deck and then I uninstalled to which I was greeted with the same error message as earlier, I then checked my file explorer and the files were gone as if they were deleted but when I reboot steam deck it still plays the custom animations?

    EDIT: Found a solution
Question: I am having issues with these boot animations as I have a dual boot of Windows already. I had already attempted your first method, and see all the animation files in my homebrew folder. But none would boot when restarting the deck. It would just go to the dual OS option screen. So I went back in Steam desktop mode and uninstalled the animations file using the uninstall bash from the github. But now when I restart, select steam, the Nintendo 64 animation boots. But that file has already been uninstalled/deleted. I cannot find it anywhere on desktop mode. I want to remove it. Its bright white theme and loud. How do i get rid of it now?
Solution: I found that it was just stuck somehow.. and when I loaded another boot animation via: File Manager > Home > .steam > root > config > uioverrides > movies. And then adding another "webm" video animation file. It replaced the previous stuck N64 animation. (Rename the new added animation "deck_startup.webm" and saved the original in another folder.

    1. Uninstall it via the web page command or under the homebrew folder.
    2. make sure you can see hidden files. it's the top right button with 3 lines.
    3. click the home button in the file system.
    4. click the .local hidden file.
    5. click the share folder.
    6. click the steam folder.
    7. click steamui folder.
    8. click movies folder.
    9. delete deck_startup.webm, this is the reason it seems like the Uninstall failed.

From what I remember, this old system didn't really like it when it had more than 1 boot animation in the folder, so that might be your issue.
Now the solution I use now is an application called STEAM DECK REPO MANAGER.
This app can be downloaded from the application manager in desktop view and has options for you to set up animations via app.

Anyone run into issues where this shows the deck logo, then a blank screen with a mouse cursor and then the boot animations? I can't tell if I've done something wrong here. All examples shown in the video seem to boot straight into the animation and my deck just doesn't do that at all. Sometimes needing to "verify installation" first too. I'm a bit confused. I used the kage method.
I've since attempted to uninstall it and remove the folders since the OS update and the same thing still occurs.
    Anyone got some advice?

Konsole is not "the Arch Linux terminal". It's the packaged one that KDE has.

Does anyone know how to cleanly remove these themes without messing anything up? Sorry for the noob question!

Hope we see an update that includes more obscure console openings like the Neo Geo opening or one of the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive openings that we know are out there for the Kageurufu animations that are out there.

Great video. One question, how would I revert it back if I wanted to?

    • @drok17games

You would need to modify your library.css file. Usually I would just remove a character or straight up delete it. SteamOS will know something has changed and initiate an update to restore the default settings. You always download my app that has a script to do just that 😁

Did this yesterday. The steam deck just updated and now has the ability to run custom boot movies. All the movies now run in a tiny postage-stamp size, and I don't know how to reverse this. Dammnn

@@FinalNightmare1992 I just uninstalled and reinstalled the customs ones in this video. The "official" stuff isn't great, and doesn't randomise yet (I don't think)

So you could conceivably put any webm in that random boot video directory where the old school console ones are stored and it would work right?

On the one that randomized does anyone know if you can add more to the folder?

    • @cloudboysmusic5223
      @cloudboysmusic5223 2 года назад

I don't see why not. Unless its hard coded, the script should just get a list of all the videos in the directory and randomly select one.
