What a team!!!. Mamma mia...
They are playing-together and each is comping and complementing one-another...they each take an individual-solo in the middle...I knew Elvin and met him at the famed Keystone Korner owned by NYer Todd Barkan back in 1981 and hung-out with him backstage with his wife: Keiko and his son...There was an album backstage that Elvin was listening to before one of his sets and it was Jimi Hendrix "Axis: Bold as Love" and there was a guy named Richard who wrote-out and charted all of Elvin's drum-parts on one of the Coltrane compositions and Elvin called this cat with Brown-Reddish Curly-Hair named : Richard "a Doctor" and said that we are all here to help each other and that I can help them! It was great..I gave Elvin a Jack DeJohnnette Import LP: Directions in Europe" on ECM and Elvin said: "I know Jack!" It was incredible meeting one of my drummer-heroes and major-influences on my own drumming and playing...Elvin signed my copy of "Midnight Walk" and spoke of the piano-player on the lp: Dollar Brand and asked me if I had heard the album..I said that I did and I walked back to my flat on Vallejo Street up Russian Hill towards Van Ness to the other side of Van Ness and never ever forgot that incredible event...I told Elvin that night that it was an EVENT and that Elvin was the REAL EVENT! He loved that and told me that he loved me! Great times with the late drummer-master: The great one and only Elvin Ray Jones...
Wynton Kelly's solo on Le - Roi is so typical of his style .This is what makes him one of the most distinctive and immediately recognisable pianists in modern Jazz ,
Great tune....love Wynton's style. Philly and Elvin play their butts off here and sound awesome
This is just madly brilliant.
... The Jones!
I guess solo at 3:25 is Elvin, and Philly Start at 3:51
great one for jazz lovers
I just noticed, the beginning of this song is sampled by the rap group ATCQ in the track JAM.
I knew I recognised it. Great in its own right, of course.
Ah, it's actually Howard Roberts : "Dirty old Bossa Nova" - worth checking out! The riff is similar.
Un SOUND maravilloso...una SUPER-banda de SWINGsters, una bonita composicion entitulada "Le ROI": who is the composer ?!?.. 😎🎹🎼🌎🎯👀🎲
David Baker is the composer.
I just noticed the LP for this goes for 69 ¢ ! There's a bargain.
Tricky stuff.... It's only due to one safety pin holding the whole thing together... LOL.
@aneirin007 i'll add this info in the video description! thanks!
Who is it who can tell where Philly Joe Jones ends and Elvin Jones begins....or are they umbillically tied together somehow?
they are on different channels. If you pan right or left you will hear them separately.
Pure ear cocaine
