    This past Sunday I finished reading the last book of a list of "the 100 best books of all-time (someone's version). It included many prominent books you'd expect; however, a few stood out. "Infidel" by Ayaan Hirsi Ali was an incredible book that made an enormous impression on me; "War and Peace" by Tolstoy certainly lived up to the hype and "The Complete Works of Shakespeare" was both educational and entertaining and basically took me a full year to get through because I read all the supporting intros, etc.
    I am now a great lover of reading and read at least 2 pages every single day without miss and often many more pages, especially when nearing the end of a book (horses running back to the barn syndrome). So many great books out there and will never reach the bottom of the pile which I love.

    I'll love you forever was written about the loss of their child. Beautiful book but has a different emotional context knowing the history. Worth the research if you really enjoy Robert Munsch.

    This is an interesting, eclectic list.
    My only concern there is what she got from The Scarlet Letter: don’t be an adulteress. That’s so not what this nook is about. Hester Prynne got the Medusa treatment - initially, anyway. Unlike Medusa, Prynne’s community came to respect and admire her, and eventually the truth came out.

    • @canaisyoung3601

      Well, that's why she wants to reread it now that she's not in high school anymore. Watching or reading something you read/watched as a kid as an adult can be jarring.

    As a child who had "Love You Forever" read to them as a bedtime story I'm going to go ahead and STRONGLY recommend that you NOT frighten your 5 year old child with the fear of losing a parent. The mom dies in the end and its fucking terrifying for a 5 year old to just be casually told through song and/or story that your mom is going to die. yeah i spoiled the ending but, in this case, I did you a favor. You're welcome.

    • @ashlaynesaar
      @ashlaynesaar 3 года назад +4

      Honestly, if that's really your takeaway from I Love You Forever, I think you missed its point. And it's okay to talk about death and loss with kids. Sure, we never want them to hurt, but we can't protect them from it forever.

    • @Kr4th
      @Kr4th 3 года назад +2

      @@ashlaynesaar of course its okay to talk about death and loss but this book is basically like saying "I'm going to die one day. Goodnight" there isn't a discussion its just a cruel prank at best. The book is terrible. just stick with the hungry caterpillar or Harold and the purple crayon and have the death/loss conversation when you have the time to have a conversation.

      @@samuelmumm I see what you mean now. She only had the two in hand and both looked off the shelf, as you said. I found and met my biological mother back in 1996 and she sent me an inscribed copy of the first book she held up, "Love You Forever" which is a fairly old book first published back on October 1, 1986 in Canada. I doubt she was shilling for that book; however, the other book she held up from Matthew McConaughey might have been a bit more of a promotional attempt. As for the rest, I couldn't say why she didn't have them handy. Nice chatting. Have a great day/night/tomorrrow. Hope you are safe wherever go are.
      P.S. - Happened to notice that "Love You Forever" currently retails for $6.95. It is not a big book but is, in fact, a children's book.
