I adore Ginger, I have always had cats from being a baby. My first ever cats lived until they were 21 and 24, we then rehomed cats and we have just lost one of them and he was 22 leaving his older brother behind who is 24 as they were a few years old when we got them but the one left he races round like a kitten at times and is literally toothless bless him. He lives with my Mum and I have two crazy cats at home we me and my kids and they have hit 14 this year. I feel your anxiety though Olivia about ageing cats x
When I procrastinate doing my chores I tell myself I'll reward myself with reading if I finish all my responsibilities first. Everyone hates on scrolling for hours, but if that's your way of relaxing then as long as you do it after having done the most important things, maybe it's not such a bad thing :)

@@oliviareadsalatte what I do is try to only go on TikTok and Instagram and RUclips and only use the search bar to look for what I want to see. I like reading, Disney, painting and coloring etc so I only look for my interests and after doing that and getting used to not randomly scrolling, it's very relaxing to me now. Tiktok is horrible for showing you random awful things if you just scroll.

I actually grew up in the "Only Murders in the Building" in NYC in the 60's and 70's. It's really called The Belnord. 86th St. Between Amsterdam and Broadway.

It was rent-controlled back then and the tenants were suing the landlady because the building was in such disrepair. It's gorgeous now! Wish it had looked like that when I grew up.
I agree with you about editing! I’ve pretty much stopped reading books that aren’t from a mainstream publisher because I don’t have the hours in my day to donate to bad editing.

My senior kidney cat was eating the Royal Canin Selected Protein PD, she went nuts for it! They had a couple flavours but her favourite was the duck liver (smelled vile but it made her so happy). They also have a a dry food for kidney cats, but that’s prescription and probably isn’t necessary for Ginger if she’s only seeing elevated levels right now
Also, sorry to get sad but I just wanted to say while we’re talking about cats! I adopted my Bella about 2 years ago when she was 15, which was around the same time I found your channel. I always thought it was so funny how similar Ginger and Bella were, with their personalities and the noises they make and all their monthly old lady vet visits. Bella would always get really excited and start purring every time she heard Ginger’s noises from my phone. I just lost her a few weeks ago, it’s been really hard but getting to hear all the cute Ginger noises has made me feel like my Bella is with me again for just a couple minutes. So thank you for all the Ginger content, it’s been really comforting! 💕
I am so so sorry for your loss. It’s genuinely one of the hardest losses, but I’m glad that Ginger can bring some amount of comfort. 🐈 she’s so dramatic with food though, if we dare give her a flavor she doesn’t like (but hasn’t even tried), she will go on a food protest for the entire day 🤣🤦🏻♀️

My cat is about 8yo with slightly elevated kidney values. My vet told me to really focus on wet food, since cats get most of their water from their diet. At the clinic I work at we usually recommend the bigger brands like Purina, Royalcanin, and Science diet. Also, there are prescription diets for kidney issues so maybe ask your vet about those. I hope this helps! I love your videos, your voice is so relaxing.
Oh, and a furminator brush may work really well to help get those spots she can't reach.

I love ginger! ❤ I have a 17 year old senior named mosie who does have kidney disease and the best food for them is a low phosphorus high moisture diet. I would suggest trying the weruva wx. It’s his absolute favorite food and he too was a fancy feast boy prior to his ckd. I also give him an omega 3 supplement once a day which is great for older cats as it helps with joints, coat, sight and all that good stuff for the senior babies. 😁

hi! I don't have specific food recommendations because my senior kitty is on a prescription diet now, but two years ago when she started having mild kidney issues, they recommended just getting her as hydrated as possible. They had me put more water bowls around the house and change them twice a day (she also got a fountain), and to mix about a tablespoon of water in with her wet food and either stop dry food or rehydrate the dry food too. They also recommended me the Broths treats by fancy feast which she still loves.

47:52 Few weeks late here, but I know EXACTLY what you mean about cats and vets. I have a senior lady also, and she was the only one of the 3 siblings who has not had medical issues. Within the last 6 months, she's developed severe OA. So a blood panel was done to confirm she's cleared to take OA meds, and surprise surprise her results come back showing cardiac structure and function issues 😮. So, off to a cardio specialist for an echocardiogram we go.

My senior cat with kidney issues likes Hills Science Diet prescription k/d stew wet food. You might be able to mix that in with her regular and see how she does.

Two weeks late, but my senior cat with elevated kidney levels is on the Hills Prescription Kidney Care food. She’s also gets Solensia shots and looks similar/grumpy like Ginger ❤
I have the exact same problem of mindless scrolling when I really want to be reading and I'll look at the clock and realize I spent an hour on my phone instead of doing what I actually want to be doing. Honestly, don't have any good advice for how to stop doing it...if you come up with something, let me know!

You can bathe cats, just not too often but if your cat is terribly smelly or has problems that mean they cannot bathe themselves, then given them a bath is fine, you just need to ensure you use the correct cat wash and really rinse and dry off well. We don't bathe cats generally because they see to that themselves but if they are struggling then you can certainly give her a bath or a thorough wash. She's such a sweet girl and so loving.
She is the sweetest, I just want to try and make it as not stressful as possible for her. The vet recommended some wipes that can be used, so I’m trying that before we go full burrito and bath mode lol

We finished school last week but I missed it because of an accident. It sucks. I read a discovery of witches and if you read the first then jumping right to the second is not a bad idea. I lied Shadow of Night better than AdOW and much better than book three. IMO it’s the weakest book of the three. I hope you are safe after the tornados. A town over from me got hit with two last week. This spring has been crazy. Take care.

Usually one kindle, one physical and one audio! But I don't always do that, it's just at least two of those options at all times.
My cat kept getting bladder infections and my vet recommended wet food, specifically the hills science cd food and adding extra water to it to make sure they're gett8ng enough water 🐈😻🐈⬛️😺🐱
I'll have to check out that brand, but she is a wet food only girly!
Before I ended up deleting all my socials (the ultimate hack for not doom scrolling) I had my husband set the password for my app time limits and not tell me so I couldn't override it. He ended up forgetting it so there's no chance I can override screen time again :)

I would assume your cat and my dog would be fairly similar with the kidney issue. The vet told me that my almost 16-year-old dog was getting too much protein for his age. He recommended prescription science diet that has a 4.5% protein instead of the average Content for food. You may talk to your vet about altering the protein level in her food and see if that would be a good option for her

My 16 year old kitty gets the monthly Solensia shot too! 🥰 And I can relate to being extra anxious about cats because they're so stoic. Like... Just tell us when something is wrong! We want to help, but we need to knowwwwwwwww. Anyway, my senior kitty is in the early stages of kidney disease (😭). I was able to transition her to Hill's prescription diet Kidney Care with Chicken Dry Cat Food. Pre-diagnosis, she only liked the gravy-heavy wet cat foods. She ate the Hill's prescription diet vegetable and tuna stew wet cat food for a few weeks. (Warning: It is smelly, and that's coming from a human who likes to eat plain tuna in water straight from the bag, lol.) But then she vomited profusely one day, and when I tried to feed her that same wet food again she swerved away from her bowl. SO she's not eating that anymore. Now the only wet food she's eating is Royal Canin Adult Renal Support T Thin Slices in Gravy. (It still weirds me out that they don't say what kind of meat it is in the name! But the ingredients say chicken liver, pork liver, chicken byproducts, and salmon.)

My senior cat has elevated protein in his urine (also an early sign of kidney problems) so I've started giving him more of those wet treats since they don't really have calories but they make him more hydrated and he absolutely LOVES them. He is a fiend for them.

Omg yes, she LOVES those tube treats! Plus adding some water to wet food helps a ton I’ve noticed.

Purina makes these things called HydroCare Packets which is tons of liquid and not so much protein so it doesn't tax the kidneys too much. My vet recommended it for my kidney cat. He loves them.

I have an app called Forest and when I need to stop scrolling I use it. It blocks out all the apps I don’t allow and if I want to bypass it, I need to kill my forest which I really don’t like to do. So far it’s been enough to stop me!
