Hi, I grew up in Wales and my parents often took me to Barry in the mid 70’s and I remember playing on the beach in and out of some large concrete star shaped things all piled up to one side. I now believe they were leftover anti tank things from the war. Hoped to see them on this footage but alas not. Not been there for at least 45 years. Do you remember them? I know I’m not imagining them mum has some small Polaroid photos of us playing there.

@@jfro5867 They were indeed anti-boat anti-landing. Barry was bombed in the war. In sully, just east of Barry the Americans had a camp. I was born in '62 and lived in Cyprus in my early days. Barry Island for me would have been from around 1973. I can't recall these defences but I know they were there. I can't find anything about them now, just the gun defences built. Close by was St. Athan where there was a RAF base. My father was based there and met my mother who was a Barry girl. It's not far from Rhoose airport (Cardiff, Wales International now).

@@ukfreedomaudits4948 thanks for the reply. I was born in 69 so we are sort of in the same age bracket. Funny how nostalgia creeps over you isn’t it when you pass 50. I have very happy memories of Barry Island, I guess those things are long gone. I now live in North England so the chances of going there to have a walk about are nil TBH. Enjoyed the drone footage though, nice to see it and reminisce.
