You can bring the strut up to the bolt holes on top before it's attached to the knuckle so you don't have to lift the whole brake assembly with one hand while tightening the nuts on top.
Thanks. I just did this on mine today. To note, I got KYB Excel-G struts which were taller than the OEM ones, so the length of the new completed strut assembly was longer than the OEM one.
Where did you place your jack stand? do you have a pic or video on that? The hardest part of these cars is finding a safe place to jack / jack stand. I know the notches in the pinch welds work, but I can't use that for both the jack point and stand point simultaneously.
i love all the ribbing this guy got for calling a Hyundai a Honda but at least he saved some ching-ching to take his lady out for some fine dinner, great job, yeah you could've done the job differently i like to watch 5-10 videos on the same subject just to see how they do the job and take the best id3as from each one...my hats off to you SIR!!
obviously this question doesn't matter to you being 2 years old but for other people wondering if you are hitting bumps and you hear a loud metal clank or you think any small bump is feeling way to much bump (bounce) when you go over it... you could have a failing shock absorber... it wont always be both when it happens... my left side failed first on my car and it was pretty noticeable
What shocks should I buy for my 2013 Hyundai elantra, I have heard That KYB is a really good brand for the rear but I need some for the front as well... any suggestions?
You may need to replace the bushings as seen at this link www.carid.com/2012-hyundai-elantra-control-arm-bushings-hardware/ Or the lower control arm as seen at this link images.app.goo.gl/pN3rZLDLvGmnzbuV9
im sure you figured it out but for others in the future sway link bar nuts can be a pain in the ass ... some you can grab behind the nut with a 16mm or 17mm crescent wrench ... this keeps the bolt from spinning while taking off the nut... some have a alan wrench cut out in the center of the bolt for you to lock the bolt from spinning but obviously you can't use a socket than to get the nut off you have to use an open end wrench or crescent and that presents more problems considering these bolts are on with a ton of torque.
Why you change it ...what is the problem with the old one ? I have same car and there is noise from front wheels and i dont know what is the problem ..
Great video! Looking forward to replacing ours and I feel absolutely confident I'll be able to complete it with this DIY
Best video iv seen on doing struts. Thanks for making it. Saved slot of money on labor. Video was great in detail.

That's not a strut knuckle that's a sway bar link. Nice job!
Perfect 👌.. this is an exact guide to how to change a front struts for any car in general
Thanks. I just did this on mine today. To note, I got KYB Excel-G struts which were taller than the OEM ones, so the length of the new completed strut assembly was longer than the OEM one.
I've got to do my fronts with those kyb you didn't have any reassembly issues did you?
@@dirtbagthings No issues with reassembly. Using the same springs, the car's wheel gap distance stayed the same after installation.
@@place_desjardins awesome thanks I did the back with kyb and a bar and it's been a dream
Lol your supposed to connect the top 3 nuts first and then attach the two bottom bolts for reinstallation.... But thankfully you had the strength 👍🏼
You saved me a bunch of stress...will be replacing mine soon. Thanks
good diy sir! Kudos to you for changing this on a snowy day lol.
Great job
Excellent video! Well explained. Thanks so much.
You’re welcome
When installing the strut assembly back into the car, isn’t it best to support the front control arm with a floor jack for safety?
good stuff man, thanks for posting this
Great video! Thank-you!!
Thanks.

I used a floor jack, lifted one side, placed a jack stand, then did the same to the other side.
I don't trust those pinch welds at all. Maybe for jacking up the car with the hydraulic jack but I support it by the suffrage front on jack stands
Put the jack on the frame of the car

Thx bro! I’ve been hit in the head too many times so when I get to talking sometimes I mix up words like Honda and Hyundai!
Hi all. I have a 2013 Elantra with 65,000. Question please. How do I know when the struts and shocks need replacement?
obviously this question doesn't matter to you being 2 years old but for other people wondering if you are hitting bumps and you hear a loud metal clank or you think any small bump is feeling way to much bump (bounce) when you go over it... you could have a failing shock absorber... it wont always be both when it happens... my left side failed first on my car and it was pretty noticeable

That’s a good brand but I would recommend Monroe, maybe $5-10 more but better quality, but KTB will be fine.
@@23sapper Okay Thank you so much :)
What's the price on this job? Both sides?
Will a strut or stabilizer cause a rattle noise on the elantra suspension?
You may need to replace the bushings as seen at this link www.carid.com/2012-hyundai-elantra-control-arm-bushings-hardware/
Or the lower control arm as seen at this link images.app.goo.gl/pN3rZLDLvGmnzbuV9
Bushings usually get rid of rattling noise. with coil springs and struts I think it’s about $175 a set, but with just struts, like $60-70
Great explanation!
What kind of struct you bought?
Those are MONROE. I have purchased rear struts for my 2013 Hyundai Elantra Limited and love Monroe. The fronts struts are McPherson.
Last step is get an alignment done
Did you notice that on the new strut the brake hose mounting tab lip is at the bottom, whereas the stock is on top? Is that the Monroe?
Monroe, yes.
Perfect Guide !!!!
Very useful vid! Are those Monroe struts?
Yes!
Hey man, tried doing this job today and got all the way down to the sway bar link just not wanting to come out at the top. is it just stuck?
im sure you figured it out but for others in the future sway link bar nuts can be a pain in the ass ... some you can grab behind the nut with a 16mm or 17mm crescent wrench ... this keeps the bolt from spinning while taking off the nut... some have a alan wrench cut out in the center of the bolt for you to lock the bolt from spinning but obviously you can't use a socket than to get the nut off you have to use an open end wrench or crescent and that presents more problems considering these bolts are on with a ton of torque.
Using 19 mm get bolt out but it seems stuck. What do you recommend. I even use stuff that helps stuff get lose.
PB Blaster works well to loosen bolts. Sometimes I’ve had bolts so tight the it took a few hours of PB blaster soaking the bolt.
Why you change it ...what is the problem with the old one ? I have same car and there is noise from front wheels and i dont know what is the problem ..
My tires had an uneven wear which is a sign of bad struts.
Do you know if a 2012 Elantra would be any different than this?
It’s the same. Only the 2011and below have some slight differences
0:00 he looks and talks so intense 🙂🙃 R E L A X
Thanks for the compliment.
Does this change will stabilize the rear end of the car
New rear shocks should.
And those are super easy. Take two bolts out - put two bolts in. No compressing on these.
Does it matter if I have a GT? I can use the same strut as a regular Elantra correct?
They are the same.
Thank you!!
You missed the white soft rubber on the top of the strut
Thx
j'adore sa
That's a nice Honda bro? Where can I buy one of these hondas? 🤣
Hyundai does not equal Honda. Lol. Honda Elantra. Bro. Cmon
I was waiting for someone to notice
I noticed it too. just pure stupidity these kids now a days
He's too busy modeling & posing lol
HONDA ELANTRA 🤪
Awesome video. Thank You.
