I got my first Mora (the No.1) in 1962 and used it for almost 10 years before I bought another one. The only reason it was replaced was after ten years of normal sharpening it was getting a bit thin I am now on my 4th Mora and I cant say enough good things about them. I'm not worried about the partial tang....never had a prob with any of them.....and they all have gotten ALOT of heavy use. Best bang for the buck I have ever found.
Great review of the Mora Bushcraft Black, Chris. I have always kind of liked Mora knives but this one really rocks. Great price in your Amazon store too.
PREPAREDMIND101 just a friendly heads up: Depending on when u see this post, amazon's put this item on their lightning deals section. This knife's marked down price starts Nov 26th @ 8:40am (this is the time from prime users, not sure what time it starts for regular customers), not sure how much it'll be nor how many are up for grabs, but I'm totally going for it. Thanks Chris for the awesome reviews, HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!
I have had Mora Knives for as long as I can remember. Never have been disappointed. Today I only have 2 Mora Knives as well as my many other different types of knives.
You must be impressed with this knife, I do believe this is one of the longest knife reviews I have seen on your channel. Thanks for the info, I just ordered mine and it should be here in a few days.
Got 3 of them with a stone to keep sharp. Traveled around the world and always had one in the kit. Mine are carbon steel, came with a plastic sheath and cost $31 for all 3.
I have the heavy duty, thick bladed with fire stick, survival version. Its the sharpest knife I have ever owned, right out of the box. Its an awesome knife even if it'd not technically a "Full tang" knife as Americans like it. I do have other knives, but this one is a good all around, INEXPENSIVE knife. A great buy for your first purchase of a knife.
I have 2 Mora clippers (1 stainless steel and 1 Carbon Steel), a Hultafors Craftmans knife, a Gränsfors Bruks hand hatchet, a Fällniven folding knife and last but not least a Bahco Laplander folding saw. I'm keeping it very Swedish.
Ben Ghazi My pleasure, Sweden make some quality products, especially in the area of Bushcraft. All of which were exceptional value, I don't think you can't get a better knife than the Mora Clipper for the amount it cost and there is no better Bushcraft Axe than a Gransfors Bruks. Same applies for the Laplander folding saw, it's the best I have ever used. I have a few knives from my home country in England, like a Whitby and a Ray Mears bushcraft knife but we are talking double amount for the Whitby (Lesser quality) and about 200 times more the Ray Mears knife (£380, the best knife I have ever used, but the cost is extortionate). The Mora is still the knife I use while out in the field. It's not just a good knife, it's a fantastic knife..
Love the Mora Bushcraft Black! did some light batoning last year in a canoe trip in Canyonlands Utah (I know its not designed for that but wanted to test it) and it performed exceptionally well, and it was still razor sharp when I got home. Great video, big fan! keep'em coming.
I was using a Chris Cain as my belt knife until I bought the Mora BC. Black and now I finally have a Mora good enough to put on my belt. this is a great knife that you cannot hurt now matter what you do to it.. THIS KNIFE IS BULLET PROOF and well worth the cash.
Is it with three times as much as the Mora Robust? I do think I would like the handle on the black better but probably not enough to justify the price difference.
Bro, from a Colombian military dude that lives in Japan...I love your fucking channel. You know your shit; your videos are full of knowledge and to the fucking point. You inspire me to work harder at my outdoors school in Japan. I visit your channel when the studying needs to get tough and going. Thanks for your work and knowledege...the time, experience, and dedication that you invest on your videos is unprecidented. Gracias brother.
I like the BB that I have 2. One tactical version and the other like yours, with the two clips. I just bought a leather sheath for it. Now, I’m spoilt for choice. I honestly don’t mind the Morakniv sheaths either. They do the job. Scandi grinds are great for carving wood. I use my Companion HD the most.
Hey Preparedmind 101, I enjoyed the review and after watching, I clicked on your amazon link and picked up the Mora Bushcraft Black Survival package. Thanks for a good review, and im happy to support your channel mate. - Stay frost, stay safe.
Dave has a review on but its not much but he does have lots of videos where he uses it. in his knife series does a 2pt on knife handling and notching and such where its the only knife he uses
I like moras I have a full tang one and a bushcraft one different then the one in ur review.. But I think I am, going to pick one up.. i was born and raised in Ohio but this past summer I moved out to Colorado, Man your video makes me miss home ....
Years ago I bought a Skookum Bushtool. It is the best "bushcraft" knife I've ever used. That said, my Bushcraft Black is 95% of what the Skookum is and is readily available and affordable. Everything you said about this Mora is spot on. Great review on an incredible blade.
Definitely on my amazon wish list. I'm just getting back into more rustic camping skills and putting together some different kits. I've already got a Mora Classic#2 and a light my fire, but I want a bigger high carbon blade too. The pathfinder looks cool on Dave's channel, but will be $100 more...more than I want to spend at this time. I'm about ready to post a video of my setup, and I owe a big part of my new knowledge to your channel! CHEERS!
I carry the TOPS Knives Tanimboca Puukko when im in the woods. I have the Garberg but i like the tops better. I do have that bushcraft back on my list of knives to try out though.
I have other outdoors/bushcraft type knives and I have to admit that my Mora is still one of my favorite. It's tough, easy sharpen, holds a decent edge, and overall great bang for the buck. I like the weight and ergo, and even the plastic sheath is functional. Great review. Highly recommended knife. Thumbs up!
Good job, Chris--didn't know you were so "bushcrafty"! :) Good vid. So good, I went out & bought a Mora Robust---and then bought several more for gifts. Fantastic knife.
I own several Moras and I have never had any issues that he described with the clip carry option. I think it is better than just a belt carry option. But buy one and see for yourself.
Knowing how you like you blades looking, I'd recommend you do te following: re grind the scandi, and remove the little micro bevel. This will make it crazy sharp and also bring out the steel through the DLC coating. You end up with a cool two tone effect. I have a long term use video on my channel with my Mora Black in that setup.
Maybe I'll have Bryce do that. He's my blade technician when it comes to precise stuff like that. Right now it does have a secondary bevel because I ended up giving it a couple swipes through the work sharp.
cool! I just bought a bunch more of the black 510's $12.00 a piece. they had those 511's for 8 bucks ea. you can never have enough mora's. I prefer the scandi grind, simple!
I have one also... I agree with you.. best budget bushcraft blade ever.. certainly good enough for just about everyone... I use it in my backpacking gear..
That knife is just amazing! Makes me wanna sell all other knives that I have haha. I have the stainless steel version(orange version) with the survival sheath(with ferro rod and sharpener)
I know it’s a old video,,, But Welcome to the Morakniv Family,,,,,!!!!! I’ve got several wooden handled carving knives. The Pathfinder (in a New Kydex Sheath), The Bushcraft Black and The , full tang, Garberg. I wouldn’t trade any of them,,,!!!!! Joshua
I bought this knife for my 8 year old son to introduce him to bushcraft. I have never seen that knife fail at doing a task. My son has done light baton work with it to make kindling to start the fire, he has sharpened sticks for tent pegs, snare triggers, ect. and other light work around the camp. Best of all, I don't worry much about the knife breaking because it is cheap to replace. For now though, until my son learns how to properly maintain his tools and perform some more complex tasks, the Mora will be a good knife for him to learn with. I recomend the Mora for people who need a decent blade for bushcraft but are on a budget, as the knife only costs $35-$45. If you are looking for a hunting knife, then the Mora is going to be perfect for anything you would need to do. I personally carry an Ontario SK-5 Blackbird. It is also a good knife. It is simple and rugged, has a nice micarta grip, its full tang, its easy to sharpen, it keeps an edge quite well, it will baton through anything within reason, it is small enough to make good feather sticks, and it is priced in the $100-$135 area. I know I can trust the Ontario knife with my life. I recomend the Ontario knife to someone who has enough experience in bushcrafting to know what they are doing and is looking for an upgrade to their cheap knives. If you need something durable and reliable, then the Ontario is the way to go. :)
so why no a Morakniv Companion Heavy Duty Knife with Carbon Steel for 18 bucks? Or the stainless for 15 or 16 bucks? I wish I could afford the black.. and is stainless better than carbon when messing up your knife on a ferrorod?
The price difference is caused by thicker blade stock that happens to be fully finished with a 90 degree spine, a MUCH larger tang than standard Moras, a blade that is further embedded in the knife for yet more strength, and the black coating. There are a few other differences that I haven't noticed yet but it won't be much longer before i do. EDIT: I would love to see this blade in their laminated steel.
Considering here in Canada there's about a 20-25$ dollar price difference between the bk7 and the mora black. If you had no knife, witch would you get?
Just ordered one from southblade. About this micro, any recommendations about how to remove it. Should I take it to someone who has a belt or can I hit it with the diamond sharpener.
Chris I saw that they came out with a stainless steel version with a orange handle. I like the orange handle but want to know what you think about the stainless steel blade?
Hi Chris, looks like we like the exact same knives. I own only two fixed blades, the Tops BOB and the Mora Black. I`ve never considered getting a Becker (too big and unwieldy, crappy sheaths) but now i`m starting to think i have to take your word for it and get me a BK9 even though i most certainly don`t need one :-) Great vid as always.
I noticed that the Heavy Duty Mora Knife is basically the same thing than this one. The only differences between them is the rounded off spine and the handle. This one just doubles the cost.

not long had mine and I have to say , none of these videos prepare you for the moment that you first hold this knife it just automatically fits , your hand all mora knives are great . from UK.
Amazon has it right now on Prime for $50.99 but the promo takes $10 off at check out! Mine is on the way fro $40.99 (BTW that's for the one with the ferro rod)
Even though Mora Knives main applications are for outdoor use(camping, hiking, hunting, bugout, survival) would anyone recommend that it could be a good self defense knife as well?
I like the bushcraft black, BUT i would really like to see SOMEBODY like you maybe do a side by side comparison of the black and the robust and justify the pice jump. Maybe you could add that to your to do list. Did like the video thou.
White Kitta Staglon handles are plastic handles made to look similar to authentic stag handles! My advice, save your money when it comes to Staglon, not worth it!
You seemed in the oddest mood the day you filmed this vid. By the end I just wanted to give you a big hug. You are definitely my go to guy when it comes to knives.
I know this is an ancient thread (still has his old intro!) but for those of you still waffling on this excellent knife, Amazon just put it on sale for $35. Looks like it might be today only. Go through Chris's Amazon page.
I got my first Mora (the No.1) in 1962 and used it for almost 10 years before I bought another one. The only reason it was replaced was after ten years of normal sharpening it was getting a bit thin I am now on my 4th Mora and I cant say enough good things about them. I soaked my Mora carbon steel in white vinegar, it turned out an even dull grey (bluing) that made it semi rust resistant
Great review of the Mora Bushcraft Black, Chris. I have always kind of liked Mora knives but this one really rocks. Great price in your Amazon store too.
PREPAREDMIND101 just a friendly heads up:

Great affordable knife!
Yeah is also worth the price btw it's friggin sharp!!!
You must be impressed with this knife, I do believe this is one of the longest knife reviews I have seen on your channel. Thanks for the info, I just ordered mine and it should be here in a few days.
I might get this knife, I got myself a SCHF 16 neck knife after your review and I love it. The ergos are great and the steel is not bad at all.
Got 3 of them with a stone to keep sharp. Traveled around the world and always had one in the kit. Mine are carbon steel, came with a plastic sheath and cost $31 for all 3.
All three total ?!
Yup. Went to several gun shows. All you want for 10-$11 each@@WizzdummHeadley

A Mora and a Hatchet is all you need. Thanks for sharing.
05Rudey A Mora and a Gränsfors Bruks. Keep it all Swedish, and world class ofc ;)
Ben Ghazi
I do use a Gränsfors Bruks ;)
I have 2 Mora clippers (1 stainless steel and 1 Carbon Steel), a Hultafors Craftmans knife, a Gränsfors Bruks hand hatchet, a Fällniven folding knife and last but not least a Bahco Laplander folding saw.
I'm keeping it very Swedish.
Thats not bad! Thanks for contributing to "our" economy ;)
Ben Ghazi

For the live fire, just back their Kickstarter and you will get some sent out.

A great Bushcraft blade for sure. I think I would agree that it is the best current production model out there right now! Good Stuff!
Always liked Mora products since I was a kid

I bought this knife a few weeks ago. It is a great knife for your pack. I am glad that you finally found a Mora knife that you like!
4000+ views and no thumbs down? That is kind of freaking me out. Looking over my shoulder...
Balanced it with a thumbs up! Peace!
Is it with three times as much as the Mora Robust? I do think I would like the handle on the black better but probably not enough to justify the price difference.
Love this knife! Can't wait to see your review on its big brother the Pathfinder. :D
Always liked Mora knives but looks like its time to get a new one! Great review.
Well is does have 12 now, but they must be 12 BG knife fans... I love my Mora knives...

My best!! I love the black and the orange!
Hey Preparedmind 101, I enjoyed the review and after watching, I clicked on your amazon link and picked up the Mora Bushcraft Black Survival package. Thanks for a good review, and im happy to support your channel mate. - Stay frost, stay safe.
Looks like rugged simplicity...always a winner in my book.

I bought one from Dave Cateberry’s store too... The one with the fire steel. I really like it a lot
Those fiskars hatchets are crazy good!
You're right. it is a great knife...I dropped mine on the viranda. .the blade chipped. ..I fixed it but wow. ..cement drops and knives don't mix. ...
Cheap and good quality. Fantastic for chores and slice n dice for family BBQs. Good knives. They'll keep you alive
Thumbs up!
Dave already put up a video of the pathfinder mora. He batoned a 4 inch seasoned hardwood log. Mora Bushcraft Pathfinder
Good job, Chris--didn't know you were so "bushcrafty"! :) Good vid. So good, I went out & bought a Mora Robust---and then bought several more for gifts. Fantastic knife.

You sold me on this. Bought tonight in the green. Thanks Chris.
Would you recommend using this knife for batoning or is the rat tang quite weak
That knife is just amazing! Makes me wanna sell all other knives that I have haha.
I have the stainless steel version(orange version) with the survival sheath(with ferro rod and sharpener)
I love your honest reviews ! I order it and its a damn good knife. Thanks a lot.
Danke! Für dieses geduldige Video bin begeistert von dem Mora Knife ein tolles Messer!.
Joshua

Great video. Nice to see someone being honest about a knife that is
Its a good knife. I like th hanble style. If it was ft wth a woog scales it would be great.
so why no a Morakniv Companion Heavy Duty Knife with Carbon Steel for 18 bucks? Or the stainless for 15 or 16 bucks? I wish I could afford the black.. and is stainless better than carbon when messing up your knife on a ferrorod?
What is your thought about this knife compare to the cold steel srk knife?
Chris is it good for some battoning
The orange stainless steel version in on sale for $25 on amazon right now
What is your thoughts and views on cutco knives...? I just received a cutco hunting knife as a gift...any feedback will be appreciated thanks...
is it the same knife with bushcraft survival black but fire steel not included and diferent sheath?
The price difference is caused by thicker blade stock that happens to be fully finished with a 90 degree spine, a MUCH larger tang than standard Moras, a blade that is further embedded in the knife for yet more strength, and the black coating. There are a few other differences that I haven't noticed yet but it won't be much longer before i do.
EDIT: I would love to see this blade in their laminated steel.
I just picked one of these up from Brad as well. I heard about their store from your channel. Those guys are great.
The Robust and even moreso the Bushcraft Black are well worth the very reasonable price.
need to do a review on the Garberg, which is Moras first full tang knife.
If you bevel the top of tent pegs it will stop it from flaring out when you hit it
Considering here in Canada there's about a 20-25$ dollar price difference between the bk7 and the mora black. If you had no knife, witch would you get?
If you have something larger like an axe the Mora is fine. I haven't been using my BK7 much since I was lured away by the TOPS BOB.
First Post ever on a youtube video, Keep up the great work. I will be visiting your amazon store.
Great knife Chris! I too like my Becker knives bk2 bk9 bk7 all good knives. There is such a thing as too much knife. Moras are perfect
Hi Chris, looks like we like the exact same knives. I own only two fixed blades, the Tops BOB and the Mora Black. I`ve never considered getting a Becker (too big and unwieldy, crappy sheaths) but now i`m starting to think i have to take your word for it and get me a BK9 even though i most certainly don`t need one :-)
Great vid as always.
Great review, now I have to drive on down to Blade HQ this weekend and pick one up!
Why is this mora not listed in the Jessica list???
and I love the high speed batoning wish I could do that out in the field
I noticed that the Heavy Duty Mora Knife is basically the same thing than this one. The only differences between them is the rounded off spine and the handle. This one just doubles the cost.
Ladies and Gentlemen.. Welcome to the MASTER OF THE OBVIOUS channel..
Sigh..
not a big fan of the pathfinder school but this regular one looks good i also am interested in the scout mora
Yeah. Duh!!! I've had mine for months now and I love it. What took you so long man!?!?
I really like your videos, they are great! I would like to know the big differences between the bushcraft black and the mora light my fire.
Bought a bushcraft black a few weeks ago and it’s uneven on the left side of the spine and blade. Won’t strike a rod on the left side. Did you alter yours from the factory specs? I also have a mora kansbol and it does not have those issues.
Dave Canterbury's main complaint with this knife is that it didn't have the Pathfinder logo on it.
Dave is a stupid idiot
He wants to sell as many as he can. Thats why he recommends it to his students. He helped design it.
Haha. That's not quite true. Dave has an odd personality but he knows his stuff. He would bushcraft/survive circles around this preparedmind fella and I think this guy knows that.
There is a big difference between a knife collector and a bushcraft/survival expert.
Does Dave still sell the bushcraft mora?
Is there is difference between the black or orange knife? Amazon sells the orange a lot cheaper.
Darren Keaton I am wondering that myself
I finally got my first knive chris.I got the schrade schf10 now I need my fire starter and a sheath 😊
You can baton with a SAK if you're careful enough.
I love my bushcraft black. great review.
How often do you have sharpen this knife, if you are using it on a daily basis?
Any rough recommendation?
Is this full tang?
1st of all do some research. its not full tang. secondly the edge retention is dependant on what wood/material u use it on aka soft pine vs ironwood
when it gets dull
at 1:12 you gave out a classic tim conway, ow boy. lol...
Who's Will? What's his channel? Thank you.
Do the Mora 748 MG.
not long had mine and I have to say , none of these videos prepare you for the moment that you first hold this knife it just automatically fits , your hand all mora knives are great . from UK.
Excellent in-depth review,thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes I would but the blade is quite short. Also if you are in a situation like that I would keep a knife in my drawer.
Awww okay thanks a lot! I was thinking about getting one for mainly home defense.
It's also friggin sharp
I can tell by the looks of it, A+ for me :)
No doubt
I like the bushcraft black, BUT i would really like to see SOMEBODY like you maybe do a side by side comparison of the black and the robust and justify the pice jump. Maybe you could add that to your to do list. Did like the video thou.
I personally like the mora robust better. Imo
Very nice Blade...I love this kind of Sheath.
Knife question... What is a Staglon Handle? or what is the Staglon material made of?
White Kitta Staglon handles are plastic handles made to look similar to authentic stag handles! My advice, save your money when it comes to Staglon, not worth it!
very nice MORA
Is this made out of 1095 Carbon Steel?
Good looking knife.
You seemed in the oddest mood the day you filmed this vid. By the end I just wanted to give you a big hug. You are definitely my go to guy when it comes to knives.
Anyone knows what exactly type of carbon steel it is? 1095, 1075 or...?
Moras will always be there for the beginner bushcrafter.
still use mine and I`m not a beginner, Cant afford American stuff but then I do live in knife hating England.
And whats for professionals? Super expensive super steels.. hard to sharpen
I know this is an ancient thread (still has his old intro!) but for those of you still waffling on this excellent knife, Amazon just put it on sale for $35. Looks like it might be today only. Go through Chris's Amazon page.
Its a good knife, I use it a lot...
awesome vid Chris!
would love to you put that Dundee Bowie through its paces!!!
