- Big Al's Oyster Bar was recently renovated at The Orleans Las Vegas and though I've never tried it prior to its renovations, I'm certainly looking forward to trying it out now. This is my first video from The Orleans property here in Las Vegas and I'm really excited to eat because
Every restaurant is a buffet if you're willing to pay
Thanks for watching!

I think you do a great job describing the food in such a way that a listener can understand just what it tastes like. I don’t think anyone listening to a food review could ask for more than that. Thanks for your videos!
Shin is one of the best on YT without question. Very sophisticated palate.
Appreciate that! I'm happy you like my style. Thanks for watching!
Agree. I suspect Shin is a decent cook as well.
“oh yea that’s very good”
As soon as I saw the bacon wrapped over shrimp I knew it wasn't going to be a good combo. Bacon is far too overwhelming for partnering with shrimp.
Another great job, Vegas-Shin!
Yeah, it was far too overpowering. It was unfortunate. Thanks for watching!
We all work hard for our money so your honesty is so appreciated. Thank you Shin!
You got it! I'm happy to help. Thanks for watching!
Hi nShin, those water crackers and that bread they gave you at the start would have went well with an order of chowder as I am sure they were intended. Not just to be eaten plain as you did. Of course you do what you want though as you are the one paying for the meal. That gumbo looked great!
A chowder would have been good with that bread for sure. It was just the timing of it all. Thanks for watching!
This may be the first Shin restaurant review where not a single flavor was ''robust'',...but at least the yellow rice had a ''savory salinity'' .
I can't say I've been keeping track so I'll take your word for it! Thanks for watching!
Love the chowders at Big Al’s. I’m also a fan of the Pan Roasts. Wish I could get those where I live. 😕
I've seen in the comments that the chowder is a winner here. I should have tried some. Thanks for watching!
All of the things I probably would have ordered were misses or fell short outside of the hush puppies.
If you are going to offer all the Seafood Options then put the Seafood in it, i.e Lobster Roll, Lobster Mac and Cheese. I didn’t catch the prices of those options, but I’m sure they priced competitively.
Thank you Shin, for always being honest with these reviews. I certainly appreciate your feedback! Have a great weekend! ❤
I was very happy with the hush puppies, they were very good. Lobster roll definitely needs some help. Thanks for watching!
After seeing your food I'd say that place is definitely a no go for me. Thx for another great video.
Happy to save you the trip! Thanks for watching!
I Just found your videos yesterday. I love how raw and real you are on your reviews, and you personality is so fun. Thank you for your content!!!
Welcome to the channel! I'm happy you're enjoying the videos. Thanks for watching!
VWS: Good Saturday afternoon to you. Al's food items dis have some stand outs but some were outright robbery. The Crab 🦀 cakes were more filler than Crab ( orange stuff was remoulade). The Gumbo looked tasty and tasso ham always adds depth ( gumbo is a stew and is made with a stock ( chicken or seafood broth) and roux which adds the deep flavors of any gumbo). The Pan Roast more than likely was really an étouffée with a blonde roux. It looked delicious. The muffuletta was invented at Central Grocery in New Orleans to feed the growing population of Italian immigrants ( I can attest that the real muffuletta is fantastic). Btw I wouldn't say. AL'S is a good representation of New Orleans food culture, hopefully you will visit the city someday. See you Tuesday, Shin. Peace ✌️ ☮️
Thanks for the info Al! Good stuff here. My knowledge of southern cuisine is definitely limited so I appreciate it. Thanks for watching and see you on Tuesday!
Dishes looked good. Myself, I would have dined on the raw bar. Always appreciated. Stay hungry for us!
In retrospect, I should have tried some of the raw stuff as well. Next time. Thanks for watching!
My go to meal at Big Al's is a bowl of Seafood Chowder, hush puppies and an iced tea 😋. They never fail me. Thanks for the review Shin, Happy Saturday!
Very nice! I should have tried one of their chowders. Big fan of the hush puppies. Thanks for watching and happy Saturday to you Steph!
I still just LOVE your videos Shin! Your positive demeanor and smile are the best on RUclips… so genuine. 😊
Thank you very much! Your encouragement is really appreciated. Thank you!
The original--and definitive--Muffaletta is made by Central Grocery in New Orleans. The original location is unfortunately still closed for repairs, but they do have the sandwich for sale in other locations. It is probably the best sandwich I've ever had, definitely best made fresh at the original store, and no other version I've tried comes anywhere close.
This is great info to know! I'll have to keep that in mind if I ever make my way down to New Orleans. Thanks for watching!
Franks right next door to central grocery also claims to be the original I’ve had them both but it’s been about 8 years so don’t completely remember the differences
Hi Shin. For an oyster bar they sure didn't have a very good selection of oysters! 😮 Wish you had tried those bbq oysters tho. Ummm ❤
Yeah, in retrospect, I probably should have order some kind of oyster dish lol. I was mostly going off my server recommendations for this one. Thanks for watching!
We were at Big Al's last week. The Boston clam chowder is the bomb!!
Very nice! I probably should have tried one of their chowders. Thanks for watching!
I love the Orleans🎉🩷 I haven't been there in a looong time, as I live here! I gotta try this place😋
Yes! I like the Orleans too. Lots of character there. Thanks for watching!
Great video ! Love all of your food recommendations and honest reviews ! And you have great hair on a side note 👍🏻👍🏻
Much appreciated! I'm glad you're enjoying the videos. Thanks for watching!
Your food reviews are always on point thank you!
I'm glad you think so! Thanks for watching!
I'm a big fan of their chowder, but never try the rest of the menu, so thank you for checking this place out. Next time I return, I'll want to try their pan roast and hush puppies. On the muffaleta, I think some places dig out part of the bread and fill it with the olive spread to reduce some of the breadiness. Too bad they didn't do that here.
Wow. I think the muffuletta would have been so much better if they did that. Some good food here otherwise though. Thanks for watching!
I am a huge fan of seafood and that place looks amazing! Also the prices seem reasonable. It’s going on my list of places to try when in Vegas. So close to 20k subs!🎉🎉
Yes! While I can objectively say the offerings at the Station Casino Oyster Bars are better, I went to Al's with no reservation and only waited 15 minutes compared to a 2-4 hour wait at the Station properties. I hope you enjoy when you give it a try. And yes, looks like 20k is going to happen this week. Very exciting! Thanks for watching Diane!
Congratulations on 20k subscribers! The question is, your response to most of the food with "that's not bad" and a few "thats tasty" worth the effort to eat there.
Thank you, not quite there yet but I think it's happening this week. Honestly, a pan roast at Palace Station's Oyster Bar is objectively better. But is it worth a 2-4 hour wait? Not for me. I went here with no reservation at peak dinner time and probably waited 15 minutes.
Eha ! My go to at the Orleans is Alder n Birch . Fantastic surf n turf ,french onion soup and the crab bisque. Asparagus and the bleu cheese gratin!!! Yum ... for a fraction of the price on the strip!! Thanx for the review. I'll check this out come August ...❤
I will check out Alder n Birch eventually! All the restaurants at the mega resorts will find their way onto the channel. I'll be sure to try the surf n turf when I go. I hope you have a great trip this August! Thanks for watching!
@@VegaswithShin it's a hidden gem . Never disappointed and its right by the blackjack table's. Lol
Shin ! Thanks so much for the review !! We can see they did a great job with the remodel ! Will be going back to try again thanks to your very descriptive review !! Food looks great !! Thank You !!
I'm glad you enjoyed! I thought their remodel was great as well! Thanks for watching!
Happy Saturday Shin😊
Happy Saturday to you Christine!
Love all the detailed descriptions of all the food. Very helpful as a viewer to determine if that's a restaurant worth visiting. Lobster roll looks a bit disappointing
I'm glad you like my style. Thanks for watching!
I took your advice and tried the Chef Special Pan Roast. Delicious. We also tried the steamed clams. Also delicious. Thank you again. Have a great day.
Yes! I'm glad you enjoyed. Thank you for watching!
I usually just get the a bowl of Chowder for Lunch at Big Al's but it was nice to see you review some of the other dishes.
In retrospect, I should have tried one of the chowders, I hear they were great. Thanks for watching!
You need to come to New Brunswick, Canada for a proper lobster roll! Check out Spinney’s in St. Martins
I'll be sure to keep that in mind for the next time I'm in Canada. Thanks for watching!
The two dishes were Lobster flavored Mac & Cheese and Lobster Noodle & Cheese. The bacon wrapped shrimp and crabmeat was Seafood flavored Bacon wrap. At least, you chose some very good dishes.
I mostly went with my server's recommendations on this one. I thought it was a good mix. Thanks for watching!
Thank you Shin!
It seemed like good food at a very fair price!
I think the Orleans has some more reasonable prices compared to the rest of the strip for sure. Thanks for watching!
Good video shin thanks you 👍
Glad you enjoyed! Thanks for watching!
I love this place!!! You should have tasted their seafood chowder. That is my favorite!!!!
I'll have to try it the next time I visit! Thanks for watching!
Thanks Shin ! Another awesome video ! You made all the food look pretty good . Maybe cause I’m a little hungry sitting on the patio in Cancun where the food is well …. Thanks again Sir !
Very nice! I hope you're enjoying your time out on the beach. I'll catch you in the next one. Thanks Kyle!
Hello cute stuff! Love your reviews. Thankyou.
Glad you enjoyed! Thanks for watching!
Pretty sure the “saltine cracker” bread is for the chowder/cioppino.
It would definitely be welcome in those dishes, but I think you'll get them regardless of what you order. Thanks for watching!
Great review...a lot of misses for me here 😢...the hush puppies is my fav...the lobster roll needed help, so did the lobster mac n cheese 🤔...but all in all, glad you enjoyed your dinner...have a great weekend, til Tues 😘🤗❤
Lobster roll definitely needed some help lol. Thanks for watching Jade! See you on Tuesday.
Thank you for all that you do for us Shin! I love your detailed explanations of all the dishes that you try. It makes me feel as if I'm right there!
I'm happy to do it Ruth! I'm glad you enjoy the videos. Thanks for watching!
Hi Shin, Since this place has "oyster house" in its name, what about the oysters? April still has an "r" so they should still be in season I guess. I could just taste those hush puppies by the way you described them. Really enjoyed this review.
I was mostly going off of my server recommendations for this one and I wasn't giving it that much thought but in retrospect, I should have gotten an order of oysters. Thanks for watching!
That was a good review always, THANKS.
Glad you enjoyed! Thanks for watching!
interesting place, would try the hush puppies and jambalaya-does that place serve pop ?-not really a wine or beer drinker-my nephew would love the oysters-keep up the great work
They did have pop. I had a refillable Diet Pepsi when I was there but I guess they didn't charge me for it? I'm too lazy to go back and rewatch in the video if they put it on there lol. Thanks for watching!
@@VegaswithShin thanks for the reply saw the menu and maybe took a quick look and did not see pop-thanks for confirming
Hey Shin! Another great video 👏🏼 For some odd reason, RUclips wouldn’t allow me to watch your video with my ‘restricted view’ on… just thought you’d want to know! I had to turn it off to watch your video and there’s nothing inappropriate about it 🤷🏽♀️
That's interesting... I'll have to look into that. Maybe the lack of lack of lobster in the lobster roll needed viewer discretion lol. I'm curious if it happens for any other videos or just this one. Thank you for letting me know!
@@VegaswithShin 😂 that might be it
Thank you for a great review. This has helped me with my decision on what to order on my next visit. I was going to try the lobster roll in hopes that it would be as good as the one they serve at Bailiwick on the Orleans. I think the pan roast will be my choice.
The lobster roll can definitely use some work. Pan roast was good though! Thanks for watching!
I haven't been to the Orleans for a while now. The food looks pretty good but I might go with the Station Casino's Oyster Bar for the pan roast
The food was solid for the most part. The pan roast at Palace Station is objectively better but I'm not trying to wait 2-4 hours to eat it. Thanks for watching Jerry!
Hi Shin I don't get to Vegas often but I really enjoy your reviews!
I appreciate that! Thank you!
Hi Shin. Looks like a great one to try. Thanks for the tour of the menu and what to expect and not order. YUM. Karla in Cali.
You got it! I'm happy to provide the info I can. Thanks for watching Karla!
Thank you Shin for your great reviews. I feel so confident trying new places having seen your videos. I always walk in almost knowing what to order and what to avoid. Cheers!
I'm happy to help! Thanks for watching!
I was not fan of this restaurant, another channel I watch they like chowders and pan roasts, not a fan. Thanks Shin, for expanding this menu for us, I will definitely visit when I visit Vegas.
I should have tried the chowder based on the comments, but I was mostly going off of our server's recommendations for this one. The pan roast I thought was fine, but the one at Palace Station is objectively better. It's just I don't like 2-4 hours in line for a meal lol. Thanks for watching!
Sounds a little disappointing. I want to go to an oyster bar in Vegas but some, like Palace Station, have long lines and hours long waits. Heard Big Al’s was more accessible but doesn’t sound as good. Might try the new one at Durango.
That's basically the issue. I can objectively say that Palace Station's pan roast is better, but 2-4 hour waits at almost any time of day is just not for me. I've had 15 minute waits at Durango before, but also waited 2+ hours before as well. Thanks for wtaching!
I think they use Hubig's apple hand pies which are a product from New Orleans.
Thanks for the info! I had to look it up and now I know! Thanks for watching!
Nice review. Looked like they missed out alot on the lobster. Great info. Thanks and take care.
Yeah, the lobster roll especially could use a little bit of additional love. Thanks for watching Karen!
I Love hushpuppies...I think that is what I will order tonight!! That lobster roll looked like a bit of a rip off. :(:( Thank you for another great video!
The hush puppies were really good here. I liked them a lot. Lobster roll definitely needed work. Thanks for watching GL!
all looks good how does it compare to the oyster bar at palace station ty for sharing
Palace Station's is objectively better but the wait is far too long. Thanks for watching Claire!
There should be an Oyster Bar at Every Casino In Vegas modelled after the one at Palace Station considering how popular that one is. I mean can you even get a Pan Roast anywhere in MGM casinos?
That's a good question...nothing is coming to mind when it comes to a pan roast at the MGM casinos. Thanks for watching!
👍🤠
Thanks for watching Vickie!
We tried Big Al's and was expecting Oyster Bar level flavors, but we were disappointed. Not the same. If you want good Pan Roast stick it Oyster Bars at Station Casinos.
I had the pan roast at Durango not long ago and while the Station recipes are objectively better, I would not say it's head and shoulders better to the point where the line wait is worth it if you can get something of Big Al's quality with no wait. That's just me though. Thanks for watching!
Would you consider trying a rating system? That could help us prioritize certain dishes.
I've thought about it but I'm against it. There's too many factors involved and the last thing I want is to respond to comments how "this food was a 7 in a previous video but in this video etc etc." Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the review! Can you please recommend a restaurant for lobster rolls? Thank you!
PS. I had a fantastic, corned beef on a challah roll sandwich at The Bagel Cafe, 301 North Buffalo Drive.
My favorite lobster between bread was at the Brewdog on Las Vegas BLVD. It's not your traditional lobster roll but it's a lobster chip butty. It comes with this sauce that is incredible. I highly recommend trying it if you're a fan of the flavor of lobster. For your more traditional lobster roll, I've enjoyed both the ones at Luke's Lobster and Lobster n Me though it's been a very long time since I've eaten at either. I'll have to revisit them sometime. Thanks for watching!
Turmeric spice makes rice yellow and adds a peppery flavor.
Yes it does! Good call out. Thanks for watching!
I think gumbo is an acquired taste? I haven’t tried it enough to appreciate it.
In some sense, almost everything is an acquired taste right? Thanks for watching Lucia!
Hey Shin! Happy Saturday! Thanks for the review. I'll check it out on my next trip. Do you if there is a good time to go? I've heard the wait can be long. 🤗🎰
Though the restaurant was busy the majority of the time I was there, it did not look like it had a crazy long line. I think you're thinking about the Oyster Bars at the Station casinos, which can have incredibly long queues. If you're aiming for one of those, any kind of off hours like in the mid afternoon or dead of night are the best times to try. Thanks for watching!
Seafood Jackpot + BEER!!
✌✌
Nothing wrong with those! Thanks for watching!
Since the prices for a full meal rival those at the Cosmopolitans, Wynns, and Bacchanal's buffets, wouldn't those choices be better because of the variety and quality of their offerings?
Hard to make a blanket statement that it's better. I would personally go to a buffet over many restaurants in Vegas, but if you're in the mood for Creole cuisine, then your options at buffets are pretty limited. Whatever floats your boat I'd say. Thanks for watching!
I went to Big Al's the last time I was in Vegas. Had the runs for two days after. Never again...
That sucks. Hopefully you at least lost some free vacation weight then. Thanks for watching!
Love that place!
Me too! It was great! Thanks for watching!
those hush puppies looked delish
They were really good! Thanks for watching panjo!
Legit oyster bar sushi place is very good as well!
I'll have to give it a try sometime! Thanks for watching!
Never been to Big Al’s! Always end up at Madori! Enjoy the Chinese food 🤗💕😬
I will try Madori eventually as well! Thanks for watching!
I used to love Big Al's Shin....Where are the oysters Shin?
In retrospect, I should have gotten a round of oysters and tried one of their chowders. I was mostly going off of server recommendations for this one and didn't think it through as much because it was all seafood in my mind lol. Thanks for watching!
Shin
Do a review of Cafe Martorano at the Paris Hotel
If it's on the strip, it'll be on the channel eventually. I plan to have the full collection. Thanks for watching!
Yqw, you got it buddy 👍🤗
First off those crab cakes and the lobster roll were sad... geez you can't call it a lobster roll when you can't identify the lobster. Lobster rolls should be gushing with lobster and the slaw should just be for crunch. Probably stick with the gumbo and pan roast, and a pile of rice to sauce up. Btw, that looked like a hostess apple pie... haha
Yeah, the lobster roll could definitely use some work. And yes, that's exactly what I thought of the apple pie lol. Thanks for watching1
Yeah!!!
Yes! Thanks mafatone!
did the muffaletta only come with 1/4th of a sandwich or did you cut it down for the screenshot?
What you saw was everything that came in the order. Thanks for watching!
So, how does this compare with Palace Station's Oyster Bar?
Palace Station's pan roast is objectively better but I don't think it's 2-4 hour wait better. Thanks for watching!
How were the oysters? 😅 I haven't been brave enough to try one myself, so I can't pull on your leg too hard about it 😂
Lol, in retrospect, I probably should have gotten an order but I was mostly going along with my server's recommendations this evening. Thanks for watching!
How does the Pan Roast and Gumbo here compare to the Palace Station PR and Gumbo?
I haven't had the gumbo at Palace Station but the pan roast at the Station casinos are objectively better. However, I would not say that they're 2-4 hour long waits better. The pan roast at Big Al's was solid. Thanks for watching!
@@VegaswithShin Yes. I hate the lines at PS. I have found Thursday and Friday between 8-930A is the best time to go for approximately 30-45 min wait. Might attempt for a PS Pan Roast next Thursday morning if you're game
@theplurnalist I got a day job so weekday mornings are newr impossible for me lol. Thanks though!
@@VegaswithShin I thought Shin ate full time! I stand corrected
Love oysters
Yes same! Great oysters are fantastic! Mediocre oysters can definitely feel very meh though. Thanks for watching!
thanks for the video Shin, they should be ashamed for selling that thing they call apple pie....I'll pass on this place.
Someone told me in the comments that while it looked like one of those Hostess pies, it's a similar one with its roots in New Orleans. So now I'm conflicted lol. I need to go to New Orleans one day to verify both the muffuletta sandwich and this pie thing. Thanks for watching!
Whoever you are, if you're watching this, you have Good taste in vlogs.
I appreciate that! Thank you very much!
LITTLE DEBBIE HAS AN APPLE PIE SNACK 4 YOU! LOL
LOL! That was exactly what I was thinking. Thanks for watching!
I think I'll stick to The palace station oyster bar
Good call! Just be ready for the long waits. Thanks for watching!
That is not a true Muffuleta Sandwich. It should have a chopped Olive Salad with olives, roasted red peppers, celery, parsley, capers, etc dressed with olive oil and vinegar applied to the both sides of the Italian bread and the whole sandwich pressed with weight to let the bread absorb the flavors and the moisture of the salad. The sandwich should be rested let the flavor mix, a least an hour, but overnight makes it phenomenal. Only Italian and Greek delicatessens do it correctly and not all of them do.
Thanks for the thorough review.
Ah. That does not sound like what I had. I'll have to try a true muffaleta eventually. Thanks for watching!
Seems like the food quality can be shown by the empty restaurant.
I purposefully try not to get too many people in my b roll shots if I can. The restaurant was pretty busy throughout my filming though. Thanks for watching!
17:54 Had a lot of Muffaletta sandwiches over the years and this Muffaletta sandwich didn't look like it was made properly.
This was my first muffaletta sandwich so I have no basis to compare from, but I trust those who know. Thanks for watching!
Shin Try Some Indian Food 🍲🍲🍲 🙏🙏 ...
I do have a few locations on the spreadsheet from viewer recommendations, but is there a particular location in Las Vegas you would like to see? Usually when I see some repeat suggestions is when I go but the Indian suggestions have been a bit fewer and further between. Thanks!
This is no comparison to the quality of Swan Oyster Depot in San Francisco.
I've never been! I'll have to check them out one day. I have family near the bay that I haven't visited in forever and I probably should drop by to make a visit at some point. I'll keep swan Oyster Depot in mind when I do. Thanks for watching!
It matzo
Ah yes! Thanks for watching!
Great review but too descriptive
Thanks for the feedback!
I won't be eating at this place it's just to many mises for me, I mean no lobster on that roll and that sandwich bread would really irritate me, they could do a lot better Shin at this restaurant but it is what it is, it looks like they don't care to much, anyway we'll catch you on the next one
The lobster roll definitely needed some help, and the sandwich bread was definitely a preference thing up front. I would like to try the real deal in New Orleans so I could see what the intention was. I thought the pan roast here was pretty solid, and while the ones at Station casinos are objectively better, I just can't wait 2-4 hours in line for one lol. Thanks for watching Admiral! See you in the next one!
@VegaswithShin Yeah, who wants to stand in line for hours just to eat some food? You're not going to catch me dead doing that. I heard a story that last December people were waiting for two hours to get a free pie at Red Rock Resort I mean really? and the standing in line to eat at those oyster bars in those station casino's really? You can count me out on ever doing that either I'd rather visit the village pub somewhere in town and eat that food, it's sad when a place like that has better food than all of the top restaurants on the strip for a fraction of the cost
Who wants apples in a lobster roll? Yuck!
I don't mind a sweet element in my seafood salads but it has to be an accent flavor and not the star of the show lol. Thanks for watching!
Omg, congratulations🎉 atleast you know your foods good, to identify "Puff Pastry" when you see it? Not like Tim Lee when he tried Porto's Cuban pastries..that are all made out of Puff pastry?🤔
I know at least what I know. I'm sure Tim knows a lot of stuff that I don't know. I'm not a professional cook. Just a professional big guy lmao. Thanks for watching!
Hmm an oyster bar review without any oyster dishes.👎
No charbroiled oysters, oyster rockefeller, fried oysters, oyster omelette or fresh oysters.
In retrospect I could have tried some of those but I was mostly following the recommendations of my server at this one. Thanks for watching!
Lame on the crab cake. Too much sauce and even looks full of breadcrumbs
Lots of filler on this one I agree. Thanks for watching!
Another price gouging place.
@@Resmith18SRThe Orleans Hotel Casino is owned by Boyd Gaming, up until 2008 they subsidized restaurant prices with casino revenue so the prices were relatively affordable, but not a good value price wise.
Tourist location. Comes with the territory. Thanks for watching!
@@VegaswithShin The Orleans restaurants used to be a locals spot, but that stopped after 2007 and especially with price increases after 2020.
Guess if I had to boil down this review Big Al's is mediocre at best. If the hush puppies are the best thing on the menu at a New Orleans style restaurant then that says it all. You can get good hush puppies at Captain D's. The gumbo looked OK at best. The pan roast looked like something I would eat ... maybe. The lobster roll looked downright awful. Lobster roll ain't New Orleans cuisine anyway. How about a Po' Boy? Oh and the muffuletta? Any good restaurant in New Orleans would be embarrassed by that puny little thing
A Po'Boy would have been great. After this experience, I do want to go to New Orleans sometime and try a muffuletta sandwich from the source so I can know what it's supposed to be. Thanks for watching!
@@VegaswithShin A whole muffuletta is huge and will easily feed two people. Most places will serve a half sandwich. I am sure you can find a restaurant that serves the real deal.
I only came here to see the oysters. Liar.
We got 'em coach!
By chance did you try 1 of the sausage pastries with the white sauce that came with the hush puppies? I was wondering if it paired better than the sauce they were served with.
That...is actually a very good idea. I should have done that lol. Thanks for watching!
