Lmao! No! They saw the war as an opportunity to push women into the workplace and take up masculine roles. It was a transition from 1st wave to 2nd wave feminism.
I'm a left leaning liberal but I love England and our national identity. I don't see why that should be framed as a bad thing. I don't view our country as inherently superior. There is beauty in the culture and national identity of countries all over the world. We can still consider ourselves an interconnected global society but one of distinct and beautiful countries and people who respect and admire each other
Beautifully put. Well done, Sir. I take issue with the illiberalism of this present Government. But I do not believe its most controversial elements, namely the clamping down on protests or its hostile immigration policies, represent this country or its values. The British people are a profoundly decent lot, who have made enormous sacrifices in the interests of their neighbours. Even in these confused, chaotic times, Britain remains an inherently decent, liberal nation.
The Soldier, written in 1914 during WW1 If I should die, think only this of me: That there's some corner of a foreign field That is for ever England. There shall be In that rich earth a richer dust concealed; A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware, Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam, A body of England's, breathing English air, Washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home. And think, this heart, all evil shed away, A pulse in the eternal mind, no less Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given; Her sights and sounds; dreams happy as her day; And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness, In hearts at peace, under an English heaven.
love bill cash, amzing moving speach when his generation dies we are in trouble unless the younger generation wake up or the same mistakes will again be repeated and we will all have to be patriots again.
Absolute rubbish. I am a young man with no money who feels safe in the knowledge that although I am poor, my country will continue to be give me the opportunity to better myself and join the ranks of those rich men through hard work. Stop making excuses for yourself.
@@hirdy161 you'd be better off in a Nordic country. Britain is a good country but it could be so much better, patriotism is one tool used to make people tolerate poor political policies.
Bill Cash said, “You should be proud to be patriotic, but Bill’s way of being proud to be patriotic, is when it don’t cost you anything, or when someone else does all the work or giving.
It must also be remembered that Farage is also a self confessed bloody Tory, and cannot be trusted,. You would be stupid to put ANY Trust or faith in Farage.
Exactly. Funny how the strongest proponents of patriotism are those who benefit the most from it. Look at Brexit for example, whilst the average British citizen is likely to become poorer as a result of leaving the EU both financially and culturally, those politicians and businessmen who fed us lies to appeal to our sense of patriotism are likely to benefit hugely. Not a new thing though when you think about it, who benefitted most from Britain's past expansionist policies because it certainly wasn't the average British citizen including those who were fighting to expand the British empire. To me Britain is a prime example of cleverly exploiting peoples' sense of patriotism to motivate them to act against their own self interests. I am from the UK and I love the UK but I am from a working class family and can see so clearly the damage patriotism/nationalism has done to other countries, cultures and the working class.
Funny how those who espouse patriotism in the UK appear to be those who have benefitted the most from it, I'm sensing a theme here, not surprising. If you look back in history, British and indeed English patriotism has been used as a tool to justify and motivate people to do all manner of unspeakable things. After all, why would a poor working class individual enlist in a war from which he is unlikely to benefit in any way and possibly deny his struggling family their primary bread winner. It'z crazy when you think about it. I think a bit of friendly patriotism is not so bad when it comes to sporting events though a bit pointless when you think about it, and patriotism can also be the motivation for good but I would say this is the exception to the rule.
It’s seems like you don’t understand what a community and culture is. People are willing to fight to keep their way of life, not everybody is only looking for personal benefits. Also do you have some examples of your idea that patriotism have been used to manipulate the masses?
SamWeller I thought it was to obtain freedom peacefully. Also wouldn't the British just take anything out of there ass to make someone who wanted free look bad.
The Suffragette's suspended their campaign and helped the war effort.
That's patriotic

@@JFP1988 patriotism is not only acceptable for the best country in the world. Your country does not need to be a world leader to be patriotic.
Nationalism is not a dirty word
Did he even say that word?
There is nothing wrong to be patriotic, in fact I think everyone should be patriotic about their country, blood is always thicker than blood.

He has severe nerve to mention ghandi at something like this when ghandi was alive during the Raj which the british where responsible for
