      "Accidentally"? The Indy 500 is run the same time every year -- Memorial Day weekend. For the record, I can't stand it when couples selfishly book weddings on holiday weekends. Many people get little vacation time, and holidays are the few times they're guaranteed time off. The last thing I want to be doing on my much-needed downtime is dressing up and going to a wedding.

    26 bridesmaids? The bride's mother probably made her ask every female relative, and neighbor's daughter, to be in the wedding party. Family "obligation" and all that. And personally, I'd love a mashed potato bar.

    • @davidhoffman1278
      @davidhoffman1278 2 года назад +3

      It's not going to be a mashed potato bar. It's going to be a bar with baked potatoes you have to mash yourself and apply your own toppings. Similar to the baked potato you get in a carryout box from a restaurant. If there is a baked potato bar you know the families are not spending the money to pay for someone to mash the potatoes. Don't expect anything beyond basic beverages, and plain cake. Don't be surprised if the cake is just white cake covered in plain white icing with no decorations. These are people out to not spend money.

    When my sister got married my BIL was astonished to discover they had to plan the ceremony around the Bama football schedule that year. He thought she was kidding. She wasn't. I was in school at Bama at the time and in the band so my best friend and I (bridesmaids) came home after the Auburn game in time for the ceremony then back to T'town to leave for the bowl game on Christmas Day. My cousin and her husband got married in Baton Rouge DURING the Alabama/Auburn game. When it was pointed out, their response was "LSU wasn't playing". This real estate agent bought and renovated an abandoned lakeside place that used to host events for family reunions and churches, and we found the new website for it in the first hour he put it up. Our wedding was in a church and reception in a bed & breakfast home built in the early 1900s. We had a harpist play before and at key points during the ceremony. We have relatives with dietary health issues so we had a table of melons, fruit, berries, grapes, and vegetables with a selection of dips. The main food table was a selection of delicious Cajun foods. We had two simple cakes. The groom’s cake was simple chocolate with chocolate dipped strawberries. The wedding cake was shaped like three gift boxes stacked on top of each other with a light vanilla almond flavor. Honeymoon was San Antonio in February.

    Many many years ago, my parents went to a lakeside wedding of one of my neighbors. The couple was young and really loved nature.....so much so that they didn't want the waist high summer weeds to be mowed. I was just glad my parents didn't meet any other wedding guests like water moccasins.

      From my experience of being a wedding vendor.... please make sure to have lots of shade and portable AC units if your wedding will be outdoors and in the summer. One wedding I worked on was outdoors in July in South Texas. The bride's family ended up sitting in the direct sunlight for the ceremony and her daddy (anglo gentleman) looked like a lobster before the end of the ceremony. Thankfully they had the practical and wise idea of having an indoor reception!

    Try this on for size, how about a "Southern Law Enforcement" wedding. Groom is a cop. Bride works in admin for the state police. Both come from law enforcement families. Fearing the tradition-monster prank from bachelor party, an official bachelor party didn't take place, but a pop up tailgate party did take place in the hotel parking lot. The highlight was when I had too much to drink and tried to pick a fight with three linesmen from Texas A&M, who were visiting a friend at the hotel. We did pull a prank, hiding the rings. The bride wasn't happy when we all pulled our pockets out in a mock search for the rings right at the critical part of the ceremony.

My mother ate a carrot and a bite of cake, that’s it, all day. All the parents were ready to sock the priest in the jaw before they were an hour into the rehearsal, the day of my grandfather (dads dad: picture a 5’ 2” vary Jewish advertising executive who could get control of a board room with one look) put the fear of God into him. 31 years later my parents still say they would change just about everything except the guests, dress, and each other.
