Does anybody else remember when Sony had their own proprietary digital sound called Sony Dynamic Digital Sound (SDDS) that was exclusive in theaters from the mid 90s until the early 2000s? I always wanted to hear that specific sound in my home theater because I loved it when I went to the movies, oh, well. 😢
The question to answer is - would you watch a Sony title on Core, Max (some titles), or ITunes (we know Netflix is last) I have a Sony TV and I use Core for streaming a title there because of better bit rate and DTS:X mixes for streaming are better bed layer but not as good heights, the center channel is a strong example of a big difference- in DTS it seems to be almost full range sounding
Thanks for the great review! I've been curious about this and was hoping that if physical disc is a 10, it would come in at a 9. But I guess there's always room for that to improve in the future. I agree with your thoughts on how to expand. I'd love to see them just release the Sony app to the Apple and Android stores so any streaming device can access the content. But the physical media player box route is also good too. This could totally be a Kaleidescape killer for Sony titles if they do it right like you said! I like Kaleidescape, but I think they will only be the "ultimate movie player" for so long as these other options mature and expand.

Apple could do the same, even if they just streamed their plus content in Dolby True HD it would be something to point out against the competition. Maybe one of the streaming services will step up and provide lossless audio as speeds continue to get faster. I’ve tested several movies with Bravia Core and the DTS does sound great.
Right? Kinda hoping Apple announces an upgraded Apple TV on Monday's Apple announcement. The one streaming device that can handle ALL codecs and pass thru. A supercharged Nvidia Shield if you will.
Towards the end when you talk about a Bravia box, Sony could include a download code for a digital copy with physical purchase. You get the best of both worlds.

Sony did try a Kaleidescape type system in the early 2010s when 4K TVs were introduced since there was little content available and it was pre-4K Blu-ray. But again the device was locked to Sony products meaning this Internet connected 4K media hard drive could only be purchased with a Sony 4K television. They quickly discontinued it since this was pre HDR and the demand for 4K TVs and content wasn’t high enough at the time. Once HDR showed up and we had a physical format that supported it Sony didn’t release an updated version that supported it. I remember seeing one in Best Buy years under plexiglass connected to a Sony TV playing clips from the Garfield Spider-man movies. This was around the same time Sony was doing their ‘Mastered in 4K’ Blu-rays (similar to what they did with Superbit DVDs long ago).
I have a Sony tv and awhile back I was checking out the audio codec being played in one of the Sony Core movies. My Marantz receiver said it was in Dolby Atmos so yay but the actual codec was Dolby Digital Plus where as the UHD Disc I own for the same movie was said to have the TRUE HD codec. Was a little disapointed to see the Sony Core didn't deliver Lossless audio. Now it could be something in the chain that's preventing the TrueHD to come through. Maybe the Sony TV itself. I have Bravia 7 and have 10 free credits and only use one so far on Spider-man No Way home. What are some movies worth using the credits on? I was thinking using 2 on the newer Bad Boys movies
I would say it looks better than Netflix by a little bit, but it still isn’t close to the same quality even as a standard 1080p Blu-ray. 4K Blu-ray is the definitive way to watch movies, especially if you have a good high-end TV. It’s insane to think that in this year that streaming still can’t even match standard Blu-ray.
It's OK.. just found out how to disable the dts audio on sony core. I don't want to loose any discreet affects using nueral x. . The bad boys new film has just come on free ( in uk)
Neural-X can be pretty discrete. I bought the 4k steelbook of Dredd a couple of months ago. And the 2K Blu Ray has a DTS HD MA soundtrack but with a DTS: Neo-X compatible mix. Well, Neural-X works perfectly with that kind of mix. It has test tones on the disc and I tried them. It straight up sounded like a native DTS:X mix, it was so discrete sounding. But also keep in mind, that with DTS:X and Neural-X, if you have your height channels set up as Atmos "Tops", then none of the height information is discrete. DTS:X/Neural-X wants "HEIGHT" channels kinda like Auro3D does. So I have my upper layer speakers set up as Heights in my Denon X6700H and Neural-X sounds a lot more discrete. Setting them up as heights doesn't have any negative effects on Atmos, it just makes your system more compatible with and perform better with DTS:X and Auro3D.
@@FURognar Agreed mate , neural x can be fantastic, probably better than most atmos tracks. But I don't care for this dtsx enhanced, too much bass , even the dialogue can come through the subwoofer. Just don't like it personally. [ I also have the denon 6700h avr)
Instead of a sperate Sony Core box it would be cool if you could jut plug in your own har drive into the TVs usb port and have the decryption handled in the TV. Overall it’s a nice perk included with a Sony TV but they need to open up their catalog. New releases are few and far between. I’ve had my A95K for a year now which came with 10 credits and 2 Yrs but I’m still sitting on 4 unused credits waiting for something new to come out need to have.

The newest Bad Boys I haven’t seen yet, but I’ve seen a few clips of it with some REALLY groundbreaking cinematography for action sequences. 🤷♂️🎉
The Spider-Man’s have Dolby atmos on Apple TV
You watch alota gonzo ?
So true.
Pirates will still pirate no matter what they do! PS5 jail brake now available on RUclips 😂
Hate widescreen
Seriously who likes watching films that are streamed?
It is 100% dependent on having an internet connection, and they have the ability to prevent you accessing that film anytime they desire
I will NEVER subscribe to this garbage, physical media is vital for film preservation, do not let Sony and all these other companies get away with this....hold onto your Blu Ray as long as you can!
