Epica should do opening act for Symphony X. Not the other way around. This band have been around for 30 years. Their are pioneer in progressive metal.
Great band. Russell Allen is one of the best metal singers of recent years and the guitarist, Michael Romeo, is one of the best players around. You saw (and heard) Allen sing when you reacted to Ayreon’s The Day that the World Breaks Down.
Funny that you said Epica should take them on tour. I got into Epica when I saw them opening up for Symphony X back in 2008.
Also, check out the song when all is lost, my favorite balled by them.
I guess, if you say so, dude.
@@zombiemachinery4868 Fair enough, I thought it could go either way. My bad. So yes, completely agree with your comment.
@@zombiemachinery4868 Ok cool, thanks for letting me know, I will keep that in mind.
Saw them in Portland at the Hawthorn Theater. Went for Symphony X, huge fan, first time I heard Epica and love them now too. One of my favorite shows, great pairing.
Russell Allan is definitely in the top five best male metal singers.
Live they're awesome and such nice humble musicians...makes for a great show.
Kind of funny that you mentioned Symphony X opening for Epica. It was actually the other way around...Epica opened for Symphony X, back in 2008 (a tour I saw personally, in Montréal). Good show. Into Eternity was also opening, back when Stu Block was their lead singer (man that guy can sing).
Edit: Looks like I'm not the only viewer who saw that tour.
if you love classical flavors, you can enjoy candlelight fantasia or sacrifice from symphony x. these are masterpieces.
A good ballad from Symphony x is on the ICONOCLAST ALBUM ( my favorite cd ) The song is called WHEN ALL IS LOST. It`s the last song on the cd.
Symphony X is an American progressive metal band from Middletown, New Jersey. Founded in 1994, the band consists of guitarist Michael Romeo, keyboardist Michael Pinnella, drummer Jason Rullo, lead vocalist Russell Allen and bassist Michael Lepond.
Symphony X has been around for almost 30 years, so they definitely have old-school metal tendencies, but also are very prog with symphonic elements. Russell Allen is def one of the best male metal vocalists you'll find and Michael Romeo is one of the best guitar shredders out there the gets criminally overlooked. You love guitar solos and slick licks, he's got you covered. Paradise Lost is probably their best album overall and "Evolution (The Grand Design)" and "Eve of Seduction" have got to be my two most favorite tracks by them.
This album is a great intro to them. They are primarily a instrument and prog metal band so yes his vocals are back in the mix. As a vocalist yourself you should check out paradise lost, when all is lost, nevermore etc and more ‘single’ type songs. Their balanced masterpiece is probably ‘Egypt’ and is relatively short for vocal fans.
Symphony X is a band of the progressive heavy metal.
Is one of bigest band of the world.
I love this band
Their drumming twisted my brain like an octopus. One of the best so far.
Some suggestions if u wanna hear a ballad by then:
When all is lost
Paradise lost
The Sacrifice
Without you
The accolade 1 and 2
Candlelight Fantasia
You can't go wrong with any of these songs, altough When All Is Lost is more than just a ballad. It's also an incredible song
Give they odyssey a spin, he shows his range and technique well in that one. Worth it.
Symphony X is one of my favourites bands ever; Michael Romeo is one of the greatest metal guitarrists in history (he doesn’t have the fame he deserves) and Russell Allen is an excellent singer, I deeply recommend you explore his voice.
My recommendations:
The Accolade
The Accolade II
The Odyssey (24 minutes song, masterpiece)
The Divine Wings of Tragedy
Church of the Machine
Through the looking glass
“Balads”
Lady of the Snow
When all is lost
Candlelight Fantasia
Swan song
Cheers!
Symphony X are one of the best bands in the world 🇬🇧🤘
Actually epica opened for them one time I saw them live. Simone was sick though so her vocal coach filled in and still rocked out.
First time I saw Symphony X in 2008, Epica opened.
They are a prog/power metal band with extremely virtuosic instrumentalists. They've also always had a neoclassical element to their sound, especially on their early stuff. Russell Allen is the best vocalist in the business.
This song is a fucking MASTERPIECE, damn each time i listen, im surprised
My favorite album by Symphony X was 2007's Paradise Lost especially the songs Domination, Paradise Lost, and a Serpants Kiss
Agreed!
That album is what got me into them. IMO, the best album I've heard in a log time.
One of the greatest band out there. Allen as a vocalist may be the best of them all. Just awesome voice.
Romeo is truly an guitar god.
Yes, please. More Symphony X. The song Underworld is amazing!
Well, you've been introduced to the vocalist Russell Allen in Ayreon's song The day that the world breaks down he is the singer with the raspy voice who is playing the president. Also you can check out the guitarist Michael Romeo's solo in the song Fate of man in the other project of Arjen Luccassen Star one with Brittney Slayes
9:25 until the end....is like the best half time metal "stomp" riff ever.
if you want to hear more of his vocals, i recommend listening to of sins and shadows live.
greetings from the Philippines 🎉
Best music video ever made!
If you are familiar with Ayreon, Russell Allen participated on several of their albums. He was the President in The Day That the World Breaks Down.
Just seen them in Montreal last night! Awesome as always!!!!
“Awakenings” and “Egypt” are other two great songs. Totally different
Symphony X is my favorite band, if you want a ballad from them check out their best ballad: Candlelight Fantasia
Russell does a duet with Floor on Revamp's "Sweet Curse".
He does not growl... and they've been around since the early 90s, so of course they're old school. Additionally, this music video is a shortened single and it's supposed to be more accessible for radio plays, otherwise, they are a sick neoclassical/symphonic progressive metal band. One of the pioneering ones in the genre. Dare you to listen to Divine Wings of Tragedy. Warning it's 20min long!
albums:
Symphony X 1994
The Damnation Game 1995
The Divine wings of Tragedy 1996 (also awesome song)
Twilight in Olympus 1998
V: The New Mythology Suite 2000
Live On The Edge Of Forever 2001
The Odyssey 2002 (Also awesome song)
Paradise Lost 2007
Iconoclast 2011
Underworld 2015
Clip versions are cut, because SymphonyX have long tracks... the beginning of the solo was cut...
If you just want to hear Russell Allen, I would recommend this specific performance he did with TSO a few years back ruclips.net/video/o_TIR_Lq3rk/видео.html or him singing Dawn of a Million Souls with Ayreon
Also, he's fantastic live. Symphony X is somewhat notorious for their lack of 'high quality / professionally mastered' live material, but you can still hear him pretty well on much of it.
I think is more probable that épica opens to SYMPHONY X. This song is agressive so it makes a lot of growling but may be you could hear The divine wings of tragedy 🎭 !🤘
The official audio version is better than this version for some reson and a little longer as well.
Some good starters for symphony X in my opinion are:
Sea of lies
Shepherd's kiss
Domination
Iconoclast
Ballads:
Paradise lost
The sacrifice
Without you
Candlelight Fantasia
Shepherd's kiss? I know it's a typo but sounds like a bonus track for church groups lol 🤣
I'm somewhat a singer myself, and this guy right here is the most gifted metal singer of all times. (U need to hear more, everytime it gets better)
Symphony X was a well respected progmetal band and one of the pioneers of the genre. But I wonder why they are not as popular as Dream Theater.
Ballads
Lady of the snow
When all is lost 🇬🇧🤘
Russell Allen gave you your high pitch request at the end. He never disappoints. If you want to hear him sing high, and hear some brutal metal riffs, I suggest The Walls of Babylon off this same album.
These guys are awesome! I suggest checking out "Walls of Babylon" next.
BTW - your voice sounds great - I would love to hear you and Russell Allen singing together!
That hook at 9:33 is so freakin' crunchy...
Check out When All is Lost to really hear Russel's vocal range. So much happening in that song, it's one of my favorites. Can't go wrong with The Divine Wings of Tragedy either though.
I recommend When All Is Lost if you wanna check out a ballad from them.
I love Symphony X. Russel Allen has one of the best modern metal voices! And he is great when he performs with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra when they tour. I just saw Symphony X last week on their 25th anniversary tour! So much energy and fun! They are from New Jersey and I have heard Allen talking about Dio several times, and you can see the guitarist Michael Romeo tapping on the guitar frets like some of bands/guitarists from his youth. I think Yngwie Malmsteen and Randy Rhoads were a couple. Both had done some fret tapping in their time. You definitely need to listen to more! They are a great band!!
One of the two attempts they made at an official video. This version of the song is cut short a bit. I wish they focused more on showing the musicians and less on the cheesy acting and special effects. Symphony X is an excellent band, you should check more stuff from them.
I´d recommend Sea of Lies from their album The Divine Wings of Tragedy. :)
Symphony X is so good....incredible live. Check out the Odyssey
The entire Paradise Lost album is SOOOOO good. You'll love the title track for a ballad. That song really sealed me being into them (as if the album as a whole wasn't enough).
He also appeared on that Aryeon song The day the world breaks
Girl. You are sooo beautyfull!
aww thank you so much
Hear a ballad called Candlelight Fantasia or even The Accolade
Wish that you could check out the Odyssey for his voice and that epic journey, yet I know a 24-minute song is unlikely for a reaction. Not my favorite song, but a quick video that is recent, and showcases his voice somewhat would be "Without You", clocking in at 6 minutes. I think there may be a couple of camps on the newer vs the older songs - which usually happens with great bands over time. Now Michael Romeo is insane on guitar and I'd recommend something else for him, yet he shreds a bit on this suggestion.
great reaction. "okay i like it" 😎 yes they have a variety of song styles including ballads which aren't lame, check out Awakenings by them!
Symphony X Is a power/progrrssive band, react to sogns like the accolade 1 & 2 , smoke and mirrors or the unique and fantastic candlelight fantasia
8:24 I just compared the audio from their video version with the spotify version. The audio in the video is completely f****d up. Probably from a time when youtube compressed the heck out of everything. That's why you can't hear Russell clearly in the mix. Everything sounds muffled compared to a high quality version of the song.
Michael Romeo is the guitarist of Symphony x and he has a solo project called War of the Worlds part 1 and 2. Part 2 is FIRE!!! Dino Jelusick is on vocals and if you really want to have a music orgasm check out DIVIDE AND CONQUER from War of the worlds part 2!!!! You can thank me later.
If you want to aprecciate the voice of the singer, you must to listen "SEVEN" or "HERETIC" of Symphony X
Sorry, old video, but I just saw Symphony X in concert last weekend, and they've still got it- Russel's vocals were on-point the whole time. Yeah, the video isn't the greatest. The video actually cut out about 1 minute of the soloing from the studio version of the song. This song also isn't the best example of Russel's range - he does beautiful clean vocals as well as the classic gritty metal vocals - he's in the same category as Dio and Dickenson, for me,, in terms of style and ability. Good tracks to hear his vocal abilities and a variety of the band's styles : "Charon", "When All is Lost", "Kiss of Fire", "Egypt", "The Odyssey"
almost forgot! -Listen to the first two of Arjen's Star One albums, "Space Metal" and "Victims of the Modern Age" for Russel Allen, Floor Jansen, Damien Wilson, and Dan Swano singing together on every song! Especially great are "28 Days (Till the End of Time), "Star Child", "Human See Human Do". The new Star One album is excellent, too, but Russel, Damien, Floor, and Dan each only sing one song
YOU HAVE TO CHECK OUT A SONG FROM MICHAEL ROMEO`S NEW ALBUM WAR OF THE WORLDS PART 2. MICHAEL ROMEO IS THE GUITARIST FROM SYMPHONY X AND HE HAS THE AMAZING DINO JELUSICK ON VOCALS. I RECOMMEND THE SONG HYBRIDS. I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOUR JAW ON THE FLOOR WHEN YOU HEAR THIS MASTERPIECE OF METAL PROWESS. THE GUITER WORK IS NEXT LEVEL AND BEYOND ANYTHING ANYONE HAS HEARD BEFORE. HOPE TO SEE YOUR REACTION!!
Symphony x evolution
hey this is my band number 1, but i realy need talk to you this, u have a great5 reaction but dont have a playlist ok? please try more, try understand metal this is important
hey its a long way to the top if u wanna rock and roll ok kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
When AllIs Lost or To Hell and Back would be great!
Goddess you've heard him, The Day The World Breaks Down he's the bluesy part.
Also Allen/Olzon Russell and Anette.
Omggggg yasssssss! How is that I never check his band out!!!!
This song is a pretty bad example of what Allen is capable of. The previous album before this one really highlights is true potential. Here's a sample Accolade II - ruclips.net/video/6Kb8SVgbzgM/видео.html It shows you more of where and how Symphony X started vs where they ended up by this one.
Since I've heard the first time in 2007 I felt too not enough power on vocals, but only in this videoclip. Take this music in any app e blows out your ears with Russel Allen voice.
Anyways, SX is more a prog/shymphonic metal with some power elements. I think that Paradise Lost was a breakthrough to them.
Hi! What about Brazil? Brazil is METAL too. Please react to Nervosa, Silent Cry, Shaman and Sepultura.
Allen es el mejor ¡¡¡
Just do the deep dive and jump into The Odyssey or The Divine Wings of Tragedy. The former having more vocals.
Evergrey “Recomended”
Listen to the track " Dehumanized:" off Iconoclast
Keep in mind this is edited version
Yes moar please
The craziest thing is that Epica, is based on them... hahahaha. Man,... welcome to metal. You are like a baby that has no idea what is what.... Symphony X opening to epica! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
You know those kids with the song from disney that have no idea what is what. You are like them. So cute
Power Metal is in reality the sub-genre with the more obvious classical influences, not symphonic. Especially the 90's shred bands. Angra and Rhapsody of Fire next. Carry On ruclips.net/video/LqaDmOLRhME/видео.html and Emerald Sword ruclips.net/video/LqaDmOLRhME/видео.html. Lightning fast arpegios bursting all over the place!
long intro you say? I can think of a few songs with a 4+ minute intro.
That song your hearing is from the 80`s. That is an old album. They have way better material on their more recent albums.
In the dictionary where the definition of man is Russell's pic should be there. That.is.a.man.
Dawn of A Million Souls Star One Arjen's other project.
Their most famous song is "The Odyssey", but for the next reaction I would recommend "Serpent's kiss" ruclips.net/video/V8gA1ooxw0I/видео.html
The mix of this song isn't as great as other songs; his voice is fantastic on other songs. "Ballads": "Paradise Lost" (song), and "The Sacrifice" are good starters. If you want a LONG song with some great vocals, check out "The Odyssey" (song).
Russel allen is one of the best metal singers ever, check out their older stuff, it is way better
emmm... Epica opens for them... they are Older and better in every way.
Sometimes the mixing engineer has to deal with so much. A hifi friend of mine says they're really badly mixed.
This is possibly one of their LEAST symphonic songs. Many of their tracks have long portions of classical/symphonic sounding interludes.
that video you watched actually has poor audio quality. try searching in youtube the audio video or smtg...
That was funny. A singer trying to understand Symphony X from the lens of so-called "symphonic metal" bands, which could never perform anything by Symphony X, lol:)
Is it me or would epica not open for symphony x? I feel they are bigger but I've never cared much for epica
Also, listen to The Odyssey, or Divine Wings of Tragedy. Fantastic songs
I'm a bigger fan of Symphony X, but Epica seems to be more successful. Epica does a lot more touring, and in bigger venues.
You picked the wrong first song for them. Inferno or fallen would have been better
I love these guys but they have the worst music videos, haha...
Russell Allen(and the rest of the gang) are all amazing and under rated
VERY BAD ANALYSIS Symphony X is a " must know" to anyone who considers itself a rock/metal fan or musician. There are thousand bands around the globe, and because of that it's imprescindible only to know the best of them, and symphony X is one of them.
Symphony X is the best band in the world. How didnt you heard? And they are not a symphonic metal band. They are the best Prog Metal band in this days. And this song is not the good choice to start listen SYX. They have too many different musicals styles in their music and this "album opening bombastic song" is not giving their all musical capasity? And who is Epica. Epica's poor music never reach Symphony X's high musical capacity. Please listen other songs.. For example The Odyssey. Real Symphonic Prog Metal art from them. Or "Divine Wing Of Tragedy", "When All Is Lost" etc etc... you realy dont know about something about Symphony X. Maestro Michael Romeo is the biggest composer.. Vocalist Russell Allen is the most popular male voc in this days in Metal World. He is also member of Trans Siberian Orchestra.. and and they have too many classical music parts in their music. Bach, Bartok, Verdi, Mozart etc.. You can't promote a group like SyX with just one song. it's unfair.. :-( luckily we know how Symphony X's music is over the limits. make this band google!
I didn't get much insight from this reaction. It's definitely your headphones and Epica is inferior.
Пизде, конечно. Симфони на разогрев Эпике = рука лицо
This video have bad sound
