So my good friend Mike LePond is the bass player in Symphony X. He said that their recent tour was the best they've ever had. In our last convo he gave a huge shout-out to the fans for their support.
Note that a band like Symphony X isn't a bunch of millionaires. Plus, the revenue situation in music - even for a band like Symphony X - isn't nearly what it used to be. These guys make music and tour because it's what they love to do. Every little bit of support helps.
I saw their Chicago show on that tour - glad to hear they felt the love! It was my first time seeing them live, and it kicked ass.
I just saw them kick off their tour tonight in Ohio w/ Heathen.

it's very conversional. I don't claim to know the behind the scenes, but my guess would be that the label pushed them to do this. sooo it becomes superficial.

I'd love to get into this argument, but I already reached my youtube commenting quota defending Dream Theater's "The Astonishing". I"d likely just say all the same stuff here. Good music is good music and bands like DT and Symphony X likely don't care if you decide they aren't heavy enough, or prog enough. This song kicks ass.

Suvvia, lo ammettono tanto chiaramente e amorevolmente: "I've come undone", "Mi sono esaurito"; esaurita la vivacità, esaurita l'originalità, esaurita quella geniale essenza che ha reso i Symphony X una band unica con album come V e The Odyssey. Ed è evidente dalle lyrics vuote e dimenticabili di questa ballata, per non parlare del tema (un cliché) e i riff da autoplagio; per quanto struggente sia il ritornello, mi auguro vivamente che Underworld possa offrire molto di più!

I just preordered. CANNOT WAIT. You guys never fail to deliver music that is both driving and melodic, complex and powerful. It's rare that each and every component of a band is virtuoso quality and hits on every cylinder. I can listen to your stuff over and over and over and never get bored. Cannot wait.
When I was going through some super bad depression and suicidal tendencies this was the song I listen to 100 times a day. These guys are amazing, one of my all time favorite bands, killer song! 🤘

Well they may have taken 4-5 years to release their last few albums, though they've certainly made it worth the wait and it sounds like "Underworld" will be no exception. The production sounds great, especially the crisp acoustic guitar at the beginning!
Russell Allen is a god as usual on this track. Really digging this one!

SyX can do no wrong. A little different than the mythology that we're used to - the topic sounds a lot more personal, but then again there was always that element in their music, even if it was hiding under the guise of a fictional story.
For the Symphony X Fans: I don't know if you've noticed some connections in the artwork of this video and some from the older album artworks. If you see in 4:08 the girl with the flower, is the same as the girl with the flower in the Paradise Lost album artwork, and the same as the girl in the The Divine Wings of Tragedy album artwork. Curious... What does this mean?

When i first listened to this song, I didn't think much of it since at that time I was really digging Divine Wings and Damnation Game. But now as I have listened to their older records a bit too much, this album is pretty good with lots of commercial catchy hooks!
It does sound a bit different, still it is possible to clearly hear the old sym x style. Its the combination of modern metal with prog elements and their old ballads, taken to something more dynamic.

Evans Martin funny thing is that I've been listening to them from one year and they became my favourite band after 1st time I heard them. I can't say I'm experienced listener as I'm seriously interested in metal from 2 years and I'm a teenager.
Still the symphony X has the great quality of work, amazing compositions and what makes them better from dream theater IMHO, they just play it hard.

Symph X are much better than Dream Th. Maybe single musicians are weaker as performers but the ensemble is much better. And Allan together with Alder are the best voices around

i never liked them that much i mean, they were pretty damn good in some songs and others were like bad...... This is gorgeous , non that complex lyrics or melody but for fuck sake as long as the resoult is this smooth and fluid i am gonna give it a thumb up..... this song is amazing nothing seems forced, looks like the whole song made itself without any sort of constriction , everything is how it should be and the video is nice too... i liked it and i usually hate lyrics videos.... really good if the album is as good as this i feel like it will be my summer album, the one u listen till you hate it or you learn every single song by heart.

i can just love 1 song per artist for ex i think that The game form dragonforce is a great song but i hate all the other song they made. i only listen to songs that can make me feel something , if i feel nothing listening to a song this means that i wont listen again that music..
PiratePineapplez Maybe give another chance to the old songs? Some are way better than this one, and others are around the same quality. My favorite album is "V".
Noxxys Some of the amazing songs include Awakenings/The Accolade/Accolade II/The Odyssey(song)/Paradise lost - there is really a lot of other amazing songs. Maybe you would enjoy the "Live on the Edge of Forever" from 2001.

Gnarly!, iv been a fan for years starting out wth divine wings of tragedy! This is my jam it helps when you can actually sing along.
This is fantastic; and is another perfect addition to one of the greatest collections of ballads in metal. Classic Symphony X through and through, especially in the second half.

thank god, I am not the "pls go back to the roots" guy ...under every video of a new album/style/song of a band that has a characterstic sound you read the same old boring comments like "I want to listen to the same kind of music my whole life!!! why the fuck did you change your style?!??!!!!?!" I appreciat every kind of music that sounds amazing (and this does) even though it sounds a bit different
+borgwir see... that's where i might be the guy who you're referring to. I didn't like this band before the new stuff.. but now i can't stop listening to the new Disc. BUT, the past two Kamelot discs have sucked with the new singer, and i'm begging for a different singer because the new guy changed the feel of the music and i want the older stuff! lol.. we became fans because we liked what we hear, and when it changes... it's for the better for some, and worse for others. I fit in both categories for different bands.

nice song but seems so different again. too simple for Symphony X and bit too easy and safe (do I dare to say commercial?). Don't get me wrong but when you have heard songs like when all is lost, paradise lost, or sacrifice this song doesn't come even close by those standards.

I liked 'Nevermore' a lot better (even if it's a different style as well) and not beacuse it's a metal fast paced song, it's just this one hasn't really anything strong or new to offer... It sounds like a thousand songs I've listened from many other random bands, I mean it's a nice song but nothing unforgettable like the songs from their older albums. Where's the mystical breaks? the keyboard solos? the neoclassical/symphonic riffs and arrangements? let alone the progressiveness...

Nice, with the way Romeo plays that acoustic and Pinnela changed the setting of his keyboard to piano. It really does sound like Communion and the Oracle.They weren't kidding when they said this album sounded like there older stuff while still mixing the heavy sounds of Paradise Lost and Iconoclast. It's a great mix.
