As a day 1 Genshin player, I'll say the pity system really isn't bad. You can most characters you want if you save, and every 10 pull feels like it matters

At first I thought these games were unplayable. For far I’ve got 20 pulls after pulling the last character. I hold 50 tickets right now, and the next update gives another 20 for free I think. It’s just not that hard if you save up for multiple banners.
Just to clarify, it is every 10 summons you are guaranteed a 4 star not just a 10 pull at a time summon. One reason some people pull singles until the 4 or 5 star is summoned.

@@ymuirr Agreed, but the only issue about hoyo games is lack of content. It’s not something a beginner should worry about (especially for Genshin), but once your done it feels as dry as a desert.
@Rika-sensei I don't have tons of time to game every day so it's not an issue for me and I also play GW2 so if I'm done the content for a bit I'll just do dailies and focus on that or WotV, or go outside spend time with my family, etc.
Well, in genshin, the weapon banner always has 2 5 star promotional weapons to guarantee an weapon, it is necessary to spend 240 pulls to get the weapon you want, since you can mark the weapon you want. In the Star Rail's launch is only one Light Cone in the Light Cone banner, so is possible that in the future they change it to Genshin's style once start the banner reruns along side with new characters

As a day 1 Genshin player I'll probably just flesh my roster out early and then if some super banger meta changing 5 star comes out like HuTao did, I'll probably go full sail for them and their weapon to boost myself up. But early on I think I'll just pick and choose who to get and work with 4 star weapons mostly. Also try to discover who the 5 stars are pretending to be 4 stars, looking at you Fischl, Bennett and Xingqiu.
guess it really depends on how easy it is to get the currency and how much it dips off late game, alot of gacha games seem to slow down on the rewards once you start to get slower into story meaning it could be something where you need to save for specific banners you know are good

One thing about Genshin and Honkai Star Rail is pity in these games is better than other gacha systems when you have a 100% guarantee you will get the character you want. Sure it could take 150 rolls to 180 total, but it's a guarantee, and the pity carries banner over banner. So if you shoot for someone on a 50/50 and you were just trying to see if you win it, but a character you REALLY want is slated to come in the next patch or something, you can save the guarantee and grab them 100%. No bs, just enough to hit the soft pity more or less guarantee. I will always take a 100% no BS guarantee in a gacha system vs other systems with higher percentages, or limited character banners with 2 people so you roll and hit one character 5 times, but not the other one you REALLY wanted, fuck that shit. Give me a guarantee any day of the week, then it stops being a gamba, and it's a matter of strategy in roll pulling at that point.

@@haruchan4519 Ah, no problem glad to help. I may talk about things a certain way, but the good news is you can avoid spending money and roll for who you want. Just keep in mind once you hit the 5 star limited character, it resets back to 50/50 and you have to roll again through that 50/50 for the next limited character to see if you hit or not. So you can plan ahead of time, and since all the pity carries over, it's easier to strategize who you roll for.
The amount of videos I've seen where they just say, it's just like ______ in Genshin is pretty insane haha. That said I enjoy throwing the odd 10 pull or two at banners I like so the pity carrying over is excellent. I'm going all in Jing Yuan because of his awesome JP voice actor so hopefully I can at least pick up Sushang and Tingyun.
that guarantee rate up carry over is the main reason i like it, i like to summon here and there for the dopamine. other gacha games i play that want me to sit on 100+ summons to spend in one banner kill me inside.
Genshin's pity is very nice although the weapon banner in Genshin is usually a massive trap. I feel like HSR's is going to be less of a trap since it seems to be just a single lightcone featured per cycle, increasing your chance of getting what you want. But the unit banners are usually pretty good feeling. You get something good every ten pull(since 4*s aren't bad in Genshin and seem to be the same in HSR unlike MRs in WotV :( ), and if you get an early 5*, its ALWAYS a good thing because it accelerates your chance of getting the one you want even if it isn't the one you want. Definitely better than a lot of other systems.
I will say that in Genshin, a full pity is roughly $200 for a 50/50. In WOTV, it's roughly $300 for a guarantee. Mathed out with the most expensive non limited pack in each game. So they are both kinda close, but pity carrying over definitely puts it in favor of Genshin imo. Also, there is a soft pity in Genshin where you are way more likely to receive a 5 star at around the 75th pull. However, i still prefer WOTV as the rates are generally far better. Btw in Genshin, free to play currency after exploring most of the map is quite low, though it seems to have gotten a bit better since I last played.
Yeah no real way to know how good F2P will have it just yet, although its probably comparable to Genshin. As a spender I like this a lot more than some of the other PVE focused gachas Ive played for sure.
While true, you stop needing to use premium currency after getting the character in Genshin, so $400 max. You would still need to spend money and materials (Shards, UR scrolls and horns) to even get the character to competitive level in WoTV.
9 multis for guarantee 5*. I mean that's certainly not the worst I've seen. At the same time though, I think it will be the $$$ cost per multi or how readily available the currency is to earn for free that will decide how good that is
If this is comparable to genshin (and it seems like being the case) you can expect ~12.000 of the gacha currency per patch with a single summon being 160 and hardpity at 90 summons (softpity starts at 74). So overall you can expect one 5* per patch and one guaranteed featured 5* every two patches.
Just to look into further after launch, genshin has a soft pity as well, where your chance of acquiring a character goes up substantially after 74 wishes in. So in the 2 years ive been putzing around genshin, i think at worst, it took me 82 rolls to get a character. I dont think Ive ever seen someone get so unlucky it actually took them 90. I have no idea if Star Rail will have this or not, but it would be good to keep an eye on. Also secretly, the genshin 50 : 50 isnt a 50 : 50 but like a 51.5 : 48.5 per data aggregates (in the players favor). Though that fact hasn't helped me as in the 16 times Ive reached a 50 : 50, Ive lost 12 of those. My account still slaps, but man Id love for some love from the game. I went an entire year without winning a single 50 : 50! It sounds like they upgraded their lightcone banner in a good way compared to genshin's weapon banner. Everyone just calls it a trap in Genshin for good reason.
@@ymuirr haha dont worry, one of my friends has over 70% win rate and I almost always an easier time in abyss than them. I might accidentally have a C4 Keqing, but I also have a C2 Ayaka /w Mistsplitter after brute forcing (as a welkin level player)

I was waiting for this from you, hahaha. It's so much nicer than WOTV, though Genshin is less generous in a way on a weekly basis but you can at least have an idea of what you need and can save pity, build it (both not recommended unless you are educated on that system), but its so much more convenient than 42k vis go big or go cry.
The good part is. In Genshin/HSR once you get the character the paying stops. Often for a character I'm excited for in WotV getting them is just step 1. Step 2 is getting them to 120/140 now. I usually slow cook them for the last few levels, but If i want them now I'll at least get the paid "you pulled them" pack and stuff.
@Kaisvoresce I don't even speed build anymore, I pull, trade in medals for shards and then barracks/chocobo them. I save that vis for the next cash grab unit or VC. If it's limited then I might get a few shards from shop but I am very stingy on the limited I pull for unless it's like GL EX since you know they will be back soon afterwards.

man i played genshin almost 3 years and HSR since 1 month and i already have more 5s weapons in HSR.....gacha character is same but weapon banner in HSR is 1000x better
one thing that you have not mentioned is the Standard banner this banner is always available, costs the same to summon on as event banners and has only the normal 5* characters as well as their light cones on it (and all the 4* characters/cones) the 90 summons for a guaranteed 5* is the same here, but there is no 50/50 as there is no focused character to get it is generally recommended NOT to summon on this banner using Stellar Jade (the universal summon currency), because players can acquire summons for only this standard banner from other sources so it is better to save jade for the event banners while only using those specific summons for the standard banner
Yeah I plan on doing a banner breakdown once I know for sure what characters on on each banner but yes, standard banner = use standard tickets only afaik
i have a doubt if i do 90 pulls and get a 5 star non promotional character and then the banner ends, in the next banner when i do 90 pulls i have the promotional character for sure or it "resets" again and have to do 180 for the promotional character? that's is so important and in every video like this they don't mention it

I have a question after 80 pulls on seele banner I got welt. Then I went to the departure banner and immediately pulled a 5 star(since I had already gotten one away from pulling it). How does that affect the 2 half of pulling for seele?
The thing is, in GI it takes ages to get enough summons if you're f2p... and from what I've seen until now, here it won't be different. Light spenders don't have much more than f2p players. If you absolutely want something, I fear you'll have to spend a lot. Well, I do hope it will be better than GI ^^'
I don't mind having to spend some money to get something in a game, now Ill save that sentiment until I see what kind of deals are out there weekly / monthly.
But if you wish on the standard banner and then wait for the 5 star character with a pity built up on the standard banner, WILL that pity cross over to that event character's banner because I am currently savig for Jingliu since I dont have enough for Kafka😢?

This is slightly better than Genshin's in a few ways. I don't think Gernshin has the 50/50 then guarantee on rate up 4 stars. I also believe their weapon banner works more or less like the unit banner, not with some better rates and higher odds like HSR.

As a day 1 Genshin player and a player of many other gacha games, this is one of the most friendliest pity system I've ever seen if you're aiming to get a featured 5 stars character (I can confirm that you explained it very very well 😁). However, the more the game will advance, the more complicated it can get if you're aiming for specific 4 star characters (even if they will probably end up in the general pool, as they do in Genshin) !!!
DONT TRY TO SNIPE 4*, I spent 390 wishes for 1 copy of a rate up. Inadvertently pulled 3 5* I didn't want and never use. And that was "well before pity" cost me about 120 wishes worth of pity.
The most f2p pity from my experience is PGR with the monthly log in u have enough currency to get every new character and their weapons guaranteed too f2p even without money u get still get everything but by supporting the game a bit they give u everything pretty much
So basically if I waste 30 passes for Aventurine’s banner means that in the next banner I will catch the pitty after spending 60 other passes, what if I decide to not open in the next banner but in the banner that comes after the next one, will that be still counted as 30 out of 90 pulls?

If you lose the 50/50 on seele's banner then the next character you will get (within the next 90 pulls) will be the featured character on that banner .

The thing about Genshin/Mihoyo pull/pity system is that yes, you're guaranteed after 18x 10 pulls, but the thing is that Mihoyo is extremelyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy stingy on free currency they give you and the paid options are also super stingy with almost never having sales/deals.

While true, you stop needing to use premium currency after getting the character in Genshin, so $400 max. You would still need to spend money and materials (Shards, UR scrolls and horns) to even get the character to competitive level in WoTV.
9 multis for guarantee 5*. I mean that's certainly not the worst I've seen. At the same time though, I think it will be the $$$ cost per multi or how readily available the currency is to earn for free that will decide how good that is
If this is comparable to genshin (and it seems like being the case) you can expect ~12.000 of the gacha currency per patch with a single summon being 160 and hardpity at 90 summons (softpity starts at 74).
So overall you can expect one 5* per patch and one guaranteed featured 5* every two patches.
Just to look into further after launch, genshin has a soft pity as well, where your chance of acquiring a character goes up substantially after 74 wishes in. So in the 2 years ive been putzing around genshin, i think at worst, it took me 82 rolls to get a character. I dont think Ive ever seen someone get so unlucky it actually took them 90. I have no idea if Star Rail will have this or not, but it would be good to keep an eye on.
Also secretly, the genshin 50 : 50 isnt a 50 : 50 but like a 51.5 : 48.5 per data aggregates (in the players favor). Though that fact hasn't helped me as in the 16 times Ive reached a 50 : 50, Ive lost 12 of those. My account still slaps, but man Id love for some love from the game. I went an entire year without winning a single 50 : 50!
It sounds like they upgraded their lightcone banner in a good way compared to genshin's weapon banner. Everyone just calls it a trap in Genshin for good reason.

I was waiting for this from you, hahaha. It's so much nicer than WOTV, though Genshin is less generous in a way on a weekly basis but you can at least have an idea of what you need and can save pity, build it (both not recommended unless you are educated on that system), but its so much more convenient than 42k vis go big or go cry.
The good part is. In Genshin/HSR once you get the character the paying stops. Often for a character I'm excited for in WotV getting them is just step 1. Step 2 is getting them to 120/140 now. I usually slow cook them for the last few levels, but If i want them now I'll at least get the paid "you pulled them" pack and stuff.
@Kaisvoresce I don't even speed build anymore, I pull, trade in medals for shards and then barracks/chocobo them. I save that vis for the next cash grab unit or VC. If it's limited then I might get a few shards from shop but I am very stingy on the limited I pull for unless it's like GL EX since you know they will be back soon afterwards.
The carry over pitty is also found in arknights, which is why you actually can get quite a lot 5 stars consistently

It doesn't matter if you need to pull 18/20/30 for hard pity. What matters is how easy it is to save currency to be able to do hard pity.

one thing that you have not mentioned is the Standard banner
this banner is always available, costs the same to summon on as event banners and has only the normal 5* characters as well as their light cones on it (and all the 4* characters/cones)
the 90 summons for a guaranteed 5* is the same here, but there is no 50/50 as there is no focused character to get
it is generally recommended NOT to summon on this banner using Stellar Jade (the universal summon currency), because players can acquire summons for only this standard banner from other sources
so it is better to save jade for the event banners while only using those specific summons for the standard banner
Yeah I plan on doing a banner breakdown once I know for sure what characters on on each banner but yes, standard banner = use standard tickets only afaik

This is slightly better than Genshin's in a few ways. I don't think Gernshin has the 50/50 then guarantee on rate up 4 stars. I also believe their weapon banner works more or less like the unit banner, not with some better rates and higher odds like HSR.

As a day 1 Genshin player and a player of many other gacha games, this is one of the most friendliest pity system I've ever seen if you're aiming to get a featured 5 stars character (I can confirm that you explained it very very well 😁). However, the more the game will advance, the more complicated it can get if you're aiming for specific 4 star characters (even if they will probably end up in the general pool, as they do in Genshin) !!!

DONT TRY TO SNIPE 4*, I spent 390 wishes for 1 copy of a rate up. Inadvertently pulled 3 5* I didn't want and never use. And that was "well before pity" cost me about 120 wishes worth of pity.
The most f2p pity from my experience is PGR with the monthly log in u have enough currency to get every new character and their weapons guaranteed too f2p even without money u get still get everything but by supporting the game a bit they give u everything pretty much

Your pity basically just always counts. If you pull 30 times and never get you are +30 on pity until the next time you pull

The thing about Genshin/Mihoyo pull/pity system is that yes, you're guaranteed after 18x 10 pulls, but the thing is that Mihoyo is extremelyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy stingy on free currency they give you and the paid options are also super stingy with almost never having sales/deals.
