The fact that Aizen’s sword is nr. 1 when he has only used his Shikai, speaks volumes of how powerful it is. Would have given Azashiro’s sword a mention, because that thing is crazy OP. Solid list overall!
I don't know, it might be epic or it might be just a smaller upgrade compared to shikai, or it might be completely different from his Shikai. I really hope they show us his bankai if there is any new manga coming out.
One thing I love is how CFYOW established that Kyōka Suigetsu isn’t busted because Aizen won the Zanpakutō lottery. Because a weaker person had to keep reapplying the hypnosis aspect when copying it. Instead it shows how Zanpakutō’s strength and power are greatly influenced by their owners and he’s a monster in that aspect. The fact we have no clue what his Bankai is, is horrifying. It’s either something not really battle suited or just on a whole other level. Especially now he’s fused with it like Ichigo. I do hope the anime expands on his fight considering how brief it was
His Bankai may have been whatever really. Maybe it could see beyond any illusion and like Krona said - see the truth about the world. Or maybe it was something that let him change the reality around him into the shape of his imagination. Which could have helped make the Hogyoku. Making the illusion - into reality. Kinda what Gremmy had. But no matter how strong it was - there is one main reason why Aizen probably never used it. Even, if it was meant to be the strongest bankai in existence - it's existence directly works against the real potential of Kyōka Suigetsu. CFYOW directly mentions that you have to reapply the illusion from zero - if you were to break it. Which happened when Tokinada used other swords. That would be against Aizen's plan - just releasing his Bankai almost definitely would have released everyone from the illusion of his Shikai. Years of collecting people to put under his own spell - going nowhere. Some that he had to keep in illusion like Yamamoto. He was powerful enough without his sword, but the shikai ensured his own security. No one really knew, if he ever stood before them or was kilometer away.
Worth mentioning that Tokinada's zanpakuto is limited by his own reiatsu. As stated by Tokinada himself and Ginjo, when Tokinada used his zanpakuto to mimic zangetsu and use a point blank getsuga tensho against Ginjo, he noticed that it was a lot weaker than the original because Tokinada didn't have enough reiatsu to fuel it as much as Ichigo. And, when he mimic'd Kyoka Suigetsu to stop everyone attacking him he admitted that because he didn't have the same amount of reiatsu as Aizen he was limited in the hypnosis power, since everyone under the effect neutralized the hypnosis by simply staying put where they were.
As usual, a well thought out list which I can't really argue against.....Aizen's zanpakuto is most certainly in a league of it's own......one time exposure and you're eternally under it's effect.....combined with Aizen's massive reiastu, cunning mind and top tier shinigami abilities it's no wonder why he was such a threat to the Soul Society

The average katana weighs less than 2kg, even soul reapers like jindanbo has immense strength able to lift up the thousand of kilogram gates of the serite. Then you come to arancar or seated officer level people who’s strength is just insane. His ability is strong vs babies and humans but not in the soul society.
Ichimonji's abilities are fitting given what Ichibei and Squad Zero did to Yhwach in making him the next so called king, then rewriting the official history of the war to their rose tinted narrative. Something Shunsui, Yoruichi and others in the know find reprehensible for obvious reasons. It's chilling that a bloody lunatic like Tokinada had such powerful weapons at his disposal, then again the system abetted him with little consequence until he decided to change the worlds so there.
I reckon benihime is the most versatile zanpakuto. It csn be fired as a cero e.g. vs Ulquiorra. He can make a bloodmist shield. He can make a net with it and add hakudo on it eg vs Aizen, he can make it shoot arrows vs hollows, etc...
Rukia's bankai is a bit underrated because of its drawbacks as it's power is more limited by the strength of Rukia if she is eventually capable of instantaneously creating an area of her bankai that instantly reaches absolute zero then it is pretty damn overpowered from a physics standpoint and I am also curious if her bankai also can freeze the movement of spiritual particles (i.e reiatsu, reiryoku) because absolute zero as a concept would suggest that the temperature is so low that the movement of particles is impossible. Though this would only be theory because using it to this level would probably kill Rukia as well and also it wouldn't be a flashy attack so definitely a no go for the writers lol. Because everything even light would be frozen so basically there would be a hazy darkness then everyone is dead.
I feel like the one thing that is highly underestimated about Zangetsu is that it has practically no downsides, the only downside it has is that it has no overpowered upsides like abilities such as an element or effect on the user's enemies It also doesn't hinder Ichigo himself like Rukias Bankai which can freeze her to death, nor his allies near him such as Shunsui or Yamamoto own bankais The same can basically be said for Renji's Bankai as well
Honestly, I love all of these picks, but my FAVORITE Bankai is Gin's where he extends his blade and shortens it in an instant. Just seeing that scene where he says Bankai and all those buildings behind him get sliced in an instant was so damn cool
I’m so glad you have Zangetsu on the list. I feel like, yes it’s it can be seen as over hyped, but that hype is well deserved especially as we have followed Ichigo from the beginning. It’s a great power and I do hope that we get to see how it’s evolved if Kubo continues the Hell Arc. It would also be interesting if we get to see more if the Hell Arc becomes a reality.
To me the honorable mentions should have featured Shuei's zanpakuto, since in cfyow the reveal of his true shikai that allows him to control life death basically is already insane. But his bankai is soooooooo broken, I mean it stops the cycle of life and death to the point where every one (him included) will be sharing the same reiatsu pool until, while fighting. The pool is so empty that they die or they at least are as weak as a paper sheet. It basically means that he could defeat anyone if there is someone with him to ends his opponent. This is soooo insane.
That’s why I’m not a fan of CFYOW possibly being canon. I mean some things just don’t make sense but on the other hand some clear up things that were left on a cliff

And, acordingly to his soul, to his way of being, his zanpakûto gave him at first a shikai that kills. But Shuei was not happy about it. This is until he understood that death (in bleach) is not en end but a cycle. And so this is how he discovered that reincarnating, reviving a way or another is a part of this cycle. And this is represented by the chains, which connect the last death with a life inbeetwin. So his true shikai makes sense. It was even teased, with his trainning for kankai and then with the shot of Lille that should have killed him, but did not. So this ability seems canon to me. Then, his bankai also makes sense, beacause it is the final step : breaking the cycle of life and death until there is nothing left. And it again makes perfect sense, beacause it fits with his fear of fighting, his fear of killing. Indeed his bankai will never allow him to give the final blow, it entierly lies in the hands of his allies. So I over all, if we think of it, I think his bankai makes sense and I like it (even if at first it seemed just too much)
Much like the Death Note, no matter how broken of a power it was, Light was the reason why it was so terrifying. The way he used it.. And hence why Kyoka suigetsu will remain so fearsome.. Aizen's great intellect makes use of this hypnotizing ability in ways that catch everyone off guard ever so creatively, even Ywach who has nigh omniscience and omnipotence. One can only imagine what horrors that unknown bankai can unleash for Aizen to only use his Shikai
I would put Shuhei's at the top, because he can essentially kill anyone, either by draining the enemy and having any ally killing them or by either commiting suicide and killing anyone.
Yamas Zanpaktou is by far the strongest , it’s stated to be multiple times from all databook statements , characters like Aizen , Shunsui and Ukitake all know it to be the strongest whilst they are aware of ichibei existence , plus all of the statements of Yama being above ichibei
It might be stronger but it's not very versatile like ichibei's and it doesn't straight up kill your allies when activated ,yamas has really big downside

Not to mention Yamamoto was fooled and thought Royd was the real Yhwach, wasn’t added into the 5 War Potentials list, specifically wasn’t deemed a threat by Yhwach himself, Kubo also shows us the flashback of what happened a 1000 years ago. Guess what, it only shows Chojiro backstabbing him and Yamamoto NOT beating an Almighty Yhwach…None of those statements apply to Ichibei who exists above the Soul Society, not to mention showing superior feats on the real Yhwach instead of a fake, Yamamoto is fodder to people like Ichigo, Aizen, Yhwach, and loses to Ichibei as well.

Mayuri's Ashisogi Jizō should be one in honourable I think (at least more deserving that Byakuya's). It's power and versatility of strength shown depending on the data that had been collected during the battle to counters the opponents. And how about Azashiro's?
I remember that Genryusai himself stated (in anime at least) that Toshiro's Hyourinmaru has potential to eventually outclass his's zanpaktou. Just wanted to throw that in.
The thing with Kyouka suigetsu is that for a guy that doesn't really need a zanpakutou with his sheer reiatsu and kidou, it actually still gives Aizen extra advantage over his opponents. And he would never be defeated if not for his interest in raising Ichigo for his potential
No shocker from me. Kyoka Suigetsu still affects the victims regardless when it was cast a day or 100 years ago. It's a zanpakuto that doesn't even need raw power but absolutely messes with the victim's 5 senses. Complete hypnosis only limited by Aizen's imagination. Good luck trying to negate its ability by touching the blade itself.
One of the main issues with Kyoka Suigetsu is the opponent needs to see the blade for themselves at some point. So in theory, Tosen could take on Aizen relatively fairly, or someone who's never met aizen could go into a battle with a blindfold (which is disadvantageous, but you see my point). Still probably number one, but I feel like it's a flaw that could be exploited in the right hands.
but the problem is without Kyoka Suigetsu, Aizen could still wiped the floor with everyone. you forget to mention he's a master at Swordsmanship, he's a master in Kido, he's a master in Shunpo and Hakuda and he's incredibly intelligence added with his overwhelming reiatsu.

I was expecting Soya Azashiro's zanpakuto in the honorable mention. It is always in bankai and allows him to merge with his surroundings. Aizen even said that his Kyokasuigetsu would probably be useless against Azashiro.
Would have picked Ichigo's Zangetsu/Tensa Zangetsu as Number 1 and Kyoka Suigetsu as Number 2. If Head Captain Yamamoto was a Kryptonian, he'd easily manage his Zanka no Tachi and even use it for as long as he wants and get even stronger since Kryptonians like Superman gain their godlike power from our yellow sun.
I feel that Yamamoto has the strongest zanpakuto because of how hot his bankai is. It was nerved in the show but it is hotter than the sun's surface. Now depending on who strikes first any of these six characters could have the strongest zanpakuto. In no particular order: Tosen, Aisen, Yamamoto, Ichibe, Shunsui, and Gin. I went with six because I couldn't leave out Gin given the speak and length of his zanpakuto in shikai or bankai and also the poison he could level anyone. Tosen also has to be brought up because of the ability he used against Uryu as well as his bankai. I feel he was nerved in order to build up Kenpachi's strength his zanpakuto is op.
Some of the captains stated that in his bankai, Kenpachi would attack anyone. How do you get control on something like that? I also would love to see Ichigo after he's had time to really sit and talk things out with his dad and Zangetsu; to truly get a grasp on who and what he is. What that means. As everyone else here, I am hopeful we get to see more overall. Aizens bankai could be the complete opposite of his shikai, like Soi Fongs. I don't have any real speculation myself, but if it was more powerful than his shikai, I don't see why he wouldn't just use it. Why hide it if it's just more of the same? What if he is disgusted by it? If he felt that the bankai was inferior, then I wonder what he would feel the need to draw upon it for?

Aizen doesnt have a bankai. For what I believe there are 3 reasons why. Number 3 is head cannon. 1. Never needed it, he was cocky because he was smarter and reiatsu was massive. 2. Found out about the soul king, and went that way to gain power. Due this he was not TRYING to understand himself. Head cannon theory 3. While he was looking into the soul king,found out about the ywhbach and his technique of stealing Bankai. Okay Aizen could of been the only one to feel ywhbach reiatsu. At this time he found out Quincy use and ability to take reashi from any location. Aizen understands this and so he didnt bother using bankai because he was gonna use the hogyuku and knew his shikai ALONE can grip a person five sense easily for a massive amount of time.
Azashiro's zanpakuto even defies kyokasuigetsu.....it deserves to be there while tensa zangetsu being no.1 coz it's actual ability is to make impossible events possible

I think Ichimonji and Kyoka suigetsu tie for the #1 spot. The two of them with their versatility and power outrank the others. When it comes to a head on competition between the two of them though, it comes down to who strikes first. If Ichibe can hit Aizen with even his sealed form before Aizen can activate complete hypnosis, there goes the fight. If Aizen activates complete hypnosis first though, he wins.

I would say that Aizen's Zanpakuto is versatile but I can't help but think otherwise. I would think Ichibe's would not only outclass it but overpower it due to how it can manipulate names and thus can change the Zanpakuto's ability.
@SizzlePR in the manga, it states that Ichibe has named all things, including the zanpaktous. So he should know the true name of Aizens, even if Aizen is lying about it.

Rukia's bankai is a bit underrated because of its drawbacks as it's power is more limited by the strength of Rukia if she is eventually capable of instantaneously creating an area of her bankai that instantly reaches absolute zero then it is pretty damn overpowered from a physics standpoint and I am also curious if her bankai also can freeze the movement of spiritual particles (i.e reiatsu, reiryoku) because absolute zero as a concept would suggest that the temperature is so low that the movement of particles is impossible. Though this would only be theory because using it to this level would probably kill Rukia as well and also it wouldn't be a flashy attack so definitely a no go for the writers lol. Because everything even light would be frozen so basically there would be a hazy darkness then everyone is dead.
I feel like the one thing that is highly underestimated about Zangetsu is that it has practically no downsides, the only downside it has is that it has no overpowered upsides like abilities such as an element or effect on the user's enemies
It also doesn't hinder Ichigo himself like Rukias Bankai which can freeze her to death, nor his allies near him such as Shunsui or Yamamoto own bankais
The same can basically be said for Renji's Bankai as well

Honestly, I love all of these picks, but my FAVORITE Bankai is Gin's where he extends his blade and shortens it in an instant. Just seeing that scene where he says Bankai and all those buildings behind him get sliced in an instant was so damn cool
I’m so glad you have Zangetsu on the list. I feel like, yes it’s it can be seen as over hyped, but that hype is well deserved especially as we have followed Ichigo from the beginning. It’s a great power and I do hope that we get to see how it’s evolved if Kubo continues the Hell Arc.

To me the honorable mentions should have featured Shuei's zanpakuto, since in cfyow the reveal of his true shikai that allows him to control life death basically is already insane. But his bankai is soooooooo broken, I mean it stops the cycle of life and death to the point where every one (him included) will be sharing the same reiatsu pool until, while fighting. The pool is so empty that they die or they at least are as weak as a paper sheet. It basically means that he could defeat anyone if there is someone with him to ends his opponent.
This is soooo insane.
That’s why I’m not a fan of CFYOW possibly being canon. I mean some things just don’t make sense but on the other hand some clear up things that were left on a cliff

First, Shuei has always been represented as the perfect representation of what a shinigami is (a god of the death). And, acordingly to his soul, to his way of being, his zanpakûto gave him at first a shikai that kills. But Shuei was not happy about it. This is until he understood that death (in bleach) is not en end but a cycle. And so this is how he discovered that reincarnating, reviving a way or another is a part of this cycle. And this is represented by the chains, which connect the last death with a life inbeetwin.
So his true shikai makes sense. It was even teased, with his trainning for kankai and then with the shot of Lille that should have killed him, but did not. So this ability seems canon to me.
Then, his bankai also makes sense, beacause it is the final step : breaking the cycle of life and death until there is nothing left. And it again makes perfect sense, beacause it fits with his fear of fighting, his fear of killing. Indeed his bankai will never allow him to give the final blow, it entierly lies in the hands of his allies.
So I over all, if we think of it, I think his bankai makes sense and I like it (even if at first it seemed just too much)
Much like the Death Note, no matter how broken of a power it was, Light was the reason why it was so terrifying. The way he used it.. And hence why Kyoka suigetsu will remain so fearsome.. Aizen's great intellect makes use of this hypnotizing ability in ways that catch everyone off guard ever so creatively, even Ywach who has nigh omniscience and omnipotence. One can only imagine what horrors that unknown bankai can unleash for Aizen to only use his Shikai
I would put Shuhei's at the top, because he can essentially kill anyone, either by draining the enemy and having any ally killing them or by either commiting suicide and killing anyone.

Yamas Zanpaktou is by far the strongest , it’s stated to be multiple times from all databook statements , characters like Aizen , Shunsui and Ukitake all know it to be the strongest whilst they are aware of ichibei existence , plus all of the statements of Yama being above ichibei
It might be stronger but it's not very versatile like ichibei's and it doesn't straight up kill your allies when activated ,yamas has really big downside

The thing with Kyouka suigetsu is that for a guy that doesn't really need a zanpakutou with his sheer reiatsu and kidou, it actually still gives Aizen extra advantage over his opponents. And he would never be defeated if not for his interest in raising Ichigo for his potential

No shocker from me. Kyoka Suigetsu still affects the victims regardless when it was cast a day or 100 years ago. It's a zanpakuto that doesn't even need raw power but absolutely messes with the victim's 5 senses. Complete hypnosis only limited by Aizen's imagination. Good luck trying to negate its ability by touching the blade itself.

One of the main issues with Kyoka Suigetsu is the opponent needs to see the blade for themselves at some point. So in theory, Tosen could take on Aizen relatively fairly, or someone who's never met aizen could go into a battle with a blindfold (which is disadvantageous, but you see my point).
Still probably number one, but I feel like it's a flaw that could be exploited in the right hands.
but the problem is without Kyoka Suigetsu, Aizen could still wiped the floor with everyone. you forget to mention he's a master at Swordsmanship, he's a master in Kido, he's a master in Shunpo and Hakuda and he's incredibly intelligence added with his overwhelming reiatsu.

I was expecting Soya Azashiro's zanpakuto in the honorable mention. It is always in bankai and allows him to merge with his surroundings. Aizen even said that his Kyokasuigetsu would probably be useless against Azashiro.
Aizens zanpakuto is OP since his bankai is never shown he probably could actually warp reality with it i think that would be a nice power.

Would have picked Ichigo's Zangetsu/Tensa Zangetsu as Number 1 and Kyoka Suigetsu as Number 2. If Head Captain Yamamoto was a Kryptonian, he'd easily manage his Zanka no Tachi and even use it for as long as he wants and get even stronger since Kryptonians like Superman gain their godlike power from our yellow sun.
I feel that Yamamoto has the strongest zanpakuto because of how hot his bankai is. It was nerved in the show but it is hotter than the sun's surface. Now depending on who strikes first any of these six characters could have the strongest zanpakuto. In no particular order: Tosen, Aisen, Yamamoto, Ichibe, Shunsui, and Gin. I went with six because I couldn't leave out Gin given the speak and length of his zanpakuto in shikai or bankai and also the poison he could level anyone. Tosen also has to be brought up because of the ability he used against Uryu as well as his bankai. I feel he was nerved in order to build up Kenpachi's strength his zanpakuto is op.

I also would love to see Ichigo after he's had time to really sit and talk things out with his dad and Zangetsu; to truly get a grasp on who and what he is. What that means.

Aizens bankai could be the complete opposite of his shikai, like Soi Fongs. I don't have any real speculation myself, but if it was more powerful than his shikai, I don't see why he wouldn't just use it. Why hide it if it's just more of the same? What if he is disgusted by it?

Aizen doesnt have a bankai. For what I believe there are 3 reasons why. Number 3 is head cannon.
1. Never needed it, he was cocky because he was smarter and reiatsu was massive.
2. Found out about the soul king, and went that way to gain power. Due this he was not TRYING to understand himself.

3. While he was looking into the soul king,found out about the ywhbach and his technique of stealing Bankai.
Okay Aizen could of been the only one to feel ywhbach reiatsu. At this time he found out Quincy use and ability to take reashi from any location. Aizen understands this and so he didnt bother using bankai because he was gonna use the hogyuku and knew his shikai ALONE can grip a person five sense easily for a massive amount of time.

I think Ichimonji and Kyoka suigetsu tie for the #1 spot. The two of them with their versatility and power outrank the others.
When it comes to a head on competition between the two of them though, it comes down to who strikes first. If Ichibe can hit Aizen with even his sealed form before Aizen can activate complete hypnosis, there goes the fight. If Aizen activates complete hypnosis first though, he wins.

I would say that Aizen's Zanpakuto is versatile but I can't help but think otherwise. I would think Ichibe's would not only outclass it but overpower it due to how it can manipulate names and thus can change the Zanpakuto's ability.

@SizzlePR in the manga, it states that Ichibe has named all things, including the zanpaktous. So he should know the true name of Aizens, even if Aizen is lying about it.

And also Ichibe had not seen Aizen release his zanpaktou either, unlike the gotei 13 have. So Aizen wouldn't be able to use at the beginning of their fight anyways. Honestly what I think would put Aizen over ichibe is the hogyoku. I understand your bias though. In my perfect bleach universe Kenpachi slaps everyone, lol.
