Karl Lagerfeld should be heralded as one of the best (if not the best) fashion designers/artists/creative Gods/photographers.
I love Karl Lagerfield. He embodies class all the way. Truly the best of the best.

@rumrunner777 it's because he is a genius and i dont use that term lightly. if you have the inclination, view some of his haute couture collections and you can see what a true artist he is.

Nothing is wrong really. He is very intelligent and has character. About the glasses, it's for a kind of protection, it's not easy to be a celebrity with everyone's eyes on you all the time and no one expects you to fail in any way. Besides he is German :P

This second part of the sentence is perhaps even more important than the first one.
I think it can be a fashion statement. I'm not a huge fan of his small eyes, he does not look as iconic.
In fact he wore glasses because of his small eyes that he didn't like that mother had complexed him like for his hands and he took the opportunity to take power naps behind them.

He's absolutely correct .....and he should know since he lives a genuinely luxurious life. But even rarer than people who live luxurious lives, are people who have genuinely exquisite taste.
He has great insight in economics too about the copy of luxury.
There is an economist called Steven Chueng.
He said copies help the brand to promote its products and once the people get rich, they would buy the real one, and that people will not expect the copy as the one with quality- luxury is exclusive because of its unique quality.
I'm old-school ~ prefer newspapers and paperback books.
He is so much more than fashion, the man is geniunely wise about life, that's what makes him a legend.

There's a simple thing called The Art of the Interview, and few people these days are willing to to the work, and homework, before an interview. Major talk shows don't have the time or interest to read and author's book before interviewing the writer. Their "interview" is really just a chat, and intentionally is kept shallow and brief.
If you want to see some good interviewers here on RUclips, search Dick Cavett, Charlie Rose, and most people from National Public Radio(NPR).

i think the point is people like to think that they are living in the life of luxury because theyve taken out bank loans and scrimped and saved for a chanel bag or a luxury product, or if they cant afford the real thing then buy a fake then try to pass it off as the real thing, just to exude that air of importance when all you are is someone wearing a fake product, luxury is afforded to the few people who can afford the high price tag it isnt for everyone just because people want the life of luxury it doesnt mean it can afforded
The irony of what he is saying, that you have to keep up with the times or you become vintage, but then also saying he doesn't like reading a screen and would rather read a paper.

ciyean I get what you're saying lol, but I think the reason he doesn't like screens is just simply his personal preference. He obviously appreciates and admires modern technology. I mean hell, he even compared them to art. I think the vintage thing was referring to older people who bash on iPads/smartphones/whatever simply because they are new, instead of giving modern technology the credit it deserves.

+ciyean exactly i was so surprised and a bit disappointing that is how he feels about the internet. I think he is too old to really view the internet on what its doing and how its affecting society but it seems he just views it as some thing outside of his perceptions. Marketing is pretty vital in the success of selling products an being profit so a company can survive; i would hope this would change for the survival of Chanel in the future.
I think what Karl means is that reading on paper allows him to use his imagination, perhaps when in deep thoughts. On a computer screen, there are many other visuals to distract us, such as symbols, icons, scroll bars, menu bars, graphics, photos, pop up windows, etc. and that sometimes distract us from our imagination. His fashion business, however, needs to keep up with technologies, trends, and social media to stay relevant.

So what he's saying that to own a Chanel bag you must be stupid rich.. Or you shouldn't own it..
What he doesn't understand is that to own a Chanel bag or clothes you have to be rich...and not all rich people who can afford the Chanel line, have private jets but yet live very luxurious lives etc...
I believe that he is saying that people mistake having a handbag as being luxurious. It's only one part of the package, the private jets and such are the rest. It doesn't have much to do with who should be allowed to own the bag specifically.

He clearly means that very few people actually ever experience true luxury -- buying a $5000 handbag may be considered extravagantly luxurious for a middle-class person, but to women who have wardrobes filled with made-to-order Chanel Haute Couture, a production-line Chanel handbag is not exactly high-living. He is simply saying there is an entire world above and beyond the branded and marketed products affluent middle-class people consume as status symbols.
I get that they are status symbols to some people, but for the most part fashion regardless of the label is meant to be consumed, regardless of the price. People like what they like, they are going to buy what they want.
