    Elisabeth, thank you very much for this very important topic. Just on time! I particularly appreciate the summary about why Hell has to exist logically starting at 11:47 Indeed, many people are uncertain about the existence of Hell which is what makes your video particularly valuable. Happy Palm Sunday! 😘❤🌹

    Thomas Merton says, on Hell, "Hell is where no one has anything in common with anybody else except the fact that they all hate one another and cannot get away from one another and from themselves. They are all thrown together in the fire and each one tries to thrust the others away from him with a huge, impotent hatred. And the reason they want to be free of one another is not so much that they hate what they see in others, as that they know others hate what they see in them: and all recognise in one another what they detest in themselves, selfishness and impotence, agony, terror and despair. The tree is known by its fruits. If you want to understand the social and political history of modern man, study he'll." (Another excellent video ❤ thanks. )

    Wow! What a great book review and summary! I can tell the author is very knowledgeable and how he writes is fascinating, clear and to the point. I appreciate your honesty by mentioning you were a little fearful about reading the book because of the topic. You demonstrated the importance of being in the proper mindset!
    It’s so interesting about considering the full capacity of evil inside of us. I think this is why christ Jesus instituted the Sacrament of Confession. The dark secret thoughts are definitely what we should be confessing about too.
    The whole description the author makes about what is hell is so fascinating! The best I’ve heard thus far. Thank you again for your thoughts and opinion on another great topic.😊🧁

    Hello Elisabeth, thanks for ur review.
    Beauty is somethings that draws to contemplation.
    It has three attributes: symmetry (e.g. face), completion (it is finished) and clearness (if I do not know what it is, it can't be beautiful - e.g. modern art). I think st. Thomas Aquinass is teaching this.
    According to Dostoevsky: Beauty will save the world.

    Always useful to meditate on the last four things, thanks for another book to add to my TBR list. If you haven't checked it I reccomend St. Gregory of Nyssa's "The life of Moses", it's really good to see how to use the 4 senses of Scripture to read meaning out of the Bible. I think you'll like how creative he is with his allegories!

    "...when the individual spiritual being leaves the body at the time of death, it immediately returns to the Universal Intellect, so that there is no separate survival after death. However, that which, in this life, confers an 'ego-ic' limitation on the infinite light of the Intellect, is not the body, but the soul. Now the soul survives after separation from the body, even when, in this life, it was entirely oriented towards the body and indeed appeared to have no other content than this. This is the reason for the agonies suffered by souls that have been wholly oriented towards the body, when they leave the body." Alchemy, by Titus Burckhardt

    I think true beauty isn't hidden by modesty. True beauty isn't sensual or sexual, but the beauty of a soul for example. The beauty of truth, of goodness, of love.
    Truth and beauty are related because, for example, a beautiful painting has proper proportions and symmetry, whereas a caricature has false proportions - distortions. Truth is beautiful.
    That's the best way I can explain my thoughts there lol

  • @ullyesses-v1984
    @ullyesses-v1984 Год назад

    Elisabeth, let me take an (off the cuff) stab at "Beauty". If we start from the apriori basis that "God is Love" then we can look at "Truth" as being the rational expression of pure Love, "Goodness" is the moral expression for pure Love, and "Beauty" is the sensory expression of pure Love. I wish I could point you to a source for where I got that and I've probably muddled it but I hope it helps.

    Warum machen Österreicher englische Kanäle, wo wir es im deutschsprachigen Raum so bitternötig hätten solche Kanäle zu haben, da wir um Lichtjahre zurück liegen?

      Ich kann Ihnen insoweit zustimmen, als dass es wenig sinnvoll wäre, als Österreicher einen englischsprachigen Kanal zu betreiben zu dessen Thema es bereits andere erfolgreiche englischsprachige Kanäle gibt - da wäre ein deutschsprachiger Kanal natürlich sinnvoller. Nun ist es in meinem Fall so, dass es mir nicht darum ging einfach einen katholischen Kanal zu haben sondern ich spezifisch über christliche/katholische Bücher sprechen wollte und da es einen derartigen Kanal nicht einmal auf Englisch gibt, ist es zweckmäßiger den Kanal auf Englisch zu machen, da man damit ein internationales (und damit das größtmögliche) Publikum anspricht. Wie Anna außerdem richtig gesagt hat, ist der Anteil der Englisch sprechenden Österreicher besonders hoch (siehe zB jakubmarian.com/map-of-the-percentage-of-people-speaking-english-in-the-eu-by-country/)
      Sie haben auch damit recht, dass der deutschsprachige Raum christliche/katholische Kanäle nötig hat. Ich versuche es immer wieder, andere junge Österreicher dazu zu ermutigen, einen solchen Kanal zu starten. Vielleicht kennen Sie ja selbst jemanden der das gut und gerne machen würde. Ich könnte der Person Tipps geben wie man sowas am Anfang angehen könnte 😊
      Frohe und gesegnete Ostern!

    Did God know before the Big Bang who would go to Hell and why they would go there? And knowing that God only does good, how could Creation be perfectly good if it resulted in the eternal torture of those he lovingly created and sustained, and desired to bring to perfection?
    To God, all of time is present, the beginning and the end are one in the same. If the beginning is all good, must not the final end, the final destiny of all Creation be good?
    Btw, I say this as someone who believes in God and the Church's teaching in the final things.

      @@BiblicalBookworm I believe in Heaven, Hell and Purgatory.
      I believe the saints are in Heaven, interceding on our behalf.
      I believe that many, if not almost all, must pass through purification after death and that we can pray for these souls.
      I believe that all creation will be unified to the Trinity (apokatastasis), as 'Christ will be all in all' (2 Corinthians).
      'God desires that all shall be saved and have a perfect knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy). The Lord, being almighty, all-knowing, all-good and perfectly free will accomplish this for his glory.
      Those, like St. Thomas and John Calvin, who teach that the souls suffering in Hell for eternity, bring glory to God as a manifestation of his justice, seem to me to imagine a God who is a creative sadist.
      In Buddhism, the Bodhisattva descends into the many levels of Hell to compassionately rescue the souls of sinners.
      Do we have a less compassionate Saviour?
      Christ descended in Abraham's Bosom for the righteous dead. Will he not provide sufficient grace for his children to repent of all evil at the hour of their death?
      I believe, yes.
      So, obviously, I'm a universalist. But I don't think universalism is a soft position. We must be crucified before we rise in Christ.
      This necessarily entails death to self, repentance and an acceptance of Jesus's gift of salvation. How God accomplishes all these things is a Mystery.
      But God gets what he desires and not those who do not love their enemies.

    • @PeterRiello
      @PeterRiello 6 месяцев назад

      @@PaxMundi118 You cannot be a universalist if you follow Church teaching. Universalists believe that the salvation of all people is certain. The Church teaches that we have free will to reject God and thus His salvation. I would encourage you to pray about this if it causes you trouble.

    • @PaxMundi118
      @PaxMundi118 6 месяцев назад

      @@PeterRiello Saint Augustine identified 7 schools of universalism as existing in the 4th century. He only identified apokatastasis, as formulated by Origen, as a heresy.
      The Catholic Church has never declared universalism as a heresy and, in fact, Church teaching goes a step further in the sense that apokatastasis has never been identified as a heresy.
      If you find any statements in the Catechism that contradict this, please feel free to inform me...
      What you are referring to as the certainty that all people will be saved is sometimes called "hard universalism." There is also confident universalism, which makes a softer claim. "Hopeful universalism," which was the position of Pope Benedict XVI and JP2's theological hero, Cardinal Hans Urs Von Balthasar, is also the belief of the current Pontiff..
      Indeed, I would ask you, why would you not hope that all shall be saved, especially if this is God's explicit desire in Scripture? To hope that any are eternally damned is very troubling.
      If you think that some are inevitably damned (Pope Benedict XVI thought only a few were damned), then you are not bound to this doctrine by Church teaching.
      It may be your exegesis of the Bible, or your evaluation of Church tradition, on which you base the inevitability of the eternally damned, but you would have to defend this. You can't just assume it..
      The letters of St. Paul are full of apparently universalistic verses and passages and themes. I can list some, if you are curious. The infernalistic passages are usually gleaned from the Gospels (written after St. Paul, but given primacy). However, in my best understanding these texts are often misunderstood and it's a rather lengthy conversation I'd be happy to engage in.
      There are also universalistic passages in the Old Testament. And "the Father of the Church Fathers," Gregory of Nyssa, was a universalist (and a Scriptural genius).

    • @PaxMundi118
      @PaxMundi118 6 месяцев назад

      Also, with regard to free will. Freedom, not libertarian free will (which does not exist) consists in choosing the good. Sin, on the other hand, is slavery.
      If and when we are truly free from the evils of original sin, venial sin, and mortal sin and we are presented with the choice of the perfectly Good, True and Beautiful, what would our authentic free will choose, especially at "the hour of our death"?
      I think it is rationally to believe any free creature would choose the Good over an eternity of hellish slavery.
      But if your position is that God never grants us that freedom, then we are all doomed.

    Modesty does not hide beauty. Shame was a consequence of the disobedience and self-gratifying actions of Adam and Eve which is why they later hid and clothed themselves. In our reality, modesty serves 4 purposes. Respecting those around you, respecting your husband or wife, eliminating your involvement in sexual enticement, as well as preserving "shame". A shameless world moves away from God as in the context of Gods will, shame keeps us humble, respectful of others, selfless, obedient, careful, intentional, devout, and holy.

    • @BiblicalBookworm
      @BiblicalBookworm  Год назад

      I agree with you insofar as modesty serves the 4 purposes named by you. But I would complete that list with the purpose of higlighting and preserving the dignity of the person.
      Also, if we say that humans/human bodies are beautiful (even if someone was to hold the position that only some humans/human bodies are beautiful) then modesty hides beauty.

  • @robertmontoya8915

    Well that is interesting, I once heard a priest say that when we sin we can't recognize beauty. We can find beauty in suffering which is a mystery of Faith. Faith gives us a reason why we experience our existence. The soul can feel fire but it can't be destroyed; it belongs to God. We are souls imparted.

    It seems to me the carrot and stick is what got much of the world to believe in these sects, especially the stick. The three most successful religions are Christianity Islam and Buddhism. They all have eternal or very long hells. To the masses who fear death, giving them an additional fear of a fate worse than death certainly would compel a fearful primitive person into these sects and maintains whole nations under its spell. To me, the core doctrine of any religion or sect is its doctrine on the afterlife and its hells in particular. When I was a Christian it certainly was the most important part of the religion and I’m sure I’m not alone.
