Its always a joy to watch your videos, keep it up Elisabeth! Good job! And I forgot who said this quote but it helped me greatly "Jesus Christ sacrificed His perfect life not to free us from suffering but to transform suffering into the currency of redemption." It was one of the things that led to my conversion into Catholicism. God bless you!
As usual, great review and summary. Yes, I have found that Saint Teresa has a very enjoyable writing style. I do not know why there are no movies about her life originally made in English. They're all subtitled. Yes, most people honor money. Dima
Very good topic , a strong man or women do not complain or blame they just accept what ever life throws at them with a heart of love for God. 😊very hard to do when everything seens to be breaking you down but turn the other cheek and it will get better we pray
Thank you for this! I still haven’t finished Interior Castle. I find your videos very helpful for when I do read this one. Also did you know in Buddhist practice they also believe in detachment because of almost the same reasoning? It really does help and is timeless advice.
I thought Buddhism was talking about detachment from all things and all desires. As to where Catholicism is detachment from sin and to increase desire for holiness. Or to "rightly order your desires to God." But, I don't know much about Buddhism, what do you think?
The place where Buddhism and Christianity differ is where Saint Teresa talks about accepting poverty and, more importantly, why. Buddhism teaches the middle-way and detachment which is, in practice, equally ascetic, but philosophically does not see the virtue in humility and meekness as an end in and of itself. Rather, Buddhism sees humility and meekness as means to the end of abolishing suffering. The virtues, in Buddhism, are only utilities to abolish suffering and posses no inherent value on their own. The ultimate end of Buddhism is Nirvana where the individual ceases to exist and therefore can possess no virtues or personality traits as opposed to Christianity where the individual continues to exist and therefore may possess virtues. So, Buddhism believes in the contentment part but contentment is merely a means to dissolve oneself into nothingness. The less attached one is to the world; partly through stoic contentment, the more one is capable of the spiritual suicide that is Nirvana. Yet, Christianity wants us to be virtuous and noble servants of God. That ultimately these traits make us loving, kind, and perfect. Buddhism has basically no regard for the character of the individual and also sees the primary and overwhelming condition of life as suffering which is apparently so bad, nothing can justify enduring suffering in the ultimate. Not love, not beauty, not friendship, not art, nothing. This is, in large part, why I am not a Buddhist and after being spiritual-but-not-religious and flirting with Buddhism, I came back to Christianity.@@billie5057
You give a wonderful summary at the end Elisabeth! I wonder if another way of looking at detachment is God separating us from the idols in our lives? Things like money, power, prestige can have a strong hold on us and can become a source of focus for us rather than a focus on God. Anyway these are just some thoughts. Once again thank you for all that you do! God bless you! 🙏
Thank you my sister for your videos they are very informative I have some of these books and look forward to reading them, I'm glad I came across your channel. May GOD'S peace be upon you.
"Striving for Happiness" to me, always sounds like "Fighting for Peace"...an oxymoron. Ever tried to get someone or an animal to like you? They seem to do the opposite, that is, move away or worse, get annoyed with you. Ever done the opposite and ignored them? You somehow become attractable. It's a weird paradox, but it has been talked about in psychology for a while now that "happiness" is a by-product and arrives in it's own good time when you let go of attachment and wanting things to be a certain way.
He who best knoweth how to suffer shall possess the most peace; that man is the conqueror of himself and lord of the world, the friend of Christ, and the inheritor of heaven. Thomas Kempis

And thanks for sharing this beautiful quote!
God bless you too!
I was reading about the life of St Rose of Lima and there was a quote ‘pains are prayers we offer to God’ and it changed me.
Awesome. Alleluia
She together with Therese of Lisieux are the best religious books I’ve read beside the Bible
I think happiness can be measured in imagination. I value it.

I don’t know if you’ve read him but I highly recommend you read some works by Fyodor Dostoevsky, particularly his work Crime and Punishment.
Thank you for the recommendation! The thing is that I only read non-fiction books
It's one thing to say what you think of the book but another what you think about her advice.
I am very sorry to ask. Where did you get your necklace? Thank you.
No need to be sorry. I think it's from amazon. I got it from my parents when I graduated high school.
When did that happen last week? You look so youthful ❤️

If we have to suffer , we will suffer well.
🙏
'Teresa of Avila' was as crazy as the rest of those hysterical repressed nuns having 'visions' (hallucinations).
Personal stance is to strive for the joy of Lord , not the peace that the world gives.
It's not all lollipops and unicorns ...
Amen!
Thank you so much for the video
