  • Welcome to the January edition of my Deep Sky Astrophotography Target Guide for the Northern Hemisphere. It is designed to help you choose what targets to image in January (of any year). I plan to release a video like this every month until all 12 months are complete. There is a separate User Guide video aimed at helping you get the most from the monthly guides (see link at the end of the video). Enjoy!

Thanks so much Robert. I really appreciate it when people go to the trouble of commenting, especially when it’s so positive! Clear Skies.

Thank you Martin, I was looking forward to this one, especially as the clouds seem to go away (probably jinxed it now lol).
Will you be looking at that comet that everyone is talking about?

Yes, if the sky is clear enough I am going to try and photograph the comet: C/2020 E3 (ZTF)

Great, superb work and an excellent guide.
Is there any possibility of a version for those of us in the Southern Hemisphere 😢?

Thanks! Almost all of my viewers are in the U.K. or the USA. It is an enormous amount of work to produce these 12 videos. Sadly I think it’s just not worth it for the number of people that will actually watch them. So sorry. However….I am looking at making my planning tool (that I use to make the videos) available for purchase in the not too distant future. This would be even better as you can include your own local horizon. If and when I release the tool for purchase, I will publish a video on this channel about it. Clear skies!

I'm so desperate I was out with my astro-binos looking through light cloud at the moon the other night. Even on a slightly clearer night the atmosphere is so busy this year that I can only get to around 88x on my 8 inch SCT and I start loosing lots of detail. Last year around this time I had a couple nights where I was viewing in the 400-500x range. I'm hoping the weather gods give me a repeat.

@@KaidenBainAstro I feel for you. I'm going through the same thing here.
I wish us both clear skies soon. Take care.
