Good for you AB. I was a juvenile Probation Officer since 2003. I just retired (disability) in 2018. The majority of these kids are salvageable, if caught early and taken out of the environment that puts them there. True, you have some that are just bad, but majority is the family, and environment that contributes to their delinquency. Sad part is, you placed them in a treatment facility and when released they return to the same environment; just like adults. But, we cannot blame it all on the parents. I had parents that were awesome, but the state and federal government take parental authority away with their child protective laws, such as, I had one parent who jerked his daughter out of the backseat of an adult she was having sex with, and the father goes to jail for assaulting his daughter. Sometimes it’s crazy, but never ending. I had a 15 year old on probation for CHINS offenses (something legal for adults but not juveniles, like skipping school, smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol). Anyway, he had a wonderful father, who was a paraplegic from a car accident. The child abused that freedom. He went from CHINS offenses to burglary. He and 3 others broke in a soldiers house, who had only been home 1 week from Iraq; my juvie put him on his knees and shot him in his head...no reason. No lie., His name is Brandon Hammond (Bell County, TX), 20 to life at 16. Our juveniles are lost.
