React to the Bunny the bears 😍😍😍
This is my Summer Starter Song, baybee!!
You should try the Swedish band Ghost! Dance macabre, Cerice or Life eternal. If you haven't done that you have a journey to make 😀. /Robert from Sweden
PS Love your voice DS
Of course Birgit Nilsson is probably more youre thing....
I've made several suggestions and you seem to make it a point to ignore them. I will just unsubscribe.
Carlos Santana is the master of melody, he has proven you don't have to set the volume knob on 10 to get your point across. A true musical genius.
React to the Bunny the bears 😍😍😍
Wonderfully said Kurt..
......but these knobs fo to 11
Tone.....!
The reason he sounds different in the verses is because he was singing through a megaphone, which kind of with other effects, muted and somewhat distorted his voice so to the natural ear. It just sounds weird not having that live.
Rob Thomas wrote the song with his wife Marisol in mind. In the official video, she plays the Lady to whom he is singing the song.
Rob Thomas took a song someone else wrote and changed the lyrics.
@@rat4spd According to Wikipedia, the song was started by Itaal Shur and then, without the original lyrics, given to Rob Thomas for completion. I understand that he not only wrote new lyrics, but also changed the melody. Originally, he suggested George Michael as singer. But after hearing the demo, Carlos Santana wanted him to sing the song himself.
Yes, I love sings dedicated to wives and unborn children (creed arms wide open). I love Rob thomas is so adorable and fine, I love his artistry.
You talked about this bringing you back to your childhood. Hearing Santana's guitar again brought me back to first hearing the Abraxas album in the fall of 1970. I was long out of childhood by then but still a kid at heart. Good to feel that way again! And happy to see that this kind of music can still excite young people half a century down the line. 🌛
Abraxas was a great album i was 18 in 1970
@@johnbethell1952 I was 27. Abraxas and Cosmos Factory and Let It Bleed and some others got played a LOT
I was driving my kids to school the first time I heard this and I looked at my daughter and said, "That's Santana!" It had beed over decades since I had heard one of his songs. It was the guitar! No one had that signature and it was unmistakable. I loved him when I was in High School, but here I was probably 20 years later and I was transported back. You are right, This is one of the happiest songs ever written. Can't sit still.
I am 74 and I agree...One of the BEST songs EVER!!!!
Carlos Santana has so much swag it should be illegal!
LOVE Rob, Santana, and Matchbox 20. Nothing you can dislike about this performance.
I love this live version. I get the real man with so much soul in his delivery.
There's a story out there that when Rob was pitching this song to Santana that Carlos stopped him at the line "change my life to better suit your mood." He asked Rob if he was married to an Hispanic woman and Rob responded that he was. Carlos answered that he could tell by that line. Can't vouch that it's a true story but it sounds like it might be.
Yeah, heard that one too. Also that Rob originally pitched it as having someone else sing on it, but Carlos insisted he sing it.
Carlos Humberto Santana Barragán (Autlán de Navarro, Jalisco, July 20, 1947) is a Mexican nationalized American guitarist. In 1966 he founded the Santana band, a pioneer in fusing Latin music with rock.
Santana has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide (counting the sales of his band and his solo career). He has won ten Grammy Awards and three Latin Grammy Awards. He is married to Cindy Blackman, known for being a drummer for Lenny Kravitz. His brother Jorge Santana was also a musician, recognized for being one of the founders of the group Malo.34
In 2003, Rolling Stone magazine ranked him 20th on its list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time;5 he was subsequently ranked 90th on its prestigious "100 Greatest Artist of All Time" list. "6 Also, with Santana, his albums Santana (1969) and Abraxas (1970) are part of the 500 best albums of all time, being he the producer and main composer.7 He is also part of the list of the Top 100 Artists of All Time, ranking 9
I can listen to anything by Carlos Santana. His musicality is so rich and soothing.
I first remember listening to Santana from recordings from Woodstock. I went on a binge of buying every album he ever put out. Love his sound. It was so original in the late 60s early 70s and it still is. Cover some more of his stuff such as "Soul Sacrifice" or "Black Magic Woman" . They are truly remarkable.
How good do you have to be to be in a band with Carlos Santana??? Pretty freaking good!
So glad you played this live version. Have seen Santana live numerous times and it's always AWESOME. Check out the beautiful stage and backdrop, the group of very talented musicians and array of numerous instruments. AND THE CROWD! Always a very diverse crowd with everyone dancing together in camaraderie and friendship! I always leave with such a wonderful feeling!
I know you were a little disappointed with Mr. Thomas's singing, but I have seen this song performed many times, sometimes with other singers, and Rob Thomas adds an electricity to it that is unmatched. Maybe because he wrote it.
Loved your reaction to this living legend that is SANTANA! He has enlightened my life with wonderful music for over 50 years now. All the way back to the first Woodstock!
Check out his Supernatural release. Packed with great artists and great music!
Your reactions are always amazing. You are right that the key was a little low for Rob Thomas in this song. This is actually a song that I have covered before. Granted, it was many years ago. It is a very fun song to sing, but you definitely have to have that lower register to be able to pull it off fully. Thank you so much for reacting to this video. You really brought back my childhood.
His voice sounds fine, they used a filter for the verses on the studio version...which in '99 they couldn't do live.
One of my great, personal moments in my life was when I was working as a stagehand in San Diego and got to not only meet, but smoke a little of the devil's lettuce with Carlos Santana. That was many many moons ago.
Matchbox 20 was the sht in the 90s. Love Rob Thomas. Dude could write some songs for sure.
Oh man, Santana will have us all dancing, no matter what he's playing! He's a genius! 🔥🤯💯
You're right, Rob doesn't sound so good here. The magic done in recording studios is amazing!
Thanks for picking this one!
Another Santana collaboration that was amazing was from the early 90s. The Healer with the blues legend John Lee Hooker. Fantastic!
This is one of my favorites from way back in the day. Thank you for playing this and bringing back a song I love so much!
Carlos is genius! He has command of the guitar like no other.
I saw Santana live with a best of concert. The man is a legend. He can make a guitar sing like few others.
This is the original key. I always thought the verses were too low for Rob, which made it hard for him to give it vocal character. But the song requires a bit more vocal range than Rob can do well, so he made it work for him.
It's because they put a filter on his voice for the studio version.
Carlos Santana born in Mexico in Jalisco and he was a latino rock member since 70’s
One of my favorite bands and the song, love it and Rob Thomas voice✨😀💃💃💃💃
Love this song. That was the ultimate summer jam for that entire summer!
Alwayes loved his music, seen him many times when he was in San Francisco. Right in my back yard.
thumbs up for even singing the guitar part! :)
You're missing something important about Rob Thomas's approach to singing this song: He's creeping. The song is about an overwhelming obsession with a woman that he doesn't think returns his passion equally.
OMG, Carlos threw in a Santana jam at the end. Magnifico!
No. Creeping is about imposing one's affections on a woman irrespective of her feelings; creepers don't change themselves, they expect (demand!) to be accepted by their love interest as-is. The modern take on this song would be its an anthem about simping ("change my life to better suit your moods"); but it is also about expecting a fair return on the (considerable) effort being put forth. A one-sided relationship is never fun, there is a point to the demand that you picked up on. As opposed to just being demanding.
Was his wife,
He sounds great!
Carlos Santana has said in previous interviews that, when Rob Thomas shared the lyrics with him, he wondered how it was that Rob knew about Hispanic culture - specifically, what a "Muñequita" was.
Then he met Rob's wife, and it all made sense.
As far as I know Carlos Santana is a Mexican musician born in Autlán de Navarra, Jalisco, México. Later on he became estadounidense. His music has that influence.
So much fun to watch you really getting into it! Love it!!
it's missing EFX. The studio engineered song has parts using the old school radio effect and the transitions are to deeper resonant echo/reverb/delay to produce a richer sound tone. Great channel Maggie!
Billboard has this song as #2 on its list of the most popular pop songs of all time
I feel like Rob Thomas sounds exactly the same it just doesn't come through as clearly because in the verses he kind of sings quietly when it gets the chorus he finally ups the volume of singing
Saying Rob Thomas isn't as good live as in studio is sacrilege. Dude is pitch perfect.
Carlos Santana, 'nuf said 🌛
A very productive break Maggie!! Some great reactions! Got to luv us some Santana!!
New subscriber here! There is no better way to start my day than listening to Santana! ❤ I love Santana, ❤ and really appreciate your style. The fact that you take a little time to educate yourself and your audience about the artist. Every time I hear Santana I am instantly in a great mood. Thank you! 🎶🕺💃🎶🕺💃🎶🕺💃🎶🕺💃🎶
saw him in concert, 7 rows back, deaf for two weeks, loved it every second
Best reaction to this song ever ☺
🙏💟🙏
This is a classic and makes you move from the first notes played. It’s one of those pieces that makes me teary because it’s SO beautiful! I get like that when I see or hear performances, sings, dances that are extremely soul touching.
Best of this video, Maggie dancing, second: Santana's guitar, out of this world, third: the song, loved this so much, yessss!!! 🎸🎸🌛🌛
Seen Carlos twice in venues about this size and it was mind-blowing. If you ever get a chance, you should definately see him. Love the review, and thanks for your Christmas song: it was lovely. Hope your life is delighting you as much as you delight your fans. Love ya!
Really appreciate that you investigated and informed your audience about the song, band and members. Also loved your appreciation of this classic song 🎵 ❤ 💕
this was around the same time Santana was doing collabs with other great artists. And every song was just as good as this one.
Hello beautyful Lady, i love Carlos Santana ! For me his the very very very very best of all, every woman listen him play Gitarre 🎸 must fall in love with him ! Greatings from germany ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤
Hello to Germany! Glad you enjoyed my reaction video and thank you for your comment! 😊
Carlos Santana was born on July 20, 1947, in Autlán de Navarro, Mexico.
On the recording and in the video there's a lo-fi effect to make his voice sound like it's coming through a radio. The choruses are done without the effect, so that part sounds more familiar to you.
Please note Carlos plays a Paul Reed Smith guitar - Hand crafted in Maryland. Carlos is a guitar icon - One of the best of the best. Smooth is for his playing....
If you think rob isn’t good live you have another thing coming…… this was at the Grammys….. they are known for mediocre sets and sound design. Rob live with his band (matchbox 20) is an incredible performer . Notice how Santana didn’t sound the best here either ….. it’s because it’s the Grammys nothing more
I agree with your assessment with Rob Thomas' vocals on this live version. In his defense the band is overpowering his vocals. In the "studio" version the sound engineer can bring up the vocals so it is not drowned out by the band. Santana's band is spot on. In a track with so much energy most singers would get overpowered.
Nope I love this better.
I love this live version. 🎉I don’t like the studio version very much. I think it’s because I love rock singers. LOVE MATCHBOX 20.
That's the original singer Rob Thomas, C'MON
I think Rob Thomas sounds great and I think this Live performance is way better than the Music video I don't know what she's talking about.
Love your reactions as always. Smooth was a great song though it was later in his career. Carlos was known for his guitar work and his fusion of Latin sounds with electric rock, rather than for his vocals. Would love to see you react to something earlier, like Evil Ways from 69 or 70. I graduated high school in 1970 so I grew up in the Woodstock era, with Santana, Hendix, the Alman Brothers, and Janis Joplin. Soul Sacrifice is an instrumental that everyone loves in part due to the long drum battle that goes on in the middle.
Thank you for your lovely comment. Will you be there for my 195K Subscriber Celebration Live Stream tomorrow?
Your positive vibe is contagious Maggie, i love your reactions. Carlos Santana is an icon of guitar.
Santana, great Mexican music leyend. Hope he stays with us for years
Santana showed his prowess at Woodstock and Matchbox 20 is worth diving into.
Santana is one musician that brings the wourld together❤
This took me back to when I was in HS and my friends and I would have sleepovers and dance to his music. 😃😃
Really rob Thomas wrote this song a award winning artist
Was from the VMA's performance in -99?? I was barely 7yrs old.💗
Number 1 song in TWO decades... 1999 and 2000
I´ve always thought that the one who enjoys Santana the most, is Santana himself as he plays.
Literally how he sang it on the recording lol
Don't get to see opera singers shakin' it too often. Brava!
💃🎶💃
Not only best song but best album ever
It makes me long for America in 1999
I have a feeling that some people are unaware of Rob using an effect on his voice on the verses (possibly thought of to help Rob out with the low range used in the verses), which he then reverts to his usual studio voice during the choruses, belts at the end etc. If you have never noticed this before, you will now :)
Rob Tomas is very comfortable with this song here.
🤣🤣🤣
Here I am dancing away then you hit pause and I freeze in space until you tap play.
Carlos Santana = guitar legend
Carlos is a God
Love your personality. Funny, sweet and down to earth. You make me happy and laugh. Not many can do this. NOT!
One of the best❤
OMG 😱 I just remembered, check out 7 year old Lucciano Pizzichini, playing Samba Party for Carlos Santana 👍 It's Epic 🔥
I love this song. Love your reaction to this Maggie
Thank you for your lovely comment! 😊💖 Hope to see you TONIGHT: ruclips.net/video/Bzan_Nmd1wQ/видео.html
Carlos Santana is an American from Mexico, born in Autlán Jalisco
Such a fun reaction!
My favorite Santana album is maybe "Caravenserei" but from his newer stuff i also really enjoyed the songs he did with Michelle Branch (The Game of Love, I'm feeling you), they have such a nice summer feel-good vibe and when we finally get some summer here in northern germany, i often listen to them.
Thanks for your comment. 😊 Did you like the new reaction video I just posted to Powerwolf?
@@maggiereneemusic Sorry but i didn't watched it since i'm no big fan of growling and screaming. Its ok if used in small doses but not if its more than maybe 10-15% of the song. Btw. Alissa has really nice clean voice, she made that duo with Charlotte Wessels from ex Dealain, whished she would do more like that.
I'm for example really happy about what Melissa Bonny now does with Ad Infinitum while Rage of Light was also something i didn't really like because too much growling.
Oh, but i watched your Scorpions video, its funny to see somebody who didn't know them since i know tham already since 1986 maybe and really loved their album "Fly to the rainbow" that i first heared at my older brother 😄🤘🏼
Also i'm german, so of course i know them and "Winds of Change" was a big thing here just like Roger Waters "The Wall" show he did in Berlin.
You should react to Soul Sacrifice live from Woodstock when Carlos was really young.
Maggie, Carlos started so long ago, and you have to go back to Woodstock to really appreciate his talent, try Soul Sacrifice from that 'happening' in 1969 !
One of the greatest songs ever written
Rob sounds different in the verses on the live version because they put a filter over his voice during the verses of the studio version, that's the reason it sounds different. They made his voice sound deeper on the studio version during the verses.
Loved the look on your face at the point when you figured out what song it was Beautiful young lady!!! 🤑🤘❤
Thank you for your lovely comment. 🤗💖 Would love to see you on Patreon www.patreon.com/MaggieRenee?
It don't much matter if Rob Thomas is struggling on this particular evening because you know Santana will blow the roof off the joint
Get some Carlos !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You can spot Santana's guitar miles away!!🥰
Studio recordings are always better than live. In studio everything gets tweaked to perfection.
I get what you're saying, with the layering and effects on the studio version, but... idk. Maybe it's just his voice in general, but it still does it for me 😅🤣🤣
Your not being fair to him. They used some special effect, to make his vocals different in the beginning and other parts afterwards, on the recorded version, to make his vocals sound distant, like on an old radio.
Happy new year
Maggie watch the clip shot out in the street (which also features Rob Thomas' wife) as the official video, it is even better with a cast of people dancing.
😄I love your honesty when you said you think Rob Thomas sounded better vocally on the studio recording... Thank you! (I agree... It's still a super fun performance, tho!)
(There are not very many vocalists who impress me with sounding as-good-as - or even-better-than - their studio recordings... Freddie Mercury and K.D. Lang being a couple of them.)
Very sweet! Thank you! 🤗💟 Hope to see you on my Patreon: www.patreon.com/MaggieRenee
The album "Supernatural" had a lot of featured vocalists. Maria, Maria is another great song off the album
My favorite Santana song is, "Europa" All instrumental.
I think on the verse rob sounds like himself they just really edited his voice for the recorded version to have this effect on it. cause i agree i was taken aback by his natural voice too never hearing this live, but once i got used to his real voice its pretty good
He sings to a megaphone with certain affects that you can’t produce really live, without having an actual megaphone muted
Carlos Santana & Mana - Corazon Espinado (Miami Beach, 2009) !!!!!!!!!!
