Cardio fitness is true fitness. Lifting is not going to prolong your life. Your heart doesn't care see 200lbs of fat as being becesarily worse then 200lbs of muscle, the load being placed on the heart will be the same. Working the heart and lungs is true fitness
Lifting does prolong your life. Or at least that is what the most up to date medical opinion on longevity says - you need to maintain a good VO2 max, but you also need to maintain some muscle and strength to prevent things like falls etc in old age, particularly after 75.
