Hello, could you explain the letter t here? "Parle-t-elle francais?" What is it used for? Merci
The letter "t" in "Parle-t-elle" is used to make the sentence easier to pronounce when forming a question with inversion. In French, when the verb ends in a vowel (like "parle" ends in a vowel "e") and the subject pronoun begins with a vowel (like "il," "elle," or "on"), a "t" is inserted between the verb and the pronoun.
Without the "t," you would have "Parle-elle," which is awkward to pronounce because the "e" in "parle" and the "e" in "elle" would clash.
This "t" doesn’t have any meaning by itself; it's just there to make the sentence sound smoother and avoid the awkwardness of two vowels coming together.
