Nice video! I want to start getting into plants more so this will help :) Also a quick may madness idea: you could set up a camera, maybe like an old phone or something to record a tank through the whole month of may (or an hour everyday or something) andante it into a time lapse at the end of the month, you could start before May so it would show more progress; you could also just take a picture or two everyday then compile them in a similar manner. Might be too much work but it could also be really cool idk
I want to give my forest dragons a bunch more plants but because they are so big they trample them pretty easy unfortunately as well as their forest floor has not much light any suggestions? Great video as always my friend
I don't think I do, basically I would drill a whole just about the same size as the base of the bromeliad and just push it into the hole! Other than that you could cyanoacrylate it to the branch if need be.
Great Video Mike. My Planted Terrarium has taken off for my Crested Geckos, lots of help from your videos. What's the name of the band playing in your video like the song. Thanks.
Do the carnivorous plants need another substrate then the other tropical plants? Which orchids stay small and are intresting? Sorry for typos, I'm from germany and I really enjoy your work.
I think I am going to try to find a way to do this with Bonsai trees and other selected plants, insects, frogs, and other fine touches like a waterfall as well. But on a large scale, but not massive of course LOL!... Large as in a tank about 4 feet long, as well as wide, and about 6-7 feet high. I hope my perception of Aquaponics (at a hobbyist's level) will allow me to achieve this?' but who knows right?.... I was inspired by your channel and would like to try creating a miniature self sustaining rainforest, If I can?...
I have a few questions. So when you plant soil plants, is any jungle mix with microfauna a good nutritional soil? I typically use this but have a hard time growing plants in it. With bromeliads and similar plants, how is everyone able to just stick them onto things? I have never had this happen, I either put them on cracks of wood or just lay them on the ground. And lastly, do you know any medium stem/branch type plants that work well in tropical set ups? I'm setting up 50 gallon giant day gecko vivarium so I was looking for something firm enough, and filling enough. Thanks a ton and great video!
If you really can't I would make sure that you have a balanced soil, ABG mix is great. And most things will grow, broms don't take nutrients from their soil... so that's not issue haha. But there are a couple good ones like snake plants, and peperomia obtusifolia, I will let you do the research for other plants.
Do I need microfauna in a plant-only terrarium? I'm looking to create a little jungle terrarium out of an old fishtank with a waterfall. I MAYYYY add frogs later, but I'm more of a gardener than a pet owner.
Would some of these plants be okay with an Orchid Mantis ( Hymenopus coronatus )? They live in the rain forests of South-Asia and I'm hoping to transfer the feel of that in the terrarium I'm using while keeping it bioactive (if possible) so I could use some plant/setup suggestions and tips, especially since this will be my first time attempting to setup a terrarium with humid climate AND live plants! Thank you ♥ Also great video btw, love to watch your content and keep up the good work! ♥
Not vivarium related kind of.... I am a new reptile owner and I have a veiled chameleon named Mortimer he is doing very well. Though I was wondering is there and specific plants he would enjoy more than others? And any other helpful tips?!!
Hey I'm new to Terrariums and I've got some Syngonium of some sort I think they may be Syngonium podophyllum 'Green Star' but they are rotting, they're turning to mush am I misting the terrarium to much?
Where'd you get that light from and what size is it? It seems like the planted+ 24/7 only comes in 20" or bigger. I'm looking for a good 18 inch light.
hi mike im thinking of getting my vivarium setup the month before actually getting a couple of dart frogs to spread out the initial cost. do you have any tips for specific plants, and keeping them happy? thanks
i have question about chameleons and its what kind of basking light bulb i should use because i live in the northern part of america and its gets cold and i have my 60 watt daylight bulb but it gets around 70 on the basking arena. should use a 75 watt basking light or a intense basking light that is 75 watt?
Hello Mike, Could you advise on my plans to have a planted vivarium? I have found a Vivarium that is made from wood with glass sliding doors from the Vivexotic Maxi Large range that I plan on putting down a base layer of Eco Earth and a topping of forrest/orchid bark... The plan is to plant some easy snake friendly plants that don't require too much root space. Is this a practical idea that is manageable or would you discourage it because the vivarium is wood and not glass? I Beleive the floor of the viv is sealed by a laminate layer but am cautious of having too much moisture in the viv. What would you suggest would be the best way to layout/decorate my wooden Vivexotic Maxi Large Viv in terms of Live/Plastic Plants, Aspen or Eco Earth and Orchid Bark, Spray bottle Misting and moisture levels in the viv etc? Many thanks, C from the UK
You would need to seal the wood with some sort of sealant before I would even consider doing a vivarium. The plants really depend on what kind of snake it is honestly.
You would like an honestly opinion from me on what your tanks are looking like? If you would like you can send me photos on my alpha reptile facebook page and I can give some feedback there.
Outdoors And Botanical For the most part everyone in the vivarium hobbie does not use fertilizer or fertilizer soil... they make their own substrate. He has a video on that on his channel go check it out its really helpful!
Mike Tytula I need some help. So I have been planning to get a crested gecko for a while. I have done all the possible research. So I bought crested gecko diet, but when I got my crested gecko yesterday the lady at the pet store said they feed them crickets. I bought crickets but I just need to know how to convert him from eating crickets to Crested Gecko Diet?
It's not easy honestly, I would buy a food scale (that measures in grams) and just feed the cresty crickets like once a week, and all the days keep some diet in there for him to get. Weigh him weekly or biweekly and make sure he's not loosing any weight.
Hey Mike Quick question I'm trying to finish my vivarium tank and now i'm stuck at buying the light. Do you recommend this light? Beamswork DA 6500K 0.50W Series LED Pent Aquarium Light Freshwater Plant Discus www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KYELCSA/ref=ox_sc_mini_detail?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=APGLUTFSIU1LH It's 5000 Lumen (Mind you I have Bromeliad, Creeping Fig ) My Exo Terra is 36x 18x 24tall But inside the terrarium (with the false bottom/substrate) its 18 Inches Tall from substrate to top Think 5000 Lumen is enough light for 18 inches from the ground to top
Cool. Ecuagenera is interesting. From my understanding, if I put an order with them, they will bring their plants to Canada during their show and send it from here.
Thank you very much for this Mike!! Very well put together and I enjoyed all the details of this. 😁
Glad you enjoyed man!
I think the plant you can't ID is some type of Peperomia I feel like I have seen it before. and that red philodendron is sweet!!!
Ya I think it is too but I need a name haha
Very nice and descriptive video! I feel like I might need to use these tips if I decide to get a crestie! Thank you!
They certainly will!
Here in Ontario theres plenty of reptile/aquarium shops with stuff like this. Not sure where you are but you should check them out
I will hopefully be moving to Ontario in the next few months
the plant you can't ID looks like a young anubias nana to me... I have them too in my vivarium and aquarium 😊
It's not anubias haha thanks though
Old video but you seem good at responding to comments. Anyway, could I just have a UVB bulb to grow these plants or do I NEED one of those LEDS?
I don't recommend using UVB bulbs on the plants, typically it burns them.
Awesome video!
great video!! have you done any videos on how you get the background working. I like how you have mini caves. anyway Lmk. j
I have several haha

Can you do a video on your plant growing tank and how to set it up? Thanks.
Ya maybe! I mean theres nothing special about it haha
Hey mike. Could you do a care guide for a salamander, would be a great help 😜
I don't own one... So unfortunately not
I want to give my forest dragons a bunch more plants but because they are so big they trample them pretty easy unfortunately as well as their forest floor has not much light any suggestions? Great video as always my friend
Use a flood light, like an LED one that doesn't give of much heat
Hi Mike, have you got a video on attaching bromeliads to cork branches at all? Thanks
I don't think I do, basically I would drill a whole just about the same size as the base of the bromeliad and just push it into the hole! Other than that you could cyanoacrylate it to the branch if need be.

Most of those plants do well in high humidity, it all depends on the soil type you have in their tank

I recommend looking up the Chameleon breeder podcast, he has an episode on chameleon safe plants that even he uses in his tanks.
love the video

How do you fertilize orchids in a vivarium? Which fertilizer is safe?
I personally don't... but I'm sure if you are dosing with very low concentration natural fertilizer you should be okay!

for your respond man!!!
Keep those vivarium coming!! Really enjoy your videos + Thump Up
Have a nice Sunday :D
thanks man! Glad you enjoyed!
Whats that hibiscus flower plant? How'd you grow it like that?
Just good light and humidity
@@MikeTytula from just a cutting of thr plant?
I just bought a smaller plant that happened to flower!
@@MikeTytula Intresting. I'll try that in my crested gecko tank.
does the light have to give off UVB? or could it just be any led?
IF it's going through glass then no UVB will pass through it anyway so theres no point haha
How much time does it take for them to grow into a perfectly planted vivarium?
I mean 6 months? A year? It depends on what the growth rate of the plants you plant is.
Help my Chinese water dragon ate a isopod will she be sick? She ate springtails to
Nope she'll be fine
Do you know much about basilisks
A bit why?
Are plants less available in Canada because of more strict nonnative vegetation importing regulations?
They are less available because less people bring them in and grow them.
I see, thank you!
Plant list please
Morten from danmark
I wouldn't be able to ship to Denmark! Sorry man!
Who is your Canadian plant source? Looking for suppliers of mini orchids.
I would look into ecuagenera, or rium.ca
Cool. Ecuagenera is interesting. From my understanding, if I put an order with them, they will bring their plants to Canada during their show and send it from here.
That is correct! They have some awesome orchids!
Cool
where do you buy most of your plants?
All over the place!
