Truhfully not many terrariums are big enough for caladiums. You might see them in stores when they are tiny, but as they grow they get massive.

One thing i recommend is neogrelia Hawaï and neogrelia akeso they are doing great and look nice aswell, especialy the blooming of akeso

Good stuff Mike, definitely a great introduction to botany! Since getting my lined day geckos, I’ve seen them defecting frequently in the phytotoma (is that the plural or singular?) of their bromeliads - I wonder if they’ll change in growth patterns with the extra nutrients? It’ll be interesting to see!
Phytotelma is the singular, phytotelmata is the plural. It's possible that it can change.
i'm actually pretty sure that bromeliads will benefit from vertebrates waste - such as from frogs or geckos!

Mike- is the mutualistic relationship between the ants and bromeliads the same as a symbiotic relationship. A bit off tangent- if you every have time, watch Medicine Man (with Sean Connery) great movie, makes you think, and wonderful relationship with his co-star.
A symbiotic relationship is just when two organisms have long term contact with each other, it can be mutualistic, parasitic, or commensalistic.

Thats so cool I had no idea there were myrmecophytic bromiliads, I know about some of the more common ones like ant trees and stuff but thanks for the info! I really enjoy studying ants and love every bit of info on it them I can get :D

Hey Mike! I am setting up a vivarium for tree frogs (fringe leaf, amazon milk, waxy... I am still not sure what species). What do you think about bromeliads for their enclosure? Thanks for this video!
It can definitely work! the waxy would likely be too big for many species of commonly available broms, but the others you should be able to find one that is big enough.

Hi ! What should be the irrigation period and times? How many times a day should I spray? I will be glad if you help
Totally depends on the parameters of the tank you are looking for. I would say that misting a couple times a day for a short period is best, but I can't really share best practices for a situation I am unaware of.

Yay plant videos!!! I just want to know why I can’t keep my broms alive. :(. They’re in my crested geckos enclosure, have a Tincman herps LED bulb. Was watering the center part (not going to try and spell the name) And they aren’t getting the super bright colors or are they living very long. Le sigh.
Interesting maybe just the wrong kinds of bromeliads.

Hi Mike I did have a question for you, I have a paludarium with fish but no terrestrial animals, if I were to put Bromeliads in the land section how do I make sure they get enough nutrients (since no frogs etc. would be using them)? Should I place some organic material in the base of the bromeliad as a nutrient source? Thank you!
I once put rabbit poop into Neoregelias. Just to try if they’d get nutrients from the rabbit poop. I did it quite a while to a one Neoregelia and to be honest I didn’t see any changes. Neither good or bad but I guess they could get something out of it. The vivarium was empty of animals at that time.
In that case there might not be an invertebrate life inside the phytotelma, therefore you might just be better off having it filled with water.

There are a few bromeliads native to Florida, most being tillandsia though
What species is it?
@@MikeTytula one of them is Catopsis berteroniana and it’s carnivorous. Others are Spanish moss and other various air plants. I saw there was a Guzmania native to Florida as well.

So what is the significance of tillandsia?
significance? As in...?
@@MikeTytula ive heard that they are somehow different from other members of the bromeliade family. I know they have trichomes on the entirety of their leaves and that they flower from the middle, but I'm not sure this is a significant difference. Based on this video, it seems to me that they are just another bromeliad. Btw tillandsia are "air plants" for those who were unaware.
I believe one of the major difference (without researching it at all) is that they don't have phytotelmata, or at least many of them don't!
