Good insight, as usual! I must say that, although your craftsmanship is beyond reproach, it is your personality and sense of humor that, in my opinion, will bring more people to wonderful world of blades and bladesmithing. More importantly, I think it will encourage people to get into sharpening and shaping the blades they already own, and end up finding what features work best for them. Keep up the good work!

One of my guys at work asked if I could throw out the contents of the back room. We didn't carry anymore of the product anymore. It was about 50 boxes of Mirka in various grits. I've been using it on wood and steel for three weeks and its great stuff. I've never seen sandpaper last this long.

My tip is that on my homemade sanding board that currently has 2 grits 240 and 600 is that it has padding. An old mouse pad will work but my current one has a layer of cut up old beer coozees. The rubber is glued down with Gorilla glue but the paper on top is secured with Elmers School Glue, because in a month or whenever you feel the paper is worn out, it peels off easily

enjoyed this and other videos of yours. i want your openion... have you tried hand polishing with stones. watched a video where the guy used various stones...sooo...i tried it... found it much fasted and easier than sand paper, my plung line cleaner...

That Mirka gold is actually intended for the softer materials than steel, with aluminum oxide.
I use also Mirka for many sanding applications. Really innovative and tough products 👍🏻

I use a magnetic fish tank cleaner as a sanding block. It relieves your fingers of the pressure and cramps. It reduces the risk of convexing your grind lines too. You might wanna try it.

Is Oak wood OK to use for the sanding wedge for the plunge lines? I have a small piece of oak that would be perfect for that. I also have a bit of Yellow Tarara left, that I am using for handle scales. it is also pretty hard stuff, but I don't know how they compare to the stabilized maple wedge Jason used in the video. I am working on my first knife right now. screwed up the plunge lines when i was grinding the bevel, but its still pretty decent looking. I am going to leave the flaws visible, instead of sanding everything out, so I don't obscure the areas that I need more skill and practice with. thanks for the great videos Jason!!! keep it up!
