  • Liverpool under Klopp had gradually been making the climb towards winning trophies again but had been falling short despite having some of the worlds best players such as Salah, Sane Arnold etc
That was until they hired renowned coach Thomas Gronnemark as they identified an area of need in improving efficiency from throws and are Liverpool ranked as the 3rd worst in the league at
Liverpool soon saw their ball retention go from just 40% to over 65% for one of the most undervalued set pieces in football - here is my take on the key principles they have adopted under Gronnemark and why Liverpool are even more formidable now after his revolution
what your thoughts on throw-ins as a set-piece? is it as neglected as they say? or is it just a matter of throwing the ball back in play, get on with things? let me know in the comments below

Hmm, I'm glad I found this video. I was doing my level 1 coaching course a while ago and our tutor was telling us that liverpool had hired a coach just for throwins, I asked him if it was for the action of throwing the ball or more for positional ideas and general play around throwins (which is what I suspected). He told me it was just for the action of throwing the ball and I felt a bit stupid but whatdyaknow.

I'm all but certain he has some influence over tactical situations but would imagine there is a balance between his ideas and klopps principles

      Hi Jonnie
I'm coaching everything around the throw-ins. Both technique, movements, tactical things... both offensively and defensively.

At grassroots levels how much time should be dedicated to throw-ins?.... I accept each club will take matters on a case by case basis...but generally, do you see it as important when you only work your players 1-2 or 3 times per week or are there bigger fish to fry??
