    Hey Lester and Jami. We had to put our sweet “Princess” Scarlet down on Saturday morning. Our hearts are broken and we are now in the healing process. Just wanted to let y’all know. Scarlet is a dog and she was perfectly healthy then we woke up one day and she lost the use of her back legs. She had a spinal stroke and she went down hill quickly. From Sunday-Saturday, she went from healthy to gone in a matter of a week. We are crushed. We love y’all and hope you have a blessed weekend. ❤🐶💜

      @@mendi1161 That's not a nice thing to say about Trixie. There's nothing wrong with her. She only has a limp from a prior injury a long time ago. As long as she can walk, she's fine and besides, Lester and Jami have addressed that issue with her limping that doesn't bother her except when the weather is on the chilly/cool side. If you use the logs you can set up steps and fill in behind the logs. Zig-zag your way up the hill so it will not erode easily. We did these at our Boy Scout camp to stop erosion and it made climbing the hill a lot easier!

    I don't know how many of the folks advisin you here have actually raised horses and been with horses most of their life but I have. Not bragging just a fact. I have raised and been around other breeders for many years. Rita is a yearling , she is fine. If anything you are doing way more with her than most do with yearlings. She needs to be in with the boys. One thing that I think is a problem is the placement of the round pen ( and I lover your round pen) It makes the dry lot outside the round pen too close quarters . The horses and donkeys have too many spots to be semi trapped causing too much pressure and making them feel clostrophobic . So they wheel, kick and bite. If you plan to leave it there I would strongly suggest either feeding them out in the pasture where they have room to get away from each other OR bringing them in to feed in their stalls. Where they can enjoy their food in peace. I think you would find that if the horses were in wider spaces they will find it easier to establish their pecking order. Also I wanted to ask you if you actually saw Rita kick Voo is the face ? I ask because it does not look like a kick. It looks like he stuck his head someplace and for some reason bumped and scraped it. If she reared and struck him with her front feet it would be more possible to make a mark like that. I wasnt to encourage you. I think you are worrying too much. Young horses , especially hot blodded horses are full of enegry. Given enough space they will work it out. Bucees has enought energy for her and Voo is more than able to take care of himself . They just need more room and the dry lot no longer affords them the space. They'll be alright . I think Rita is becoming more frustrated being switched around. Take a deep breath put her in the pasture with the geldings and give her some time. The thing I've noticed that I really like is how she walks right up to you when you are out with her. She isn't bad at all ! You just aren't familiar with a young horse. Less is more. Love y'all and love , love , love those horses.

    • @nowandthennn
      @nowandthennn 11 месяцев назад +1

      I agree . In a larger pasture they can get their own release until they form a bond or teach Rita some manners . The two other horses seem gentle and wouldn’t give Rita more discipline than what she needed .

    LOL, I wrote that just BEFORE you called Uriel a Jack of all trades!

    $25 is such an amazing amount to pay people. My Dad's first wage for a weeks work as a labourer was £10 (old English money). It shocks my Dad that UK minimum wage is £10.42 an hour now hahaha. Crazy how things change

    Best morning ever is a cup of black coffee ☕️ and loving from your animals!! What a blessing you’ve been to Uriel and (Tio) and vice versa. He’s such a hard worker and so knowledgeable with so many different projects you have around both projects. I know this might be a stretch but I wonder if Uriel would be open to working with Rita?

    My first job as a waitress paid 90 cents an hour in 1972. Few tips as the place was not very busy. I cleaned the whole kitchen and mopped the floors while working alone. When I turned 18 I got a job that paid $2.35 an hour!

    My first job was $2.00 an hour. I saved enough money to pay my college tuition working 2 full time jobs making $2.50/ hr. Of course back then tuition was only $2000.00 a semester. But I managed to get a double master's degree and start out my life with no after college debt. It was not easy, but I'm very thankful I was able to do it.

    I was thinking about your dead grass, and you had said, "the soil has sand, dirt, and red clay." The red clay in the soil maybe too hardened from the lack of moisture, for grass seeds to come up. What I do (in Florida) which the soil does not have Red Clay, is Till the soil (burnt patches) with soil, cow manure, and water. Tillage is turning and mixing the topsoil that you have and put down the cow manure mixed with soil. Next, sprinkle in your grass seed and water. Tillage is the agricultural preparation of soil by mechanical agitation of various types, such as digging, stirring, and overturning. Examples of human-powered tilling methods using hand tools include shoveling, picking, hoeing, and raking. You could have a compost pile of leaves, soil, and cow manure. Buy a bag of Grass seed make sure it's the Bermuda or St. Augustine seed. I pay close to $4.00 a bag for cow manure. Try it out, on a large, burned patch and see what happens in two weeks. It would be inexpensive to try it. You have most of the materials right in your property.
    I love your woods! You must be really enjoying exploring your own woods. It is very healthy for the soil to clear out the dead trees too. Your view of the river is breathtaking.

    Lester, first let me say I am kidding with you. Don't want you to get mad. But you screamed like a girl over the locust! Then....YOU the big bad man who won't even run his hand over a bull or scratch them arounds horns, was insisting Jami come and kill it even though it would wipe out her whole garden!! You said it was looking at you!
    Maybe practice what you preach a little. 😂😂😂 Please remember Im just kidding you! I can be scarastic. And without verbal and body language, it may not be obvious Im Kidding.

    I guess things are very different in Texas, regarding labor. Here in Southern California at In-N-Out Burger, the workers get $20 or more dollars an hour. That certainly is not skilled labor.
