Definitely want to see an EV9 / Model X / R1S comparison video! Love this stuff - great job!
would be interesting to add a wild card in the form of the ID Buzz - maybe the lineup for the next race?
Yeah the id buzz really is comparable to the EV9.
Rivians are def my favorite evs rn solely on looks alone, I love the pill shaped headlights its so unique u know what is from 1 mile down the road and it gives it a very friendly and approachable look 🤣
If we’re throwing in the buzz we should also include the ex90 which will probably be available around the same time.
Why a comparison with a Rivian? That’s a SUV. The Kia is a minivan and the Tesla is a crossover. How do you compare three different categories.
Watching Alyssa recline into oblivion at 48:45 had me giggling. The look on her face was priceless too.
And it was funny kyle was like what you doing 🤣
If a car accident happens…
I owned the first Niro EV in St. Louis 3 plus years ago - put 40,000 miles on it, not 1 issues - loved it, my first EV!! We just upgraded to the Ev6 and have owned 6 KIA's over the years, Rio, Sportage, Sedona, Forte, Niro, Telluride - love them all for price and durability. This vehicle looks great and has so many features for the money! The only thing I do NOT love are the wheels - but that is so minor. We will trade the Telluride for one of these soon I am sure! KIA is the only brand I buy! Never and issue!
Thank you Fort Collins Kia for blessing us with an Out of Spec EV9 video
I loved it when Alyssa reclined the seat at the 48:48 mark. It was so much fun watching her surprise Kyle like that. Please keep it up Alyssa.
We love our EV9 (Wind AWD) so far! Lucked into one of the first ones in FL!
I live in small town Western Australia, saw this exact same model in the same colour. Absolutely blown away by its presence on the road, go kia!
Yes please for the 3-way comparison: EV9; R1S; and Model X!
I own a EV9 since november (i come from germany) and i am really happy with the car. Thanks for the review
Thats amazing!
Im really torn between this thing and a Polestar 3. Had a drive in an EV9 and really found it good. Gonna wait to get a drive in a PS3 before i make up my mind. Although if I go for the EV9 I will be replacing the alloys; they are not my cup of tea lol.
Highly encourage you to do a workshop with the KIA software people... They need a wake-up call.
You guys sure make a good team. Nice job on the videoing. It utterly astounds me that Kyle can remember and keep track of the details from all these vehicles.
Total nerd…gotta love it
I have watched many dozens of your videos. This was my favorite so far. I like how Alyssa is now comfortable in front to the camera. Well done Kyle! Oh, BTW EV9 seems near state of the art!
I have done some tests on the big battery here in Sweden, 350A is the limit on a “800V” charger, unfortunately only 200A limit if you charge at “400V” a charger. Big disappointment if you are a nerd but OK for normal people.
Greta review Kyle. Wonderful car! Love the section on the regenerate of the car. Comments from Alyssa!! 🙂 Just so great!!! Have a Wonderfull end of the year! Good health and luck to you both! And many roadtrips and reviews!!!!!
I had two EV6s and they were pretty amazing. If I needed a bigger ride I would go after the EV9. As of right now, the R1T is still my boo.
EV6 is quite big inside as it is, especially the back seats (limo-like back there)
@@lemongavine it did have a lot of room. I just wanted something that could go offroad
Man they’d absolutely smash the market if it was 15k less. I love these. This is the colour and spec I’d get! Stormtrooper!
In Canada the vehicle is very close in price to the similar gas Telluride, especially when incentives are available (5k National plus select Provincial rebates)
We don’t have the Telluride in the UK. The nearest we have is the Model X but only left hand drive or the Volvo EX90 both £20K more than the top of the line EV9. Or the BMW iX which is even more expensive spec for spec.
@@andrewlarner6190 hopefully this vehicle encourages greater competition for similar vehicles from other brands in your region, Andrew.
yeah I agree, at close to $80K they are competing against the Model X and Rivian R1S, both of which have air suspension, are much faster, have longer range and more. If the GT Line was $62K it would be really hard to beat.
@@CttechexpressRivian has more range but The X’s real world range is pretty similar to the EV9. Came in a little lower in Edmunds test while the EV9 exceeded EPA by 34 miles. The Rivian and C still come in over $10k more. And it’s a feature trade off. I would use the Kia’s CarPlay every drive while the 1 sec faster 0-60 is a novelty that’s fun but would rarely be used. I like the look of the Rivian more and it has more cargo capacity but between CarPlay and Kia’s amazing regen control it’s pulling ahead even if they had been price neutral. Better warranty that Rivian (dual motor) or Tesla too.
This car is impressive and I’m sure it will do well in its segment, but I’d also like to see the EV 5 come here.
Agreed, we have very little choice in Canada and in the USA for compact and affordable wagons and hatchbacks, especially for those on a dedicated and modern EV platform. It will be interesting to see if Hyundai or Kia will beat Tesla to market, as the EX30 will be quite expensive in Canada.
Yes I want to see the battle of ev9 vs rivain r1s
Yeah, all except the 90k battery replacement cost incurred if you only get a small scratch on it.
@@moedog20same
@@BigMeanyVids Ev hater spotted.
It was hilarious when you said you wished it had passenger seat controls from the drivers side when we were staring right at them! LOL!!!
Thanks for the great review of this important vehicle!
Thank you both, great job and i love how you guys are so down to earth even after youve driven and probably owned numerous luxury cars. And there’s nothing wrong with liking the luxury brands its fine if you do but not everyone cares about the badge its about how good the car is regardless of brand for some. Keep up the great work!
Great info. Impressive presentation and commentary.
Another well documented view , superb really enjoyed this.
Houses used to cost $75K back in the day! Crazy that's where cars are now!
I am taking delivery of my EV9 GT-line on January 31, 2024, in Michigan with a $3,750 dealer discount.
That’s a more realistic price. Did you lease or purchase?
That should be a great one EV9 vs RIV vs Model X, including a range test battle between the three.
until they all have the nacs port and can all supercharge, it seems like the Model X should win by default every time.
I laughed so hard when Alyssa started putting her seat down 😂
Wow. I was excited for the EV9 before this video but now I can't wait. Manually-triggered battery conditioning?! I need that on my I5. I was surprised by the strange voltage range on the big battery; hopefully that doesn't cause issues with DC charging. Adding to the chorus: I'd love to see the R1S vs. EV9 comparison specifically. Including the Model X would be a bonus, but I think a lot of buyers will be primarily cross-shopping the first two since they are more traditional SUV shapes with more cargo space. (Just ask the dogs!)
As always, I love all the details in these videos. Thanks, Kyle and Alyssa!
The price is outrageous, which is unfortunate because I like the way it looks. But I refuse to pay that price for a Kia. If it was 60k for the GT line, then maybe... But 75k+, nah I'm good.
Should drop maybe 5k once they are pouring out of the West point GA plant and maybe the all new hyundai/Kia metaplant in Savannah Georgia opening in late 2024. Ad built in nacs and tax credit for 2025? Should make this extremely competitive in the 3 row full size ev SUV space. 👍🏻
Would you pay 70k for a Ford?
It’s not about it being a KIA. It’s about mediocre specs for this price. The battery should have been 130 kWh, and then we could have a conversation about the price. The RWD with 200HP? For this size SUV? Seriously, KIA? If it were 350 HP RWD with 130 kWh battery with the EPA range at 400 miles, it would be a very compelling vehicle at this price even being a KIA.
I saw the beast two weeks ago.. I was impressed by the looks and how big it was.
Great video, really excited about this. My wife and I are looking at this to be our first EV, its pretty solid. I hope that the ID Buzz (US Spec) is a similar price to this since that is also on the list for us.
Very nice. I hope they bring the EV5 to the U.S.
Yes! I would love a battle between the MX, R1S, and EV9!
Good to see people with positive reviews. Not for our budget minded family but do enjoy Kia.
3:26 - yes please!
I saw it in person when a blue model made its rounds around the NYC metropolitan area. I was impressed. Remember thinking that the materials were on par with an F150 Ice/electric.
I got my EV9 GT about a month ago. I've already put on 3k miles and its been worth every penny. I have 0 regrets, I just wish there were better charge options for road trips but no major issues so far. Haul the family and dogs with ease.
4k!
what an excellent review, thank you
I live down south of Denver and yet I have bought two vehicles (2022 Carnival and 2023 EV6) from Fort Collins Kia over the past two years due to terrible experiences trying to deal with other Kia dealerships in the greater Denver Metropolitan area. They treat you like an actual person and are not super pushy, even in the back office. The person I worked with to buy my EV6 actually knew something about EVs, which was definitely not the case with other dealerships (other Kia, VW, and Hyundai) besides Tesla when I was test driving various vehicles a few months ago before buying my EV6.
About the car though, I really like the concept of the EV9, but with several young kids, I can't imagine buying a car that doesn't have sliding doors. Here is hoping Kia either releases a full EV van or they at least do a plug-in hybrid Carnival in the future.
Thanks Kyle and Alyssa for an honest review I'm in regional Australia and we don't have any start ups or local or imported equivalents due to hit our market till 2028....So I have a Kia ev9 GT Line on order for 2024 May delivery. I have been patiently waiting for an EV with the range and power & charging capability specs to tow a caravan. It also has to accommodate my 4 dogs. Australia only has a bench seat version available in the GT Line which suits me fine but I think families would love the option of the swivel captains mid row seats for Baby capsules. My criteria was V2Grid/home/load although Australia is very behind with the option to do this. I purchased a Leaf in 2020 as it was the only EV capable of V2home. The geeky stuff is important when comparing brands or fulfilling expectations of a fit for purpose EV. So appreciate your reviews over the years.
Yes to see comparisons of X, EV9 and R1S
Nice ride.
Great review! Great tutorial! Subscribed to the channel, too. Happy 2024! SoCalFreddy
@38:22 thanks Kyle for highlighting what Hyundai Kia do with Lane keep & how it can be turned on always regardless of ACC on! Once I experienced that in a gas Hyundai 4 years ago, I felt every other implementation was dumb!
Love your review
Ioniq 5 owner here, when an E-GMP is in Eco mode, the front motor is normally engaged at low speed (under 10 kph) and during acceleration. That's always been the case. The most efficient way I've found to drive is in Eco mode with Auto regen. That combo seems to give me the maximum range.
It finally happened! Alyssa is also wearing a hoodie!!!!
Great review as usual guys. Love that we're hearing so much of Alyssa's perspective these days as well. I think I share the perspective that Kia keeps surprising us with steps up the ladder in quality, styling, new ideas, etc. given that old timers like myself can remember the entry level cars Kia/Hyundai focused on in my youth. They seem to be moving a bit from the approach of copying the competition by making comparable cars that win on price to one where they are now taking the design and production lead, especially in the EV space. Hopefully their cars won't start to price their traditional customers out of the market going forward.
What’s funny to me is,e, is how so many folk forget Honda, Mazda, and Toyota had the same progression. They were the Japanese junk back in the 70’s and 80’s, and Toyota now owns the world market. Nobody in America wanted to even sell the cars except one dude in California, and A,Erica’s car dealers talked about him like a dog. He was scorned for peddling that “Asian Crap”….. Give Kia/Hyundai a few more years. They’re killing the tech/features/luxury game for the buck. All they need now is stability in the reliability and they’ll definitely be ahead of the pack. Their overall value cannot be beat, but it’s gonna take more reliability to lift their resale value.
They should make the carnival an ev
Or even a hybrid and awd... would totally steal some of the sienna sales esp the ones the sienna shortage can't fill!
@@rhuynhwish I could find a sienna.
This is such a cool car and this is a great review of it 😎
EV9 - Model X - R1S… Yes!
3 row EV comparison for sure. Model X, Rivian and this. Yes I would cross shop them. You should get some cheap used car seats to install in the back seats. Super helpful for us family’s to see real world use.
Love the manual activate button for battery pre-conditioning and the regen paddle capabilities.
When it comes time to replace my Ioniq 5, this will be my top choice. 61,000 miles with zero problems. 3 round trips across North America. It’s been to 48 states and 6 Canadian provinces.
I appreciate your vids and have a EVGT6. I will wait for the EV9GT but want to trade my Kona N on the Ioniq 5 N. Can't wait for your test on that!
The car looks amazing!!!
Thank you, Kyle. I'm waiting for Ford's promised 3-row EV SUV, which should be available by the time I'm ready to turn back in my Mach-E GT in July 2026.
This looks really good. I hope they can put together a 2-Row EV/SUV with similar value. This one is just larger than I will ever need.
I have a telluride really love it and definitely want to check this out. One thing I can see already I wish they did better though was the frunk. Having one like Lucid did on the gravety will help me a lot on family road trips I can avoid the roof top carrier!
Very sharp! 1 st one I’ve seen.
This is the best car review channel on RUclips, period.
It's a fantastic car no doubt about, but for a couple of thousand more, $80,000, I'd get a Lucid Gravity. Gr8 vid as usual.🚗🇺🇸🔌⚡
I’m impressed with the video quality, all from an iPhone 🙌
I picked up my EV9 GT-Line last week from my dealer in France, I also have the excast same issue with the second row seat. I did go back to the dealer and they didnlt have a clue !! So this would indicate that this is a Kia issue. Hopefully they will resolve it soon. I also had to do a firmware update to get the wireless Carplay. Great videos, thank you
Interesting that this would happen more than once. I hope your issue gets resolved soon.
I'm still bound to my Model 3 for a while, but I will be ordering the EV9 soon. I hope you enjoy yours, from all I've seen it's an awesome vehicle!
Have you tried moving the driver seat forward first? Pretty sure the 2nd row seats won't fold down if it detects the driver seat is too far back and the headrest won't clear while folding.
Funny you should mention that, I was playing around with the infotainment unit and there is a function to fold the seat from there as well as the switch in the back. So I pressed the seat that wasnlt working and it displayed the message "driver seat too far forward" so I move the seat forward a little and it worked. I then tried to show the wife how cleaver I was, and with the front seat virtually touching the steering wheel it doesn't move. So it's definitely a Kia issue. The passenger seat can be way further back and when you the fold switch it moves the passenger seat to a position that doesn't prevent it from folding.
This is just totally random but I traded in my 2020 Hyundai Kona SEL Plus AWD and the factory Infinity audio system was amazing. Only 315 watts but the subwoofer and great speakers sounded so good in such a small car.
Someone in a Houston Tesla group I’m in got the gt-line in Dallas and drove it down to Houston a few days ago and charged on the way back and someone asked how it was and he said he maxed out at 275 kw on the EA 350 kw. No pics or videos to prove but he said it was rocking just fine and he loved it
Great review! The car looks amazing, I own an Ioniq 5 4WD, and I think this one is soon gonna replace it
That is a Supersized Soul EV (2020 Limited Trim that I have in Canada), mine had no issues since new other then 12volt battery, this is just an awesome camping vehicle and should prove to be super reliable!
Agree and great video this was actually phenomenal. But I agree on the dog component!!!!
Hint: set playback speed at 1.5. Thanks Kyle and Alyssa for the review! Nice work snagging the review car from the dealer; win / win for the dealer and for the channel.
I really want the Volvo EX90. I wonder how the leasing will differ to the EV9 at max spec
10:33 If I’m not mistaken, Kia’s pack voltage ratings are at around 0% SOC, so 552 V is 552 V dead. For comparison, the EV6 pack is rated at something like 697 V. Presumably this should stay in the “boost” regime the whole time.
I have the Land trim, it's sick. I have the tow package with air suspension out back. It has a standard size receiver and electrical hookup! It's a true "sport" utility vehicle. It's just huge inside, and I'm getting 300 miles of range in 40-50F.
Yes! Three way, three row EV SUV comparison please!
I seen the Kia dealership here in Dallas and it’s $81k for the LX. 😮💨😮💨😮💨
What dealer is this?!! Might as well get a Model X. Hoping the one in Frisco doesn't have it that extreme!!
For Kyle to be impressed it says a lot.
I hope this sells well and they bring the EV5 to the US. Smaller package with all this tech would be perfect
The reason for the 552VDC on the large pack: The max DC current on the small battery is 288 Amps. The max DC current on the large battery is 576 Amps. Whatever connection configuration they had, they just doubled it.
Wind is no problem with a cathedral on wheels like this - as long as it comes from the rear💨
Need a towing test too!
No “dog mode” but “Utility Mode” is a kin to it. Meant for staying inside the vehicle currently you need a mechanical key to lock/unlock the vehicle after exiting. I’ve used it in our IONIQ 5 after checking out of the hotel and before leaving town. Yes I want the vehicle to communicate the temperature or temperature change and directly to anyone looking in the vehicle. Functional but not reassuring is a summary that Hyundai/Kia could address simply. Nice to see a MSRP dealer. 👍🏼 1:15:10
I love mine. It’s soo good I keep waiting for the shoe to drop
Looking forward to receiving mine in 🇬🇧. We don’t get all the choices you have, only large battery and 3 different trims and with without 6 seats on GT Line S. The interestingly with the 6 seats in the UK the middle row doesn’t have the relaxation mode with the calf supports but they do rotate to face the back of the car.
Today … YES! I WILL PAY THAT FOR A KIA .
👍
About to watch this review. I'm hoping to replace my Chevrolet Traverse with this EV9. This Kia is about $20k more than the Chevy so It has to be good.
But they're very different vehicles
So fukin overpriced,
@@tonyn3227 Agree, prices have to come down to lure ICE buyers.
@tlangton yes, but greedy mfgs. Aren't focused on that, they just want high priced vehicles, so they can make huge profits on these. The one that ever makes $22k ev at 300mile range , will destroy all others , all this other crap, doesn't really mean anything for 80%.
@@tlangton I want to buy an EV9 too.
yes, do the 3 way, side by side comparison. particularly want to see the size comparison.
What a beautiful car👍
The regen stuff is just madness. full regen, half regen, no regen. Those are the only useful options. They spend so much time building stuff no one needs
Drove past a parked one in my small town in Wales, U.K today, actually surprised me that it didn’t seem as big as I expected. Kind of feel that they missed a trick - should have made it more off road capable, at least as an option.
Hi Kyle
Thanks for the review. I am debating the Polestar 3 vs the EX90 vs the Kia EV9.
What are your thoughts (and yes, I know the Polestar is only a five seater)?
I do like those cup holder in my eNiro. At that pricepoint they had to cut somewhere but I want one for my next family hauler
Manual Battery Preconditioning is a big deal! Please do more testing. Can you activate it with less than 20% SoC??? That has been a huge limitation for existing eGMP vehicles!!!
Appearantly it now actives over 10%. That's a lot better, but it should do it even lower if manually selected.
Ev9 vs MX would be nice!
Model X is so different in size it's like comparing an E golf to a 4 runner.
@@JonathanRootDthey're both available as 3 row SUVs
the purpose of the captain seats is so you can go to the 3rd row seats through the center aisle.
I know the autoregen mode from my I6, it not only changes regen based on distance to the front car it also seems to use map data to know the geometry of the road.
Def do the 3 row showdown video.
I'd say the charging limitations have to do with the GT spec specifically. Could be a similar situation to the Mach-E, where some of the associated components are similar across the range. And the additional thermal requirements needed for hard driving on the GT were not factored in, or it just didn't justify them making trim specific components.
Edit: OK, now seeing how the smaller battery is only on the lowest trim, that really is a head scratcher.
Great video! But will the Lucid Gravity be a better buy?
Kyle, what are your thoughts on the 2 recent cases in Canada where Ioniq5 vehicles were written off following relatively minor impacts with road debris and 60k replacement battery cost quoted? It seems that the GMP design may not have sufficient battery pack ptotection, and a sturdy plate may be required, like the one added to Model S years ago.
That’s an insurance issue, dealers are quoting $28-30k plus tax for a full pack replacement.
@michaelroshko7067 no, it's not. Both customers were quoted 60k replacement cost by Hyundai. The insurance wrote the vehicles off as battery replacement costs exceeded the value of the car
@@jamespaul2587 yes, as in that number being as high as it is is the result of an insurance claim. If you go to Hyundai and ask for a quote for a HV battery replacement on an eGMP car, it’ll hover around $28k.
@@michaelroshko7067dealers mark up that battery plus you got that dealer price ripoff of installation and removal prices they ripped price of 56k is legit lookup the RUclips videos
@michaelroshko7067 no, both dealers checked with Hyundai, and the cost was 60k. It has nothing to do with it being an insurance claim.
Great video!
Alyssa is so good with the camera!
Kia EV9 ---
0-60 mph acceleration: 7.7 seconds
Price: starts at $56,395 and goes up to $75,395
Range: up to 304 miles
On the Dog mode front, it doesn’t allow you to monitor the temperature, but you can put it into Utility Mode and it will run the cars HVAC system until you drain the battery. I use it on my Niro EV and it keeps the car ice cold in 110° Temperature. With Utility mode you have to restart the car to drive it, so if someone were to break in, they couldn’t drive your car away if you took the keys with you.
Looks like a new order storm trooper
