Hi Liz. I just finished doing my nails with the overlay technique and my nails are super strong. The gel application was so smooth. Thank you so much for your videos. 👍👍👍
Thanks to your demonstrations and explanations I am no longer afraid of using builder gel! It is now my PREFERRED medium for strengthening and extending my nails. I am 70, so I do only my nails, and only for my own pleasure. I have always had weak nails that would chip, split, and simply look inelegant. Mamma had lovely hands and nails, and now I so as well.
Best gel manicure video on youtube. Seriously. I've been a nail tech for 5 years and am always researching techniques to improve my skill level. You just did that!!
Thank you for making this process so easy. I have learned so much about gel since seeing your videos. I'm no longer intimidated by hard gel. I finally tried it today and was surprised at how easy it actually was to use gel and create an apex. You are a great teacher.
I was about to throw away all my gels I was so discouraged trying to do my own nails for years. I tried this technique laying the gel only on the middle of the finger instead or all over the nail bed and finally!!!!!! I have never taken such a short amount of time to do my nails and the result is not only beautiful it's amazing!!!! Thank you so very much for this video!
So glad I found this channel. I stopped going to gel my nails done at the salon. I was never entirely happy with the service I received and now I understand why. I learned so much from watching Liz's videos. I use to take a nail file with me to my appointments and fix my nails in the bathroom. I do overlays all the time now. I haven't perfected it but happier than when I got them done in a salon.
Claire here, during the Pandemic! I'm a "DIYer" with zip ZERO skills! I watch a lot of different nail educators, and your educational videos are OUTSTANDING 🤩! I keep coming back to your channel, just superb girl!! You are really helping me learn and get over my fears, especially working on my non-dominant ✋. Your descriptions & demos regarding angles, pressure, and speeds are totally helpful. Thank you!!
I absolutely love doing an Gel Overlay on my natural nails. I'm able to keep them a longer length without them breaking, plus it's really nice to have underneath darker regular polish, because it doesn't stain on the gel (being that our natural nails are more porous :) )
I had an "Aha!" moment when you demonstrated exactly how to apply the gel to allow it to self-level. I'd heard of floating the gel, but I didn't understand exactly how to do it until now, thanks!
Id like to thank you so much for doing such in depth tutorials online, you help so many people like myself who did classes but didn't feel like I got enough knowledge from them in order to be confident enough with my work to pursue nails as a career. With these videos its amazing because we can constantly refresh ourselves to make sure we are doing nails the correct way. I love how much you specify how important your prep work is and also the health and safety surrounding doing nails as I found not everywhere focus on how important this is. I love your videos and i look forward to seeing more.
Hi Liz, I've been binge watching all week, I've learned so much from you, thank you for being so thorough with every technique. I really am enjoying all the information, I hope to feel comfortable to at least do my families nails as well as my own. I actually just came into this due to covid regulations about staying home. I'm 60yrs old, and if I could do this for family & friends, it would help me to focus on something during the winter months as I'm an avid gardener.
I wish I had someone like you near me. I cannot find anybody to do nails like you properly. I see so many women walking around with horrible looking nails. Nobody looks at the real shape in Apex and C curve of a nail anymore.that is absolutely BEAUTIFUL work! Know anyone in Austin Texas that does work like you?
Liz, you're honestly the best nail teacher out there, hands down. And you even take all the time to do these awesome informative videos for us to have for free. Thank you from Chile
Oh, thank you so much! I have had nail problems all of my life and have tried every type of nail strengthener on the market. My nails are cut down to the skin, yet they still split, and vertically so it can be very painful at times. This is my next attempt to solve my nail problems. Thanks again. I have subscribed and imagine will go on to learn much more from you.
Oh My!!!! I just found a person that understands about that apex/curve im always talking about when i go to do nails!!!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻tks for this video!!!
I know this video Is a year old but it's perfect for me right now. I'm a diy and so going to go to school to be liscence for this. I'm learning about gel. And this video helps me so much and provides sp much knowledge for me to be able to do an application. I love your videos!
you really are so incredible. this information and the way you format and explain things is so valuable. Thank you for raising the standards of the industry!! xxx
I appreciate your attention to detail and how you cover and explain everything. Thank you for that. I am doing a overlay tomorrow and thank you for your tips and instruction.
I absolutely love your videos. You are an excellent teacher. You are clear and concise. I would LOVE to connect with you. I will be watching alllll your videos and taking notes. I had my license 20 years ago and accidentally let it expire. I recently determined with the ptsd that my children and I have, its best for me to be self employed AND it needed to be doing something I enjoy. Nails are art... my work will Also be a form of therapy! I would love to know your favorite system and Light but maybe I will find that in one of your videos. Thank you so much. You inspire me.
Thank you so much for all the explanations you provide. I am new to the gel applications because most of my clientele want nontoxic or no polish whatsoever. But I have started using Biosculpture and am having issues with the dips in the center - and now I know why!!! :) TY TY TY!
I am so excited you were so detailed in this video. Out of all videos watched this one is by far the best and actually explains things to a tee. Thank u so much for that. I actually accomplished my first hand on natural nails and right. Lol
achieved the same thing using OPI in 20 mins lol.. don't get me wrong, you are a complete nail magician that most of us will never be but, I find people are overdoing it with all these new gel-like methods ... still love watching your videos to help us novices doing this for fun
Because of your videos, I am an acrylic to gel convert. I am brand new at hard gels and I am wondering about overlay application… Your side walls are nice and thin. With acrylic application, if the product to thin it will lift. Is this the case with hard gel as well? Thank you so much for everything!
More great, great knowledge! Hoping one day my natural nails will be of a length where they’ll still look nice just doing a gel overlay for strength, and then color how I want. Thank you, Liz!
Hi! Thank you for your lovely, detailed videos! Making me realize I have no business trying to do "at-home" gel nails from a kit. My nails are short, thin, and peel and break. I purchased the Zoya Gelie Cure kit and it didn't work for me, probably because I didn't know what I was doing. Do you have a suggestion for an at-home kit that's easy for the average person? Thanks in advance! :)
Great video! Happy to see videos with kokoist products, as it's so hard to find any information on these as it's Japanese.. Love The Nail Hub, as you are such perfectionist explaining every little thing! Very much appreciated! Thanks!
Holy man ur awesome, ur explanation as to what and why are awesome awesome!!! Love ur style of teaching. Im learning alot. Thanku. I had my nails done yesterday Absolutely hate them yuck. Sooo i filed the topcoat and french tip. Thank god. And filed them perfectly!! Yeah why pay and have a serious awful result.
I have a skin tone that is not very friendly with many many colors. This one is my favorite! I get sooooo many compliments. I also get people saying it is a light grey, other say it is lilac (like the white and gold vs black and blue dress). Love it!
Thanks. I haven’t done my nails in probably 2 years and had forgotten what to do, but a couple of days ago I smashed my natural nail straight into the wooden edge of a garden bed and the break line is a good 1/4 inch down the nail bed. It’s lifting enough on the edge that it will catch in my hair etc, but if I try to pull it off it’s going to be bloody. So I have to do an overlay until it grows out enough to cut off. It’s not going to be as neat as yours as I’ll need a bump over the crack. Meh. Better than a massacre lol.
Hi Liz, I just wanted to ask you about soak-off builder gel removal using acetone and foil wraps/manual file. Have you ever had to do this, and what are your recommendations regarding soak-off removal with builder gel? I realise it's better to backfill, but if a client needs to go back to bare nails I'd like some idea of how to proceed safely without e-filing. Thanks so much for all your wonderfully informative and professional videos!
Your channel is so helpful. I received a gel kit over the holiday and have been turning to your channel for help and 🙆🏽♀️!!!! It’s like I’m a pro thanks to you
I usually tell people just get something in the middle so you can use it on everything. I use 180 grit on everything I do so I don't have to buy multiple grits/files. As a professional nail tech who has to budget every dime it's important to be efficient and I have found that 180 is gentle enough for natural nails as well as powerful enough for filing on gel.
Love your videos, still have only practiced with bottled gel polish over natural nails. I have done my own (with gel) only about 5 to 6 times and on 3 friends. I try to do a few layers of base gel but I would like to try a gel overlay with thinner potted gel polish. There are few beauty supply places here in Ecuador and when I can get some stuff on Amazon, I do. I like short nails so this is a great video. SO detailed.
Love the videos and information you provide. They have been so helpful. Would this technique work for nails that tend to split at the free edge center?
Hi! This video was incredibly useful for me. I have very thin nails that bend and break even if short, with overlay they are perfect. I was wondering though when you have longer natural nails almond shape, how do you do the free edge and the side of the nails? Thats where the color application is not the most precise for me. Thanks from Hungary ❤️
OMG! How helpful and simple is that reflections/lines technique?!! I'll never know it all... And I love that! Learning little things like this keeps me going. Yesterday I was going to "quit" school because my mind is so overwhelmed with gel vs. hard gel vs. builder gel and polygel and base coat and blah blah. I am a kick-ass colorist and I can do some serious hair but I feel like nails are gonna break me! 😭 Anyway. I now realize I'm going on and on in a comment, when I just wanted to say thank you (and hallelujah!) for this video! 😂❤️
Hi , Liz. Thank you very much for doing these very informative videos. They’re so valuable! I’m fairly new to gel and I’ve been doing a gel overlay on my own nails for the past few months. Sometimes I use regular nail polish over top and remove with acetone. Other times I use gel and file off the color before filling the growth. The repairs I’d made on cracked and broken nails have now grown out and I wanted to remove all product and start fresh. This is where I’m having a problem. It takes me FOREVER to soak off the gel! I filled off all the color and then soaked in acetone. For the first hand I checked every 10 minutes or so. Each time I could push off some product but not that much. Took about an hour for each hand. The second hand I let set for 45 minutes before checking. I never did get off everything, although the majority of it. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. Right from the beginning I’ve had problems getting off the gel. My overlay was Luxio base coat followed by Akzentz Shine-On. Is the top coat where I’m doing it wrong? Should I be using the builder gel for my overlay, instead? I appreciate the help, thanks.
I've always had that issue as well, with acrylic, gel, ... whatever. Doesn't matter the product. And I've only done it on myself, I haven't been under the pressure of doing it on a client. Thanks for your great question - I look forward to seeing the replies. :)
This has always been my problem, loooooooong soak-offs! I finally got desperate and ordered a steam-off unit (using acetone). World of difference. It’s cut my removal time by half if not more. My unit is by Madam Glam that I got for 60% off last year, but you can get cheaper units from Amazon that work just fine.
Seriously though.. it takes me forever to soak off the hard gel I use on my nails. I like to keep my nails blunt on the ends because I am constantly handling my special needs son. I just recently went through the pains of soaking it all off, but I had filed most of it off and it still seemed to take forever.
I'm wondering if the Akzentz Top Gloss has hard gel properties? One of my Google searches showed it as non-porous and non-staining, which from what I understand from watching Liz's tutorials, means it's not a soak off product (hard gels aren't porous). She has shown how to soak off hard gels that have been layered over a soak off (porous) base, by filing through enough of the hard gel to make it look like swiss cheese.
I saw a Kokoist bundle on The Nail Hub and I wanted to see the size of the gels! Do you think you can do a brief video on that! Tfs and Happy New Year!
Wonderful video. You're such a great teacher, you explain everything in such detail. I've followed the links to the products but everything is showing as sold out, even down to the nail files. When will we be able to buy the products?
Great video and lovely nails!! I use the same oil with the brush and just apply to nail then rub around all the skin and nail, that way no need to worry about contamination with the brush.
Hi Liz. I just finished doing my nails with the overlay technique and my nails are super strong. The gel application was so smooth. Thank you so much for your videos. 👍👍👍
Hi rona
Where did you purchase the products for gel overlay? Also do you need a dust collector for that? Thanks!

About to do a gel overlay on my nails as a protective layer… your videos are so helpful and informative 💐💐💐
Thank you
Liz, you're honestly the best nail teacher out there, hands down. And you even take all the time to do these awesome informative videos for us to have for free. Thank you from Chile
I love that you can use it as an overlay. I'm trying to grow out my natural nails but they are a bit weak.
Mine are weak too, from dip nail application at a salon...she also applied very close to cuticle!!😡
Thanks to Mrs Liz it won't take us years to obtain this valuable information!

You have such perfection in your work! Thank you for taking the time to make this video and show all of your steps 😊💕
I love doing gel overlays plus they grow so fast
Good instructions. I appreciate how thorough you are for a novice such as myself
Yay we’re finally getting to gel application!!!
I am so excited you were so detailed in this video. Out of all videos watched this one is by far the best and actually explains things to a tee. Thank u so much for that. I actually accomplished my first hand on natural nails and right. Lol
The mohawk is exactly the trick I needed! Great video Liz thank you
You are such a perfectionist. A real joy to watch.
Thank you! I love your technique about a higher rpm and a lighter touch. Definitely better on the hands 🤗😍👏

This is super informative and very helpful! I'd like to see an overlay done on longer natural nails to see if the technique is any different.
I hope you know how useful and helpful your teachings are to us newbies. "Free edge no thicker than a credit card." I LOVE THAT ADVICE!!!
We need a studio tour Mrs. Liz!
That was so good! Thank you ♥️
Waouhhhh super all the details you explain !!! Thank you very much for showing.

I love your lecture slides
SO BEAUTIFUL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
your model has a perfect nailbed!
I have said it before on another tutorial (the Spanish one) but I have to say it again. I love the IBX Boost for this, it is amazing!
Good video. Good teaching. Very helpful tips. Thank you 😊 .
Thank you for this...its exactly what my nails need!

Thank you for making and sharing this detailed video! I came with many questions about gel nails and I learnt so much from this. :)
Thank you for sharing. 💕 looking forward to next weeks video on changing the colour
I love your teaching style - concise, articulate, crystal clear! Thank you for demystifyingthe technique.
Do you take requests? :)
You are an amazing teacher.
What is the brand and color name??? It's is so beautiful on her delicate nails
Your channel is so helpful. I received a gel kit over the holiday and have been turning to your channel for help and 🙆🏽♀️!!!! It’s like I’m a pro thanks to you
Liz, could you please make a video on how to choose the file grain for artificial and natural nails? Thank you so much, you’re such a great teacher!
You have explained everything in detail. Great job. Thank you!
I'm catching up with your videos. My technique will definitely improve now that I have more understanding on the application🤞
Love the videos and information you provide. They have been so helpful. Would this technique work for nails that tend to split at the free edge center?
Yes overlays are excellent for protecting and sealing nails that are prone to splitting.
Do you have any tip to apply with the non-dominant hand?
I subscribe to quite a few channels (not nails), but yours is the only one I get notifications for. Ring that bell 😉❗
Liz, please do an overly with nail art stickers and flat charms!
Anyway. I now realize I'm going on and on in a comment, when I just wanted to say thank you (and hallelujah!) for this video! 😂❤️
The only reason I look forward to
Monday’s
Lol-I know-right?
Beautiful work. Every detail made perfect.
What type of brush are you using to apply the gel polish? Looks so slick!
That color is gorgeous!
SO BEAUTIFUL / I WOULD NEVER FILE THEM OFF !
Awesome!! good stuff, can't wait until next week.
I luv your videos Luz! I really like your thorough expkanations!
Tfs 💜💖💜💖💜I keep an overlay on myself even after my nails grow out! So much easier than soak off. Plus only way they won't break on me.
GORGEOUS WORK !!!!!!!!!!!! I WISH I COULD DO MY NAILS LIKE YOU DID THESE / GORGEOUS !!!!!!!!!!!!
Excellent informative video, thank you!
Just what I wanted to see, looking forward to watch infill and change of color video. Thank you :)
Thank you my dear.I look forward learning more. You are amazing.
I am a beginner. My thought when I am looking at this video - do I remove this gel with acetone? 😊
Great video and lovely nails!! I use the same oil with the brush and just apply to nail then rub around all the skin and nail, that way no need to worry about contamination with the brush.
Thanks Liz. This is how I like to do my nails. The tips will help me make improvements.
They look really nice 🙂 .
