- Key advice for prepping shoes to be painted! 🎨 👟 Prep is the most important step to having a durable custom!
@chuchu.art nailed it with this video 🙌 Check out what she has to say about how she likes to prep sheos for the best results when painting below...
"1. Acetone
I acetone my shoes twice, once before sanding, and after sanding! Acetone will remove and soften the factory paint & leather, so wiping it with acetone BEFORE sanding makes the sanding more effective.
2. Sanding
I use a 400 Grit sanding paper. Sanding is VERY important to ensure your paint properly grips onto your canvas, I make sure to really get the areas where creasing occurs on the shoes (Side-toe area, toe box) Try your best to not sand over the stitching !!
When I have a design with darker/pigmented colours, i’ll even go as far to sand until I see a little bit of grey, do not sand that far if you plan on painting it over with white/yellow/neons on top, as it will require multiple layers to cover up the grey.
3. Acetone
I wipe it with a cotton pad AND some Q-tips to get all the small corners.
4. Paintable repair filler (Optional)
This step is if you remove the nike swoosh. I use the paintable repair filler to fill in all the holes left behind the swoosh, this results in a smooth flat canvas. Skipping this step will have your paint sink into the holes as you’re painting! Repeat 2-3 times, while letting it dry in-between.
5. Cleaning up imperfections
Optional, but I like to clip excess strings/material from the shoe that was left from the factory, for a well manicured shoe.👟
6. Sanding #2
Once the filler has dried, I go in with a 1500-800 grit sanding paper to smooth out any excess product to ensure a completely flat surface.
7. Flat white paint
Brush off the debris left from the sanding, AND remove small particles by taping it out (take a piece of tape, stomp it on your canvas). Use FLAT white paint and paint a light layer over your design area. It is important to use FLAT white and not regular white paint, because the flat white dries MATTE, and makes drawing on the shoe more effective.
8. Draw
Lead will grip on better with the FLAT white paint, if you need to erase, use an ELECTRIC eraser, a regular eraser might smudge your design! "
Just used this last night on a pair of shoes, restoring them back to factory look.
Post raw uncut footage of these customs sometimes. We find that interesting🙌🏾

What’s the first liquid you put on? And what sander are you using ??
So everyone knows you have to fill those holes 3 times so they stay filled if you only fill them once it will cave in the holes and holes will show fyi 😊
I just painted my first pair but I only used deglazer/cotton balls. Am I supposed to sand paper it too or was it because the design is an actual drawing?
You can use either or, but lots of people use both to ensure the best prep possible!
Will the paint peel off after we wash when dirt sits on those surfaces?
No you can clean them just like any shoes!
I have a clean pair of Invincible 3s. Flyknit upper foam sole. After axetone the shoe clean just start with the paint? All these videos are for leather kicks AF1
can we paint badminton shoes? especially on the sole where it says non marking (special material so it doesn't leave marks on the field floor)
We do not recommend painting the soles of shoes unless they are leather, or wood bottoms.
Bro what's that liquid you're using to clean
Any cook will tell you, you can't make an omelette without breaking some eggs.
I wouldn't paint the midsole
is it possible to do it w/o prep
If you paint your shoes without prepping, the paint will most likely not be able to properly bond. You will want to at least do 3-5 passes with Angelus Preparer & Deglazer or acetone
@@AngelusBrand ok, thank you!
I watched one of your videos where you said your paint wasnt suitable for midsole but you're painting it here...
what the size of sand paper
The grit depends on what you are working on. Most will start with 800.

Vinyl tape
