    We have been living off-grid for 3 years and we compost. We have tried every medium available and prefer the horse bedding pellets by far over any other options! We use a large stock pot with a toilet seat sitting on top. It doesn't divert the urine but the pellets do a great job of soaking it up. The pellets work the best at eliminating any odors. Although the method we have been using works great...I am interested in this cool crapper Trelino! Chitting in style! 😜🤣♥️ Thanks for the great humor!

    • @tennesseewanderer
      @tennesseewanderer  Год назад +1

      LMAO!!! And yes, I find the pellets work best, too! The coconut core and small animal litter is said to work best with this toilet, but I can't get away from the pellets. This toilet is a game changer for waste management on the road. I've heard nothing, but good things about your method either. Both are some of the most hygienic methods that you can use for this lifestyle.

    If I was looking for a new toilet, this one is tempting! For now, though, my homemade separating potty works fine: auto funnel going into a jug in the front of the bucket, doubled plastic bags with coconut coir/cedar chips in back. No odor, easy to dump, cost $29 for a luggable loo (bucket and seat), $6 for the funnel, plus the trash bags and dry medium. I add some vinegar when I empty the jug to keep down odors.

    • @tennesseewanderer
      @tennesseewanderer  6 месяцев назад

      Those work well, too! I was going to attempt something similar before I got the Trelino. I love the way this one separates and it keeps solids dry which cuts down odor. I don't know if I could be as savvy to recreate it on my own. Glad you figured it out!

    Question? I'm wondering if it works as great as you are advertising it to be due to the perineum area? I've yet to use mine because I'm questioning it.

    • @tennesseewanderer
      @tennesseewanderer  10 месяцев назад +1

      I think it works way better than a cassette toilet. I only used my cassette for #1... It was a bit of a challenge and kinda grimy to doggy bag my own waste. I find that the perineum area is easy to use just so long as you think about product placement. Lol! You may have to slide slightly forward to make sure you keep everything in the urine separator, but I haven't had any trouble hitting the back end. Everyone is slightly different with how it fits, but it works well for me. If you do have a little tinkle that doesn't make it into the urine separator, that's what the litter or pellets are there for. It will help dry it out and absorb it to keep it mostly odor free. I hope that helps answer your question!

    There's an even better system Joolca GottaGo. I like how it was thought out enough to have tools inside the container that you pack up before you hit the road in addition having options for dry flush and pouring it into a system. Also the pee thing has a cap to prevent splashes around when on the road (again stored inside the box). Also it's cheaper than this system. It doesn't look as nice as this one but why do I care it's not where I'm setting this up for design

      Sorry for the serious delay. They are both similar in concept. I think I like the Trelino because you can pick the size you want to maximize your spacial requirements. The Boxio is currently only in one size and one look. The Trelino gives you a few more options with the size and esthetics. I have not personally used a Boxio, so it's hard to speak to without testing it out. I'm sure it's very similar to the Trelino in design... I just like being able to have choices and opinions.

      It looks like they had it unavailable on Amazon in Canada, but I was able to look at it. It looks like a neat design. I wonder why it's not available anymore and what the price point would be? Until then, I'm happy with Trelino and its simplicity when dealing with waste on the road and in a small space. I get that it's not for everyone.

  • @harrymills2770
    @harrymills2770 7 месяцев назад

    I think the price point is pretty ridiculous. That's my only beef.
    The Trelino website sells liquid waste and solid waste canisters separately. I plan to make a box and add a toilet seat that fits flush with the top of the box. Great big funnel for liquid waste. I think I'm at about $50 for the whole thing, including extra lid and membrane closure for the liquid waste canister.
    I'll probably go with horse bedding pellets for the litter.
    I just don't see paying $500 for a molded plastic box. I can make a box. The main "innovation" is keeping liquid and solids separate, and that's easy enough to do, once you've seen a store-bought composting toilet.

    • @tennesseewanderer
      @tennesseewanderer  6 месяцев назад

      Agreed! For people like me, I don't have the innovation to make something similar that would fit in my camper the way this one does. I love its functionality and esthetic. I totally get that a bucket and innovation can go a long way, I took the path of least resistance with something that works well for me. If I didn't have the Trelino, I'd definitely be trying to come up with something different. I had a cassette toilet previously and would not put solid waste in it making it easier to keep clean and less odor, but that could also present challenges. I love this set up. Glad you were able to find another option! 💛

      Hey there! Thank you for the insight. I did check it out. It looks like it only comes in one size for the one that doesn't require electric. The other major difference I noticed was that there is no bucket for the bag of waste. If you are using composting bags, they could start to leak or breakdown after 3 days if you are unable to change them frequently. I like the idea of having a separate container to house the waste just in case there is some kind of unforeseen breakdown in compostable bags. That could lead to a big mess. Other than that, it looks like a great alternative! If you need something a little more budget friendly, it's a good option.

    Ok buuuuuuut....
    'Keeping your waste out of nature’, -and instead throwing it in the *landfill*, is definitely NOT sustainable or ‘green’. 🥴
    Besides the saving water aspect, there’s really not a whole lot about these COMPOST toilets (they’re not **composting** toilets) which is sustainable, when you’re not using them as intended, i.e., dumping your waste in an actual compost pile, with the intention of composting it.
    If you’re just throwing it in the landfill, then …. 😬 Yeah. Not great.
    But at least you're using a compostable breath instead of a plastic one!! So thank you and kudos to you for that!

    • @tennesseewanderer
      @tennesseewanderer  Год назад

      You are not wrong. There is a particular way that you have to compost human waste. I will keep using the compostable bags and pit toilets when available as much as I can. People don't even bother to bury their waste half the time. It's quite disgusting. There are so many ways to look at this concept. I'd rather people throw out their waste in a landfill than leave it for others to stumble upon in nature. Waste management is definitely difficult to do the exact right way in this lifestyle, but we can take small steps until we find the perfect solution. This is one of the best solutions I've found. I recycle and do what I can to counter my negative impact wherever I can. The good the bad and the ugly of waste management on the road.

    • @tennesseewanderer
      @tennesseewanderer  6 месяцев назад

      It depends on your needs and your own innovation. They are much less than a traditional composting toilet and much more than a bucket with cedar chips ... It's a middle ground and I love the separator... It keeps things dry and odor free. But yes, they can be pricey depending on your situation.

      @tennesseewanderer  10 месяцев назад +2

      It is a lot less pricey than a traditional composting toilet. If this is a lifestyle for you and you are living in a primitive compact space, this is absolutely perfect! You just have to determine whether it suits your needs and if it would be worth the investment. I would never go back to a cassette toilet after using the Trelino. It all comes down to your personal preferences and situation whether this investment is right for you. Hope that helps!

      Lol! I couldn't stop giggling while having a crappy/informative potty talk. 😂 The bags are pretty durable, but if you are exceeding the 4 day mark on changing it out if it's not full or smelly yet, that's when you run into issues and only a small amount of seepage, nothing major... It's just better to have the durable black bags if you are possibly exceeding that 4 day mark in changing them.
