Lyrics:
For the joy of innocence
Dreaming things that don’t make sense
Keep me as child
And for the things we’ve left behind
The space between our heart and mind
Keep me as a child
For we’ve grown older than our God
We’ve grown older than our God
But you are forever young
Bright morning star, unsetting sun
You are forever young
Hear our Father singing out to us
When we’ve grown older than our God
For the gift of mountains high
Of open fields and running wild
Keep me as a child
For the times we've locked our doors
Built up walls and started wars
Keep me as a child
Oh we’ve grown older than our God
Love is Running
Toward the shadows
Dying, rising
Like an echo
Growing younger
In surrender
I'm letting go
Eternity is in His blood
When we’ve grown older than our God
Eternity is running through my blood
When we’ve grown older than our God
“Because children have abounding vitality, because they are in spirit fierce and free, therefore they want things repeated and unchanged. They always say, "Do it again"; and the grown-up person does it again until he is nearly dead. For grown-up people are not strong enough to exult in monotony. But perhaps God is strong enough to exult in monotony. It is possible that God says every morning, "Do it again" to the sun; and every evening, "Do it again" to the moon. It may not be automatic necessity that makes all daisies alike; it may be that God makes every daisy separately, but has never got tired of making them. It may be that He has the eternal appetite of infancy; for we have sinned and grown old, and our Father is younger than we.”
― G. K. Chesterton, Orthodoxy

This man has the ability to speak into so much of what I'm feeling that it's terrifying 😳 Are you bugging my house? Thank you Chris for being real and sharing your heart through your art. God bless you
That familiar force is the Holy Spirit in us singing our feelings in this young man. What a glorious God we have!

4/10:
Love is running, at the same pace towards the same mission.
It's an awesome song wonderful beautiful God is greater it touch me deep the love of our God Amen Holy Shalom

what does it mean for us to grow older than our God?
I think the idea is that God is eternal, but not old, and there is a big difference. Those who get old are those who age and decay. God is eternal. His life and vitality is ever-fresh. He is not calloused by age and He does not decay. He is not affected by age, and that is the difference between His eternality and our mortality. That is why the last bridge of this song is incredible, since His eternality is graced to us as a gift as we trust Him we inherit eternal life.
Brayden Brookshier thank you! very nicely said!
I love how this song can be interpreted in different ways. To me it reminds me that God calls us to be as little children and he is our Father. It's a reminder not to outgrow our childlike faith. Having the faith of a child and keeping our eyes on Him trusting him we can be rid of heavy burdens and free as He wants all His children to be. We don't have to worry about what lies ahead because He never changes and He is sovereign in all seasons.
Hannah Talbot yes that makes sense too! i really like that thought process!
I really appreciate the other explanations. I had the same question when I first heard the song. After listening more, I took it to mean that even though sometimes we feel like we've "outgrown" our faith as if we've matured to a point where trusting in God's promises is "childish," God has been faithful in rejoicing and singing over us as his children all along. We may struggle to keep pursuing him, but he never falters. It's a plea for God to keep us young in our faith and never "outgrow" faithfully pursuing him as he pursues us. Definitely my favorite song on the new album!
Me encantan tus canciones!!!!
I think Forever Young, would be a catchier title :) Love the song
