Say you guys were to up the anti and build a gigantic series of vacuums for a VacTrain. What kind of energy consumption would you be looking at to maintain a full vacuum of a 6 foot diameter, 1 mile long tube?
Why the Diffstak series pumps are so expensive? I understand the cost of a turbomolecular pump because it requires precision machining of intricate shapes and a lot of engineering. However a 135L/s diffusion pump 8k dollars?!?! yet a turbo pump of the competition of similar size albeit much lower pumping speed is around 5k dollars What the hell! diffusion pumps are basically a pipe with a heater on the bottom and the vapor ejector assemblies aren't significantly more complex than the internals of a car exhaust muffler. Seems i will not be able to complete my vacuum system due this obscene prices :( what a bunch of greedy bastards.
Ninjas doing science....MY GOD!

I own an Edwards XDS35i. If you are interested in acquiring it for substantially less than any market price, let me know.
because there is a limited pool of customers, like most lab equipement, so the price is increased accrodingly.
What!!!
