    LYRICS
Ships in the night on a Tangier shore
    Flashing signals back and forth
Old hands on the smuggler's run
    Mexican drugs and American guns
The pay is better than jiggin' a line
Or wasting away in a deep coal mine
A regular guy getting what he can
    A 21st century unemployed man
Even though they'll never catch me
They never have and they never will
I'm the ghost on the eastern seaboard
Living the life, getting my fill.
I wish my daddy could see me now
He withered away at the furrow and plough
He hoped for his boy like every man does
To become the man he never was
My brother called me from the city today
Told me his boy was blown away
    The shiretown is overrun
With Mexican drugs and American guns
Even though they'll never catch me
They never have and they never will
I'm the ghost of the eastern seaboard
Blood on my hands, riddled with guilt

This is truly one of the best folk Gangster songs of all time. The fact that it grows out of Nova Scotia is even better. The Stanfields are still highly underrated. I pray more people find their music.

Grew up about an hour from Tangier. Maritime outlaws of the 90 s were absolutely about Mexican drugs and American guns.

Great, powerful song. I just discovered this band tonight, and I refuse to go to sleep until I've heard the whole album on here. Good Canadian kids! (as Don would say) Also, my fave brand of underwear

Stanfields kicking some serious Canadian arse...yes indeed. This song is right up there with Edmund Fitzgerald in my books

I just want to sit on a dock somewhere, with a cigarette and a mile-long stare...
But I live in Missouri, no docks here.

people need to visit the eastern canadian coast more. it's beautiful. the ultimate camp sight. lol beaches, forests, hunting fishing, nice rivers to swim in, waterfalls in the middle of the forests, cool ocean night breezes, bonfires, some of the funniest, friendliest people you could meet. see it people

Just got my permanent residency here. Married to a Nova Scotian. I can't think of another place I'd rather be! The place is beautiful, the people fantastic. If you can't get to live here, at least visit :)

@@ADayintheLifeoftheTw my 3yr old daughter always begs to listen to this so I listen to it pretty regularly. Her favorite part is the chorus “even though they’ll never catch me...” which she screams at the top of her lungs. I need another song to connect onto this for a complete story though.

It's ironic, being nova scotian and thinking Tangier wasn't the nova scotian one but the Moroccan Tangier, Also a hub of gun and drug smuggling.
