    Thanks for watching! For those interested, CleverLUTs were used extensively for this video, which are also available at www.cleverghost.net/ . I've been using CleverSunset a lot recently because of the summer sun, can't wait for more overcast weather. Do you have a favorite look or scene?

    You’ve got to give the new sigma 28-45 1.8 lens a trial. I’ve always been an exotic prime guy (otus, milvus, Leica apo) and the sigma is absolutely in their company. I don’t know if it’s a one-off or if this is a new direction for sigma, but the colors/rendering don’t look like their other lenses.
    Think of it as a 35mm with some freedom to punch in or pull out a bit, but not enough leeway that it feels there are too many options on hand. It’s a solid creative restriction balance imo.
    Plus de-clicked aperture and no focus breathing.
    And they just announced the cine version for L and E mount.
    I’m very much a believer in the somewhat intangible fairy dust in rendering of high end zeiss/leica lenses, there’s always comments in reviews that “my Nikon, sigma, Sony etc lens is just as good for 1/5th the price” and I just think “ok you can save money if you don’t see the difference, I do and I’m willing to pay a premium for it”.
    Anyway Sigma just casually shat out an otus zoom for $1349, and there seems to be little talk about it over the “limited range” complaints

    • @cleverghostchili
      @cleverghostchili  4 дня назад +1

      yes, when i first saw footage from that lens i was shocked. It has the 3d pop, and no one else besides some others in my community that rented has recognized it. Sigma has always made great lenses, but that one is really special for cinematography and has all the best focal lengths too. It also kinda confuses me when people say the difference is only 10%. 10% is the difference between hobbyist and professional, even a 5% difference in match win rate in professional tennis separates champions

I shoot on S35 most of the time, so I end up on the Otus 28 and Milvus 35/1.4 a lot. Or maybe the Classic 21 and/or 25 if I need a smaller, lighter lens. Big fan of your work, Marko! Absolutely gorgeous stuff.

    • @AndrewDaddy
      @AndrewDaddy 4 дня назад +1

      Just a word I wished I knew before I bought two Leica sl apo primes. The wider you go, the more the difference in the thin sensor cover glass will affect the lens performance. So more of a dip if you aren’t shooting Leica bodies.
      I saw some side by sides of the 28mm on an S1R vs an Sl2 and the difference was clear. I imagine 50mm and tighter would be negligible.

      @@AndrewDaddy Oh, thanks! That IS crucial info. A bit surprising that the L-mount alliance did not standardize that aspect. Maybe for them it's a differentiator.

    I would say most of the time 2 lenses are better than one. But for specific projects just sticking to one can make a statement (in terms of look, and never being distracted by having other options). Something else I like to do is use one prime, but punch in with Blackmagic to a lower resolution which effectively crops in for a tighter FOV

    • @cleverghostchili
      @cleverghostchili  5 дней назад +2

      Sure, I kinda lost my mind for this video with the hotel room low light scene, way too dark for RUclips because of banding. But yes I have at least 3 good tips for lowlight composition and technique at the top of my head if I can think of more content I’ll try to do a feature video if not small one. 3 tips, have a bright backlight like window. There’s no darkness without light, and it also helps with noise. I like to use soft focus, so focusing on a cabinet rather than the main subject. I think it looks weird when everything is too sharp at night, that’s not emotionally how my eyes feel for me. Low iso. Don’t raise your shadows and try to aim for around 400 iso to force more light into the scene. Keep shadows black as much as possible

    pls can you tell me how to get the anamorphic aspect ratio like you did, in dv

    • @cleverghostchili
      @cleverghostchili  5 дней назад

      Hi, you simply divide the horizontal resolution of your video by the desired aspect ratio to get the vertical resolution. The anamorphic aspect ratio is 2.39:1 or 2.4:1, so you would divide 3840, 4096 or 6048 by 2.39 or 2.4 to get the vertical resolution, which you would enter manually. Make sure it is a whole even number. So 3840/2.39=1606, so your resolution would be 3840x1606. 6048/2.4=2520, so 6048x2520.

    hi how do you get the shaky but still good running footage at 0:03 what stabilization mode?

    • @cleverghostchili
      @cleverghostchili  2 дня назад

      Actually for running shots like these you don’t want stabilization because you want that energetic shakiness. It comes down to technique. You ideally want a top handle but I didn’t have that here so you bend your knees and use momentum of running to push the camera forward so there are less vertical and horizontal shakes. Heavy lens, soft hands and blackmagic ergonomics are also helpful here. If I did use stabilization I would use camera gyro 0 strength

      @@cleverghostchili thanks alot , so when a camera like the FX3 has ibis it's better to turn it off in this case?

    • @cleverghostchili
      @cleverghostchili  2 дня назад

      I would strongly consider turning off ibis when running or walking. It depends if you want the energetic feel of shaky running footage. The only ibis I really trust is Panasonics, the rest are only okay when standing still. As for rolling shutter while moving that’s subjective you generally want lower rolling shutter but maybe some people like the softness of motion blur?

      what i like the most is to really feel the walking or running without making the footage unusable, i hate the look of gimballs it looks fake/too stable for my liking.
      panasonic has the best ibis in the market but the issue is it has alot of wobble if you don't enable the electronic IS. the center is perfectly stable but the corners wobble and make the footage look really bad, i hope they fix this with upcoming S1H mark 2 without the need of the huge crop in ES high

      I get what you saying and agree to a certain extent when it comes to shaky footage and action scenes. But filmmaking is very subjective a shot that you may feel would look better stable somebody else might feel camera shake is needed. My opinion about handheld footage is that it brings some immersiveness in a different but similar way to how anamorphic lenses give off a feeling of immersiveness. A whole sequence can be shot/filmed with anamorphics the same way a whole sequence can be shot/filmed handheld whether needed or not. Another thing handheld with a 55mm will never be stable.
