I do like that Penelope isn’t upset about Colin not liking her back, you can’t make people like you back,but just how he said it. He could have said anything else like ‘No, I’m not courting her, but she is a catch’ (but in a Regency-way). Even if he didn’t love her back, they are supposed to be friends and friends don’t drag each other like that.

If he had politely said directly to her, PRIVATELY, that he didn't see her that way but cares about and respects her as a friend, her feelings wouldn't have been hurt anywhere near as much as how things actually played out in the season 2 finale. But I'll admit it was GOOD DRAMA to kick-start their story for season 3. 😂

@@LadyJeneviathis is not how Regency works. The ball was always on man's field and if he wasn't interested in marrying a young lady, he would not make a move, as simple as that. Talking about "I'm (not) into you" is a big no no, like people would go out of their way to NOT to say what they mean out loud even privately and between close friends it's exhausting. So Colin rightfully didn't aay anything to Pen, but the reason why he humiliated Pen was because he's an insecure virgin trying to receive an approval from men.
Okay I’m gonna totally out myself here and make this comment about me (because #triggered) but…
I have definitely said things like this about my best friend of 10 years, throughout those 10 years… and now we’re together as a couple.. because well.. I’m a 🤡🫣🤭
No, but for real though, I do often feel a hefty dose of shame for how I used to look at my former bestie as a “no way in hell” partner. (There’s a ton of missing context, but yeah.. point is.. we all say/do dumb things sometimes..)
I love that Pen went straight to the point! She was not furious about Colin not courting her but how he spoke with the guys. He made her the laughing stock while calling himself friend.
It doesn't matter to me as much if he didn't intend to be rude / hurtful because good intentions don't absolve you from being harm, especially to an unmarried woman who has to navigate a system that is oppressive and elitist to women / new money /etc. If you have privilege, it's your moral responsibility to put in the work to be educated and empathetic to those who don't have those privileges. But I'm assuming he'll give her a good enough apology for her to accept his offer to help her find a husband so I look forward to seeing that. Hopefully it will be one of MANY instances of him grovelling this season. 😂

An ankle taboo is a myth. The fashion was freaking short in 1830s, shown ankles with no problems.
The ankle is more in the victorian era but yeah the leg thing is provocative because early regency era didnt wear panties and by mid of it to victorian era they wear pantaloon pants that split in the middle 😂
In the early 1900s showing ankles in certain places was absolutely inappropriate. My grandmother told me all the time that showing ankles in public in 1920 was a huge no-no
Penelope's new suitor looks SO good next to her as well! Like, that is such good casting, idk what it is with a man with a good beard but... it just FITS her visually.
Super funny, seeing as Colin couldn't grow a damn beard last season 😂 Colin has always been shown to be childish and young, but that suitor is a MAN. That's gonna be fun to see him be jealous of.
Also, I noticed Benedict wearing less and less blue! In this promotion it is yellow, in the latter half of S2 he was wearing mostly green, yellow and red as well! He's always trying to distance and find himself apart from his family, and I kind of have very high hopes that in his season, it is not his love interest that takes on the Bridgerton blue, but HIM that takes on THEIR colours!!!

I didn't realize it at first until now that her friendships with Eloise and Collin are similar. Both siblings treat her like an afterthought. They spend time with and communicate with Pen only when they want or need something from her. She was always satisfying thier needs but they never returned these good deeds that she always did out of her love for them. The only difference is that she wants to be more than a friend with Collin. However, they both were still terrible friends to Pen.
No, that's a lie. Eloise was truly a horrible self-absorbed friend to Pen. But Colin was genuinely interested in her, was always looking after her, like when he made her feel good after Cressida was rude to her. Or when Colin tried to save them all from new baron Featherington. It's not like Colin was bad or neglecting her except for that one dreadful time. And remember, Pen literally dragged him into her scandal paper sheets in S1, because she's super possesing over Colin. 1:1
@@mishynaofficial Collin is also self absorbed because in the first 2 seasons he couldn't see that his supposed girl bestfriend is in love with him. He was sooo blinded by his infatuation with Marina that He broke Penelope's heart over and over again with his words and actions. The last time in season 2 was when he openly said to other male members of society that he wasn't interested in Pen. This Not only shattered her heart into a million pieces, but also made her undesirable and all but scum in the eyes of the other male society members. For someone who's supposed to be her friend, he certainly didn't speak highly of her in the presence of other people like he was supposed to. If he didn't want her, why ruin her chances with other possible mates?. Also I feel I must add that even though he did not know Marina at all. The girl who he was previously infatuated with until she betrayed/rejected him. He still spoke highly of her and never had a bad thing to say about her. Why be a perfect gentle to a girl who you don't know but a douche to your bestfriend?. Yes he did protect Pen from the greedy Lord Featherington but he always failed to guard her heart from its biggest weakness. Her love for him.
@@mishynaofficial Yes she did smear the bridgerton name in the mud but in both cases it was to protect them from themselves because Collin was sooo in love with who he assumed Marina was that he couldn't see the venus fly trap that was slowly luring him in and Eloise was soo blinded by entitlement and privilege that while on her hunt for Lady whistle down she couldn't see that she had the answer all along. This same pursuit landed her in hot water with the queen. If Pen hadn't stepped in to save the day both siblings would still be knee deep in the consequences of thier swift and reckless actions. Also I must add that She also use that same power and influence to help another Bridgerton (Daphne), and got her out of trouble. Without L.W's help a.k.a Pen she would've been forced to marry that disgusting creeper guy who tried to commit an unspeakable act to her in that garden. Yes , she's caused a lot of chaos , but she's also solved a lot of problems too.
@@B.B.H2.0 being clueless is not actually a crime. How can you blame an underaged boy for being clueless? Up until season 2 finale Colin is a virgin, maybe in season 3 he's still one. And it's not like Colin was observant ever. Marina figured out Penelope's love for Colin, because she herself was in love with Philip Crane's brother. It's like blaming Elizabeth Bennet she broke mr. Darcy's heart over and over again, because it was her fault not figuring out he's in love with her. Some backwards logic right there.
Again, Colin did listen to what she said and what she wrote to him. It's Eloise who considered Pen the free ears for herself, in fact when Eloise did listen to her for the first time she figured Pen's LW.
I already acknowledged that Colin did a horrible thing when humiliated her in front of those aristocrats. He did it because he's an insecure young virgin trying to get an approval of 'cool' older aristocratic men. He should change & do better.
But Penelope was not an angel either. She was too scared to lose him. She knew Colin would marry Marina even quicker if he knew she's in big trouble (as it was later confirmed by Colin). That's why she ruined Marina and dragged his name through the mud. She chose to act creepy, because she's a control freak about Colin.

The way Penelope told off Colin and turned her heel and walked off was so like Pride and Prejudice, 2005) when Elizabeth Bennett faced Mr Darcy with a comeback line from when she had overheard him say, “she is tolerable I suppose, but not so attractive as to tempt me to dance.”
Later, in an embarrassing moment where her mother is playing up Jane’s beauty, Lizzy distracts by saying poetry kills love. Darcy asks her for her opinion on what she recommends to coax affection other than poetry. She smiles and says, “Dancing, even if one’s partner is barely tolerable.”
In an exquisite exit, you see Darcy fading away from view as she turns her heel the same way Penelope did to Collin.

I love duality of Colin when it comes to social situations. I would argue that out of all brothers, he is quite perceptive and understanding. When Edwina quits pall mall, Anthony's eyes find Colin, not Daphne or Benedict, even though both are present. He is also quite perceptive about Daphne and El.
But when it comes to Pen, his emotional intelligence vanishes. He is always nice, but does not realize that his words have double meaning. He is just dense about her standing in the Ton. "I discount all women, but I could never discount you, you are my friend." He assures her, with no bad intent, but chooses words which are very easily taken as "I do not see you as a woman, no one can".
And this is basically every interaction with her. He always dances with her happily, but never signs his name on her dance card.
We do not really know the context of his season 2 brutal moment, but he was likely just a dumbass. "Guys, guys, I always dance with Pen, she is dear to me, come on, no need to read it differently."
Look at the clip. Pen stops her correspondence without any reasoning, which likely hurt him. He does not act upon it. While being self-centered from time to time, he Is not vicious. He simply tries to continue with their friendship. He realizes she is hurt, he asks her directly about the issue... and realizes, likely for the first time, how much did he fucked up.
Colin is better than people give him credit too. He was the charming middle childl, unsure of his purpose in life, boucing around like a volleyball.
Yeah, I obviously don't see Colin as a cartoon villain, I just poke fun. If I really loathed him, I would skip covering season 3 altogether. 😂
Yes to all of this!! You did a great reading of his character, I would also say that I think he likes her more than a friend but he hasn't realise yet or he's been fooling himself about it, and since she has always been there he is quite confortable with the situation.
I agree. Colin is clueless about Pen and what he said in season 2 was bad but he's not vicious and would never deliberetly harm Pen. he does really care about Pen even before realizing he's in love with her.
he's just so used to having Pen in his life that he doesn't actually get what's going on and what he actually feels for her until he's about to lose her.
I'm going to be enjoying seeing Colin pine for Penelope as much as everyone else but I don't really like how people are making him out to be selfish and cruel. I think we've seen enough of Colin for 2 seasons now to see that he is very willing to put himself on the line for people and he has a good heart. He's young and privileged but those aren't things that can't be overcome with age and a bit of prespective.
Regency men and the bare minimum: I don’t remember where I read this, but I’ll never forget. Apparently British ton men were seriously pissed off at French emigres who would join the women after dinner instead of hanging back in the dining room with the bros, smoking and drinking themselves silly. Because all their women were getting with the French emigres. Like, yeah guys. That’s how things work

I’ve fallen into the Polin fandom, so let me share some insane clowning dispatches from there: someone pointed outLord Debbling looks like a young hot Santa and now that’s all I can see. AND because the character has to eat Colin’s dust, it feels a bit better to know that the Lord Debbling actor got with another cast member and they’re dating. Lol, guess who? The actor who plays Prudence. I love that so much 😏💖
There were plenty of people thirsting after David Harbour when he played a brawling Santa in Violent Night so that’s not cause enough on its own for me to rule him out as being found attractive by the audience. 😂
O’Featherington: somehow it’s even more impressive to find out, she’s using a Dublin accent. She’s not from Dublin, or even Derry. (Gallway)
I love the clip where she's on Graham Norton and he's absolutely giddy for her to tell the story of how she learned to do a Derry accent. 😂

I felt that so much. Nicola is such a powerhouse actress, I knew she’d deliver. I can’t wait to see her do the complete arc of this story. 😊

Penelope is a hypocrite for calling Colin cruel after the way she has been for the last two seasons, and not just in Lady Whistledown, she has been cruel to Eloise's face in both seasons as well.
I would like to see Penelope get her just desserts, but sadly everything - ESPECIALLY THE RACISM - will be brushed over or ignored and Penelope will be installed in Bridgerton House without another thought.
I will never be on Penelope's side, not once, she doesn't deserve to be welcomed into the Bridgerton family, and especially not by Kate and Anthony.

And this whole thing with Marina didn't happen (she doesn't even appear till much later).

@@barbarafrings9231 It is unfair to the book version of Penelope, but it is what they have done and now over half the fandom hate her, which is the consequences of the actions and words they gave to her. I am not interested in Penelope getting a HEA, I don't care if I never see her, I will see how the promotions go and if there is nothing to indicate more than 2 minutes of Kate and Anthony then I am done with Bridgerton. The only other sibling book I liked was Hyacinth's and I don't think we will be getting her season.

I'll watch all of them, even though I was a bit miffed that they changed to much in season 2.
The sister's spat was so unnecessary and they left out the library scene.

Really felt for luke thompson, every interview he's usually so articulate but in this one you can tell he was struggling with what to say without giving away spoilers, Benedict is so S4 and the set up for that starts in S3 (hence the not saying much) however, the hints he's going to be taking on some of Anthony's responsibilities, are they finally going to address benedict being the spare until male baby Anthony comes along and actually look at how benedict feels about being the spare. I really hope so!!!

- when she publicly refuses Cressida friendship after she insulted Pen (which makes Eloise friendship with Cressida worth)
- When Pen went to see Eloise, after Marina was unnecessarily mean to her and insulted her. Pen and El were also in an argument but El immediately rushed to Pen side to comfort her no questions asked
- arguably El noticing Pen uses her quills very fast hinted that she is paying a little bit of attention

What I love in Bridgerton is that they can make me care about about a couple that I previously had no interest in, it happened with Antony and it's happening now with Polin (except in queen Carlotte, they can get tf out). I don't think that Pen is a laughingstock of the Ton, I think that's just how she sees herself. I know that feeling, when you don't feel as attractive as the others around you, when no one sees you and how that chips away at your self esteem.
Colin saying what he did in front of the other men of the Ton is not only hurtful for Pen because of what he said about her, but he has basically trashed her to the other men of the Ton and made her even less desirable in the marriage market. Colin is a Bridgerton, his opinion carries weight. It's not bad enough that he has rejected her, but he's basically guaranteed that all the other men in the Ton will reject her now too. Pen must realize that when she overhears Colin and that could also be why she sees herself as a laughingstock, whether it's true or not.

Personally I'm holding my breath for season 3, as I think it's either going to be a hit or miss for me. I feel like the previous seasons were much more easier to be romantic, as season 1 they had a clean page and for season 2 we only knew Anthony, who made some annoying choices but overall was doing okay.
We have been seeing Colin and Penelope for 2 seasons already. We have seen their growth, but also their mistakes. Although every Bridgerton (main) character makes mistakes to spice up their character development, Colin and Penelope have really pissed a lot of people off. I'm thinking of things like outing my girl Marina (Penelope) and ruining Penelope's luck on the mariage market (Colin). Anthony apologised to Sienna, Daphne, Violet, Kate etc. Both Kanthony and Daphne and Simon had a whole plot dedicated to figure out their issues. Colin and Penelope are young and it shows. They're not bad people, but they have unnerved me.
Penelope's actions I condone because of her toxic household, but I can't seem to understand Colin. He gives me a huge ick (not talking about Luke). How he's sooo proud of himself for giving Penelope the compliment about missing her, like he's her hero. The little smirk- I cringe everytime I think about it. He is still a child in my eyes, both physically and mentally. It might have helped if they let Luke N keep his beard (which suits him really well!), or if they hadn't smoothed out his skin so much.
And now Penelope has a suitor. One that (I agree with you) looks mature and kind. If that's why Colin wants Penelope back, the season is probably gonna fail for me. I want him to realise his true feelings because he grew up and learned how to regulate his emotions, not because Penelope suddenly found someone else. It has been done before in season 1 and if I might add, a lot better. There has always been attraction between Daphne and Simon, so very very clearly. And even if there's immediate attraction between Pen and Colin this season (which I doubt), it's weird! 'Cause where does it come from? Because it's their season? Because he suddenly realised she's pretty? It feels so wrong and the writers are on thin f*cking ice.
Don't worry, I'm still going to be watching season 3 and making it my new obsession, but this is definitely on my mind.

But there are still moments between them in the previous seasons when it can arguably be interpreted that there is some sexual attraction there somewhere.

I can’t wait for season three Penelope has been my favorite character from the start. I love flawed characters as apposed to characters who are supposedly “perfect” like Mr. Emptyheaded nothing upstairs Colin bridgerton, don’t get me wrong Colin is a great guy when he’s not acting like a total oblivious dimwit but when it came to that scene he proved himself to be a terrible friend for a woman like Penelope. Penelope is such a great character but I believe she had every right to make fun of the people who treated her badly or the people she was protecting (Eloise) in lady whistle down.

The one thing about Violet bridgerton is. She does not care if her children get married. She would like them to find love but if one of Her children was genuinely like I'm not doing this. I'm not getting married. I mean, we see it time and time again. She tries to help them find love. But she's not gonna throw them on the streets. So I think Eloise's just going along. This season is because she doesn't know what to do like. Everything around her feels like it's been a lie. She's very alone. So she's just trying to cope.

I think you must have already established from books one and two that Queen Charlotte does not really play as important a role in the books as she does in the series and instead it is Lady Danbury who plays that role, however, because they've already made the Queen such a big part of the show I kind of feel Lady Danbury's presence feels a little unnecessary this season, but let's see. Additionally, another key fact that is very evident is that the characters in the show are not entirely like the characters in any of the books so it definitely does make more sense for Eloise in the series to not want to partake in the marriage mart despite whatever her story might be in the books. Certain reasons make her love story in the books plausible and explain why regardless of her opinions on marriage she would end up getting married, however, as they would be spoilers for this season as well, I will not discuss them here. I do hope maybe I can put it in a comment later after the season is out because I have a lot to say about Eloise as a character and the entire book vs series take on feminism. Talking about east asian representation, why do I always have a headcanon about Benedict having an east asian love interest?? There is nothing in the books or otherwise to support this theory but why do I always imagine it like that??? Also Benedict needs to play a maor role in this series because I have so many questions I need answered about that man and the trajectory of his life. ( I WROTE THIS BEFORE YOU MENTIONED YOUR HEADCANON OMG ). Yk what, I would LOVE to know more about the Mondriches. I was thinking about it and Will Mondrich represents new money, while the Bridgertons represent old money and I think that is very cool. I kind of wish that if we ever get a side season like Queen Charlotte, it could focus on Violet, Mary, and the Mondriches and their love stories. Ooh the new love interest is interesting and even though he is the second lead if anything at all, I hope he treats our girl the way she deserves to be treated for the time he does spend with her and is genuinely interesteed in her as a love interest because Jesus she deserves it and needs to RECOGNISE that she deserves it. Honestly go off with picking on Colin because damn he deserve it for TWO SEASONS OF BEING BLIND TO WHAT WAS RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM. Gentlemen's clubs is another one of those "generational wealth" things so I do believe that even if the two Bridgertons are not the only ones there, there is a good chance there are hardly any people besides them there because most other men would opt to go to the Whites or wherever, an establishment that stands for being born into filthy richness over making it with your own hardwork. I do hope from this promotional picture that it is Benedict knocking some sense into Colin like he did to Anthony. Oh Lord Sweet Mother of Jesus if that handstuff picture is what I think it is, as someone who has read the book, I am going to scream and possible run myself into a brick wall, THIS IS NOT A DRILL!!!! I am so glad Penelope PROPERLY dragged him out for what he said instead of just subtlely insinuating shit because that was so deeply SATISFYING to watch. ALSO THAT GAAAZEEEE, NICOLA WAS SERVING.
The contrast between the two promotional clips with Penelope saying how much she adores his kindness in the first one and then calling him cruel tingles all the happy nerves in my brain. I think the reason Penelope considers herself the laughing stock of the ton has basis in a couple of different reasons. Firstly, Penelope obviously has self-esteem issues, and it definitely did not help overhearing her all time crush and closest friend make such rude comments about her and laughing with his friends. That too, right after having her best friend in forever undermine the one thing that made her feel good about herself for having an upper edge on the ton. Secondly, Penelope was illtreated by some of the members of the ton as well, like when Cressida spilled juice on her in Season 1. Thirdly, this is Penelope's third season on the marriage mart which according to the times was not a good position for a lady of poor financial condition to be in. The financial aspect of the Featherington's is another concern for Penelope as well as is the damage the whole scandal and scam of Season 2 must have had on their reputations in the ton. Penelope's sisters are mostly spared this because they are already married/potentially will be married and so associated with their husband's families because patriarchy, however, Penelope still has to carry the weight of the Featherington name so she will be scrutinised more harshly by the ton. And I refuse to even entertain the aspect of beauty standards because I live in a blissful world where Bridgerton, a fictional show based in a fictional timeline does not concern itself with such stuff.
On that note, how did the directors of Season 1 even attempt to address issues of race, much less try to attempt to solve them, while aslo so callously depicting male r*pe of a black individual in the same show? You're telling me that they could deviate so liberally from the books in every other aspect save for that one scene and practically insignificant plot detial that could have been done without? Make it make sense Netflix. Anyways this comment has become much longer than I originally anticipated so I apologise! Thank you for your amazing content and I really hope you get to be a part of the press screening!

From the images of Eloise, she looks very angry and Violet looks very concerned. I think Eloise conforming to the expectations of society and the ton is purely for her families benefit. I think what Daphne told her about her own duty to marry well and act like a diamond because of the effect of not doing so has finally hit home for Eloise because of the ramifications of her scandal. I don’t think she is determined to actually marry or change, but more so to act a part so as not to hinder Francesca’s debut/chances of finding a good match.
That would mean she finally stopped to be self-centered, selfish and started to understand responsibility. I would love to see her mature and grow up!
And to finally find a way to be a better version of herself, where she can get the education she desires and act for women rights... Without constantly bringing everyone else down.

Colins Head is not as empty as people may think. He just isn´t emotionally intelligent and not in touch with his own feelings. He also struggels with being the middle child, having lost his Dad and he desprately wants to be seen as an adult and in the first season. In the second season we add heartbreak to that and the fact that he has no purpose in life. He has no need to work but being the 3rd son he has no responsebilities. He struggles to find his place in live and society and he way to much in his own head to check his own privilage. So there is a lot going on there just not in the right direction. Thats commen for young man his age, they oftend struggle to grasp their own emotion since we teach boys not to have them if it isnt lust or anger and there is the comming of age struggle everyone has at this age. oh and people also dont get taught to reflect their own actions and situation unless they go to therapy, which isn´t a thing in the world of the show. So he dosen´t realise where he went wrong and how much luck he has in being born a Bridgerton, he only compares himself to his rolemodels. His brothers and sees himself lacking what they have. He dosent see what he has that a lot of people could never have. Thats a pretty common human mindset, especially when we are young. Oh and lets not forgett that people in the past werent aware of social injustice as we are now and Bridgerton isn´t set in modern times. I think Colin is just a normal dude that has typical comming of age problems, just because his family has money dosen´t mean he has no problems or that they dont struggle internally. They just struggle differently. I am not well of but my Brother is and I had friends in school that came from money and they don´t realise how privilaged they are until they actually see poverty but seeing that other people have it worse dosen´t lessen their own pain, it can actually add to it. guilt and fear can be added and since they grew up sheltered they don´t know how to deal with that, they need to learn that and that takes effort and time. So having money, being white and a male, having privilage makes life easier, a lot easier but also comes with problems and they oftend have to unlearn a lot of behaviors and belives when they grow up and have to leave their shelterd life. life never comes without pain, struggle and problems and pain is still pain even when other people may expierience more pain. Thats what having a chronic pain disease has tought me. my pain is my pain, it dosen´t get worse because I know a lot of people don´t have constant physical pain and it dosent get better from the fact that there are people in the world that have worse pain or harder living conditions than I do. I´d still rather have wealthy people problems then the ones I have now and money would help my situaton and I relly do think that the world doesnt need billionares and that we should eat the rich but sadly thats not the world we live in right now so we all have to make do and do with what we have and do our best to maybe change that for future generations. So, basically live sucks for everyone just the amount and type is different XD ( i have dyslexia and my pc only knows german so ignore my bad spelling)

I love the relationship Landry Danbury and pen have in the book. Side note in the book Colin dose it in private talking to his brothers. Pen walks in and scolds him in front of them then has to be escorted by Anthony back home. So I’m going to love pens scolding him then walking away by herself

I heard someone else online mention that the dress Eloise wears was giving them my fair lady vibes and I agree that would be a fun way to look at Eloise’s season. However, I kinda wish they made Eloise’s love interest a self made, highly educated daughter of a professor type who had an interest in botany (is that what her book interest was into? Lol). Like shes so smart because her father provided her with the best education despite being a woman for that time period and like now she owns a shop withh herbs and flowers. And they fall in love and Eloise helps with the shop and becomes a working woman since she never cared much about being a part of the ton. To Sir Phillip with Love was the worst!!! I cannot imagine her wanting to be a mother and thats a huge part of that book. I want Eloise to have freedom and independence and someone to give her the confidence to write her novel and get it published.

There are some people who really want me to read the book first and those people don’t understand how hard the bee scene slapped in season 2 when I had no idea it was coming.
That’s one of the many reasons why if it’s an option I would rather read the book after, the surprise element is GREAT. 😂
There was a lot of speculation last year when people saw all the paparazzi shots of what folks thought was the wedding that Dankworth and Pru were together. The photo pretty much proves it. Also I think all of these pictures are from the first four episodes.
