NOTHING in this entire show is more romantic than Theo having already picked out books he thinks she's like to read so that she can opinion vomit all over him, before she even confessed that she liked him. thats so nerdy and beautiful! To someone like eloise telling her, "i want to know all your opinions about these books" may as well be "you are the bane of my existence and the object of all my desires."

@@spacecat1974 it’s not imposible! In a 1800s fictional world were interracial couples where the norm a relationship between people from different classes is definitely not imposible. Look at Kate parents for examples, they were from different social classes and they ended up happily married. I’m not saying it will be easy, as the ton will judge Eloise but this storyline does makes sense with Eloise.
And you’re right the Phillip from the show seems like a good person (not the Phillip from the book, that man was the worst!), but sadly that man seems so boring. I find it difficult to believe that Eloise could be happy with him, being a stepmother to children’s and living on the countryside. But I respect everyone’s opinions and look forward to see what they end up doing with Eloise.

    ok my endgame for eloise is this;
she writes letters back and forth with a gentleman, a la book, and midway through the season she storms off to him, either angry at him or in love or whatever, only to be greeted at the address as a stranger. she pays a quick confused visit, and leaves. as her carriage drives away she sees the postman deliver to a servant, yells ‘stop the carriage’ and dramatically runs out. IT WAS THEO SENDING HER LETTERS ALL ALONG. the rest of the season could focus on overcoming the class barriers etc.

I'm turning 30 this year and have never been in a relationship (might be demisexual, unsure about that though), only been on some dates. I also started studying again at age 26, recently finished my bachelor's degree and am just now starting to work in that field. So I'm very accustomed to disappointing people's expectations, yet I can't deny that it still stings when I hear sentences such as "She'll be alone forever if she doesn't find a partner soon" (my mother's friend a few weeks ago). But ultimately I don't care, because every decision I've made so far has been true to what I felt in that moment. I'm not gonna ignore those feelings to fit somebody's narrow picture of what a 30-year-old should have experienced.

Breathe and know yourself, and be yourself ! While listening to my parents, I failed at everything before the end of my thirties, disappointed my parents, troubles at work I didn't really choose, rejecting my first husband they didn't approuve, and so on... Then I stepped aside, one year of thinking, understanding who I was, what was my story, with forgotten traumas and so on... After that period, a lot of beautiful things came to me, when I was almost 40, such as a partner, family (children at 40 and 42, and I'm also a woman), new degree, new job. I 'm no saying you have to get those things in order to be happy, if you don't need them, I'm just saying : be deaf to others' expectations, and listen to your needs... (sorry for my poor English, as I'm French)

I’ve been there! I think I’m demi too and I was in the exact same situation until 24 (when I finally started a relationship). And I’m so happy and proud of myself for never caring about what society expected of me (and everyone else) prior to my current relationship. And I totally believe that if it wasn’t for my bf, I’d be totally single right now and maybe feeling a little bit confused or like you do. And maybe what I’m trying to say is: remain true to yourself. Maybe one day you may fall in love when you least expect it (as it happened to me) or maybe not, but I don’t think there’s anything worst than living a life that is not yours ❤ Everything about the way you feel is right, most of people just don’t get it yet. And, being about the same age as you, I think the only thing you (and I) should care about is just be okay with yourself. I really love to know about more people like us! ❤

The problem with Eloise & Theo is that class differences may be romantic, but they are difficult to overcome. Everyone believes they can do that, but financial difficulties can break apart couples. Irreconcilably even in the modern world. And considering that it is in regency times, Theo is disposable for the upper-class people. There is a literal danger to his life. Because a working-class person's life comes after the "reputation" of the rich.
The sad part is, even if there was no romance between them, if they wanted to be friends for life, their differences in class & the fact that they are opposite genders, means they can only be friends for life by marrying each other.

And the thing is that if Eloise truly chose Theo? Her family *would* have supported her as best they possibly could. They would have done everything possible to insulate Theo and Eloise from the daggers of society. But every day would be hard for both of them. We’re artists, we never let society dictate our life. We live apart much of the time due to letting each other follow our dreams when they don’t align. We’ve been through years of therapy. I've had to lie to my partner. It was by omission but that didn’t make me feel any better. Our only correspondence was through letters, which took weeks to arrive. It was a bad situation but we as a family (me and his parents) chose not to tell him until the situation had passed. If it ended badly, there was nothing he could do about it even if he knew. If it ended well, he'd suffer with worry for at least 3 weeks before the good news could reach him. He had an important job to do and worrying when he literally could do nothing, not even speak to us, would affect his ability. His mother told me to let her take the blame, it was no secret that she could be intimidating enough to make me comply with what she decided so it'd be easy to believe but I didn't want to lie again. I felt enough shame for lying in the first place.
His mother finally told him when it was time. It was a mercy to not be the one. She must've taken the brunt of his anger, by the time he could talk to me he had calmed and said "I understand. I'm angry but I understand. I would've done the same."

Reputation and/or expectations coming before someone's happiness (quite possibly for the rest of their lives) feels so unfair. Sure, social status has its importance (especially in this case), but the people who have the loudest opinions are never the ones that have to sacrifice their lives over it.

I find your phrasing amusing because, historically, that was the actual deal. Nobles got to have land and wealth and servants, but the other side of that was military service. At Cannae, more than 300 Senators, magistrates and Knights were killed. At the Battle of the Golden Spurs, more than 2000 nobles lost their lives. This expectation didn't really die until WWI either.

Isn't this a parody of the book and movie spin-offs of Pride and Prejudice with a juxtaposition of the character's gender roles of societal and inherited wealth? Personally, I find this to be an evolution in the openness to new ideas of both sides of the social caste and traditional gender in that historical context (Any historical context, honestly!) to honest communication with room for personal growth together, allowing for actively building each other up from friends to romantic interests, to the capstone of a committed couple at some point is a Bravissimo moment worthy of the standing ovation I think it truly deserves.

To maintain any reality this can never happen.
A woman with intelligence 200: years ago was out of place.
This was the time of Jane Austin.
Society was rigid. The show runners can play with mixing it up a bit but can you imagine Queen Charlotte going “a Bridgeton marrying a working class chap, oh goodie this would be fun. “
Eloise is very close to her family, she can push against the way things are but will be happiest when in contact with them.
The only way I see it working is to have them emigrate to Canada, it’s a bit early for Australia.
Can you imagine Eloise doing her own cooking, cleaning, washing?
She is way too spoilt, entitled and self centred for that!
I think a friendship is all it can be.
What is wrong with sir Phillip?
He had an abusive childhood but was university educated. He inherited title and lands from his brother, married his brothers pregnant fiancé who was not ok emotionally.
He raised the twins as his own.
Eloise was in contact with him via letters.
So how will they bring these together given that we now have Marina a cousin of Penelope not a cousin of Eloise?
I don’t think they can have a double standard.
Anthony knew he could never be with the opera singer.
Benedict fell in love with servant, that was resolved satisfactorily.
I saw someone had written that Eloise would not be happy in the country.
The Bridgestons live in the country on an estate, they only go to the city for the season.
With Phillip she could go to the ton or be happy in the country .
Where could she live with Theo ?
Don’t set your hopes on it, unless he is found to be a long lost relative of a titled person, or if he goes to sea and comes back rich.
Money and title or trade and servant class. That’s it. Maybe politics.
It would Be 150 years until it would be feasible.
    I love the Phillip story.
He is a good match for her.
I think the storyline of the incorrigible twins pitted against Eloise will be too good a storyline to pass up.
As advanced as she might be mentally she would never cope coming down to the working class of that era. Working class is Charles dickens style of living.
Middle class is quite a way off, at least 100 years.
I’m not sure hoe they can tie this together the girls are both in the late 20s before they marry.
I guess the children are just not mentioned.
I mean Charlotte had 13 or so children we haven’t seen one except in her own story.
The story had Eloise writing a letter of sympathy after Marina caught a chill and died after trying to drown herself.
    That could still happen.
There would be no reason Eloise could not write.

I like what you’re saying about relationships with Theo and Eloise, but I haven’t really liked Eloise so far. She just seems selfish in the show compared to her character in the books. Theo seems nice, though I hope that they don't make him Eloise's love interest when her season comes along. For one thing, I love the show, and really don't want to see it deal with the fan backlash veering away from the storyline in the books. But also. . .and this is just me, my personal opinion. . .but I feel like when I was younger I dove head first into reading these kinds of "they love each other despite their different backgrounds and they made it work" stories, to the point where I kind of feel like I've heard the story that Netflix would throw together for these two a million times before. Whereas, the story about Eloise falling in love with someone over the course of a years' long correspondence is actually a bit more new to me? But that's just me! And I'll be excited to see where they go with the show either way.

Tldr: Theo is Eloise’s Savannah, and #EloiseAndPhillipFTW
Eloise and Theo are cute and have chemistry, but they lack maturity, selflessness and are very similar to Anthony and Savannah from season 1 in that there is not enough reciprocity on both sides.
Savannah deserved better than what Anthony gave her, and so does Theo. Theo is too mature for Eloise and would have had to put up with spoilt, entitled, privileged nonsense from her if they continued.
Eloise and Phillip in the books are not very compatible, and because of poor planning and impulsiveness on Eloise’s part, are thrown into a situation where Eloise has to learn humility, patience, empathy and consideration for others.
She is a wonderful character but she has a long way to go before she is willing to take responsibility and accountability for herself and her actions. The way she comes to that realisation and takes ownership of her mistakes as well as takes on the responsibilities of being a partner, parent and sibling in “To Sir Phillip, With Love” is what redeems her from being essentially the “Emma” of the Bridgerton family: extremely intelligent, loyal and perceptive but self-righteous, judgemental and impatient.

Everything that this video says is important for a healthy relationship foundation is eliminated in her book. I was SO excited to get to her book after season 1 and was so brutally disappointed by what a tragic “romance” she had. Trapped, surprised by him revealing he had children (after 1yr of correspondence), expected to be the primary caregiver, and constantly told to shut up, stop complaining, that she’s annoying.
Somehow I don’t find the idea of succumbing to Stockholm Syndrome a particularly romantic story.

@@perioddramaedits6458 I don’t condone forcing her into “a life she never wanted”. However, as a desi woman who used to state loudly and proudly that I never wanted to get married or have kids, what we want may/may not change over time.
Eloise showed her immaturity in the books and series by continually ignoring other people’s feelings, privacy, autonomy and even their priorities because she believes she knows better.
She judges Daphne for wanting a home and children, and in fact, her full book is FILLED with excerpts from her letters to others in her family displaying an admirable desire to connect and support, but an unknowing tendency to judge without knowing or understanding.
I do not support her being forced into anything against her will, but no1, and I mean NO1, forced her to get into that carriage and hop off to an unknown person’s home without a) letting her family know (they deserved to hear it face-to-face and not by note), b) no letting the person know so that they could arrange the chaperone THEY suggested before her arrival and c) without an ounce of planning aside from: just set out impulsively because my best friend who was supposed to grow old with me fell in love with my brother and they’re getting married.
She is spoilt, inconsiderate and judgemental, that’s just part of who she is and she grows out of it, which is the point of growing up and also a part of writing realistic, well-rounded, compelling characters.
Phillip is a flawed man, but he not only admires Eloise, he tries to adapt to and address her needs. Eloise also needs to be needed and likes managing things. Theo judged her for something that was beyond her understanding and her control, and while that makes Theo and Eloise similar, it does not make them compatible. Also, could we please not throw around “Stockholm Syndrome” without taking into account that she went there of her own volition and STAYED of her own volition??

    • @TaniDeepavaliNawaz

@@in2itivelady just reread the book recently and if anything, the book is more often filled with Phillip admiring her, his children pranking, harming, trying to make amends and then admiring her.
Eloise mentions more than anyone else that she knows she talks too much, and as someone who talks too much and tries to hold it in, (and I talk about as much as I type 🤦🏾‍♀️) it can get overwhelming for anyone not used to or prepared for it. That doesn’t make them bad or cruel for asking/telling me to shut up, especially if they apologise and make up for it later.
Theo is an ill-conceived first love who literally cuts ties with her and labels her a spoilt brat without making allowance for “of course she is, she’s never known anything else, but she’s a human and can grow”. Phillip not only does that, he doesn’t think he deserves her and then tries to do better for himself, her and his children.
