I so badly wanted to play this game as a kid. i still have memories of seeing it in the wild during a family trip and begged to play it but they refused because it's a FAMILY trip. Still wish I was able to play it to this day >_
Actually, the 1 star and a 2 star ranks are possible to get. It's just that you have to crash _a lot_ and not hit Eggman at all in order to get such a low ranking. (In fact the 2 star rank is the hardest to get)
It's a question for quite a few Sonic games, when he can run so fast why does he need one! We think this was the first game to feature him in a car, followed by Sonic Drift 1 & 2 and Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing. Sonic R is one of the few racing games where he races on his feet and not in a car. Does he need to be in a car the answer is no!

In order to get them you have to hit the side of the wall almost endlessly we have since discovered.
