Waipi’o to Waimanu Valley. I did this trail in year 2000 ones. The beautiful hike travels from the Waipi'o Overlook to Waipi’o Beach and then up the other side of the valley on the Muliwai Trail, sometimes called the Z trail due to it's appearance from the beach. The Muliwai Trail travels all the way to Waimanu Valley. One of the most majestic places in Hawaii with some of the highest waterfalls in Hawaii like the Wailikai Fall and many more. Definitely a very challenging day hike for inexperienced hikers. Be aware the trail goes in and out of 14 smaller valleys that can flood during heavy rains. I recommend starting at the trailhead as early as sunrise. Bring a water purification system and enjoy!

dont be fooled by the quick video this guy is definitely a high level hiker, i can't believe you did that hike in a day and even back up to the waipio lookout! mad props you are a machine
So nice - Really nice to see you combine your talents as a hiker, photographer, video editor story teller and knowledge of Hawaii to produce such beautiful pieces. Don't stop! Kudos.
Thank you so much for your support Nick.
Thank you for sharing. Been in there in the 1980's and your video brings back memories, thank you again very much.
Thank you. I am glad you enjoyed it.
Absolutely Awesome film!! Thank you so much for you contribution!!
Thank you for watching.
Great video, love the drone footage!
Thank you Erick.
Great video! Thank you!
Waaaau was für ein wunderschöner Film, traumhafter Einblick und absolutes Fernweh 🌺danke für deine tolle Arbeit 😘🤗
Thank you.
Amazing!
The road is currently closed to anyone other than residents of the valley. The road is going to be completely redone for safety reasons. No walking down it either. It's going to be closed for years. Believe it or not my friends and I used to ride our mountain bikes down that road to the very back of the valley and then ride back up no stopping. 4wds would stop just to watch us. That was back in the 90s. Too many vehicles these days to do it safely.
Will be interesting to see how long it will take.
I thought they decided to keep it the same?
@@anthonywike8042 Who knows if they even know what they're going to do. Last I heard from someone who lives down there it's still only open to residents but others are still driving down there.
@@lavapix Yah there is a video ruclips.net/video/sLPiRW2URzA/видео.html looks like it turns into a cluster f***. but what can they do? make it four lanes??? lol there really isnt much they can do but limit or charge or something. i had a local tell me "cats out of the bag". I dont think its gonna get any better to be honest. Its sad, world is overpopulated as hell.
@@anthonywike8042 A waterslide from the lookout to the beach :-)
Having done this hike, by bad luck it took me three attempts. Twice I tried the hike, but the Waipio river had high water, a bummer considering I am from Pennsylvania. The third time I made I across and did the hike. Waimanu is nice. Quite a few wild boar. Great swimming in the plunge pool of the waterfalls.
Epic absolutely brilliant, congratulations Tobi
Thank you. Next time we go together.
@@TobyVisuals808 Sadly we are not allowed into the US while US residents can enter the EU without much of a fuss
Fantastic work and great descriptions and pointers. I was on top of the last end you did not go up in Hawi. At the time, my children were too small to do that hike. I definitely want to drive up there from Puna and do that do that hike one day….maybe even camp🤙
A DREAM! Thank you for motivating us to visit Hawaii with each and every video of yours ! I can’t wait to get there ! Perfect and super suitable music and very informative content! Mahalo! 🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺
Thank you. Hope you will have a great trip.
@@TobyVisuals808 thank you! If no restrictions for Hawaii till then, we will knock on your door too ☺️
Thx for sharing...
Very nice I like their once before I born n in honokaa n now live in California thank u mahalo wally
Thank you Wallace.
Great video! I would love to try this hike one day. But just watching the hike back up to Waipio lookout got me feeling tired 😭
Hey, that is the hard part.😅
nice, seeing how I cant do this because of a broken foot I appreciate it
Unfortunately access to the trail is closed at the moment.
@@TobyVisuals808 I got welcomed down, but I only made the rd. hike :)
@@anthonywike8042 I'm glad to hear that you had a good time.
Very well done
Thank you kcwes.
Nice work! Now you done the big backpackings in Hawaii, only miss the Haleakala right?
Thank you. Yes, correct. Perhaps Moloka'i.
waterfall at the third gultch is called queen's bath.
Aloha brah! I’ve always wanted to hike this trail for so long.
How long did it takes you to hike there? How many miles is it?
Thanks! 🤙🏾
Aloha Mike. It took me, including filming about 6 hours. I would say about 10+ miles from Waipi'o lookout to Waimanu one way. Enjoy!
Hi Toby! Great video! I loved your one about Kalalau which I watched several times before completing it in June of this year. What a hike of a lifetime!
For this one, would microspikes help for the hike down? How many days would you recommend staying & finally how hard is ir to get the permit?
Thank you, Kathy. I am glad to hear you had a great trip on the Kalalau Trail. Microspikes may help especially when it is wet. When I went it was totally dry, sandy, rocky and slippery. Just take your time on the way down and you will be fine. I would recommend at least 2 days at Waimanu so on your second day you can visit Wai’ilikahi Fall. Spectacular! I just looked at the reservation system. Definitely easier than Kalalau. Campsite #2 would be my recommendation. I am actually standing at #2 when talking about the hike. One more thing, I had perfect cell coverage just before dropping down into Waimanu. Enjoy your trip, make sure to check the weather forecast especially this time a year. Enjoy!
@@TobyVisuals808 Great! Thanks for the tips. I know it rains all the time in Hawaii (I work on Oahu couple months out of the year), but is there generally a "drier" time that would be good to do this hike that you recommend.
@@kathyoconnor-phelps156 Definitely the summer months are the best time to have a dry trail.
MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!! 🎄🎇🏵🌹🌲🍀
Very cool video. How long it takes in general for the hiking? 4 or 5 hours?
Thank you. It took me about 5.5h starting from the Waipio lookout.
Is there a place to park at the bottom of Waipio valley road to avoid walking up and down the road?
I don't think so. Luckily I was able to park at a friends house near the lookout since I was concerned too about the parking situation.
Lived back in Waimanu Valley in 1975 for 3 months. No people, no permits, no restrooms. Great times, body surf and hike all day. Plenty coconut, wild papaya, wild banana, little shrimps in the stream. Hunters shot a boar and we had buried, steamed pig.
The good old days. Now you can not even go there anymore.
Can you talk a little bit about how you treat your water?
I was using a Sawyer Squeeze with a CNOC 2L Water Container. amzn.to/3E19SSb amzn.to/3DUrOOB
This may sound naive, but what are the consequences if a non resident gets caught doing this hike?
Hello - Is this truly closed for hiking or are there other ways to access it? Has the status changed to be open again? Does anyone know?
@@TobyVisuals808 - do you have a more exact link or can you just tell me the answer? I just don't know where to look on the site. -thanks

As far I know it is only possible if you trespass several private properties.
