    Don't forget, in the description are direct page number references for important information in both the Core Rulebook and Easy Mode.

    Red is gonna be my first GM experience. Coming from 5E, the table is cool with trying something different and Red was our choice for a backup/need a break from 5E game. I volunteered to run it because I'm a big fan of 2077. Full disclosure I'm terrified of running a game, my DM is a natural, but he has been great helping with learning systems, in addition to all these videos I stumbled upon a while back. I think our Red sessions are gonna go over pretty well.

      Just remember, you're not the only first timer at that table in your game, and you'll do awesome. If you're still very worried, peek at least at the structure of Getting Paid in Easy Mode.
      Use cover, and make sure your players know to use cover too. Unlike in D&D where the environment is mostly destructible just for narrative, cover in Red all has HP. Don't go writing out every single tile's HP, just make a rule of thumb and keep a little note if they do shoot at something someone is hiding behind.
      Combat can feel odd at first, since you'll rely on what weapon is being used and what the DV is to hit rather than an opponent's AC. Thing is, once you know the distance that your gun is the best at by heart, combat flies by.
      Take your time, make a few mistakes too. If everyone dies, it's fine as well, because you all at least tried and nothing says you can't use the same characters in the next game if you all feel that is a good 'test run' if you catch my drift.
      Careful, how flexible Red can be in terms of making the exact character you want will be addicting. There's a reason I make build videos, it's just fun building in the game.

      Best advice I can give : Your dm was in your postion once , possibly with the same system as their dm , they didn't just naturally come out like this as a dm. They stumbled and flubbed and improved on the fly BUT they enjoyed it and kept doing it and refining it until they became the dm you know them as and you enjoyed it. This is your journey to becoming a dm that will one day be on the other side of this conversation. Knock em dead

    For the tip about lore: In fact not remembering everything is possibly a better option, as it allows people to discover and find their own answers and form their own views of Night City as well as potentially allows you to create a divergent night city isntead of stringently having to go "this HAS TO be here, and nothing else can be"

    • @DiceTTRPG
      @DiceTTRPG  Год назад +3

      Knowing everything is boring, I'll happily still be surprised learning new things. Every Night City is different, and that's awesome.

    I’ve watched a lot of GM advice videos. This is absolutely one of the best. I really like how even though you’re focusing on a first Cyberpunk run, most of the information is REALLY good for any first time GM. Well done.

      I try to just get that feel of being at the same table as everyone else. I also am about to put out 3 more of these in pretty quick releases around other stuff that should help folks out.

    Would like to pitch in what Id encountered when I first started playing RED. The Jumpstart Kit screamsheets - Just Like Real, Definitely Not Kansas, Red Chrome Cargo, and Getting Paid from EZ Mode were the best short gigs that helped me learn how to run, play, and entice other players to play. Keep your first gig street level and everything's gonna be easier.
    To prep us for combat, I had my edgerunners buy their guns from the local shop at first, ask them to pick the gun they like, and offered the gun range as a stress-free zone, tutorial mode on firearms. Have them run through an abandoned building to just get a feel for skill checks.
    For the CP2077 fans, the first scav haunt mission with Jackie is an awesome gig that you can recreate in RED - 6 mooks in total (including mini-boss). Get in, get out, type of gig.

    I actually did something close to that opening scenario that I would highly recommend to all beginning GMs. Its actually adapted from a scenario in the quickstart of Cyberpunk's rival RPG
    All of your PCs just happen to be in a Bodega or Oasis store when a woman bursts in clutching a screaming child. Dig deep and describe the store and everyone in it; it will ground the game and the players and make the world feel real before you kick things off with a bit of ultraviolence
    Three optioms here;
    1) A grenade explodes, centered on the door and throwing the shop into disarray
    2) Some Gonk sprays bullets through the windows; everybody rolls Concentration vs. Autofire
    3) A stolen van/car plows through the front door, turning some unlucky choom into paste.
    Then you have some Mooks storm in looking to kill the woman and the baby, but they aren't picky about who else dies.
    The PCs don't even have to know eachother for this to work, they could learn they're a good team by helping each other survive that night

    I'm planning on running my first campaign soon, and while I'm a bit nervous (I've only ever DMed D&D, and I only got to run one campaign there), I'm excited to try out all the things Night City has to offer. I'm keeping the premise simple for now: The PCs haven't been able to find work for a minute, and rent's almost due. So they end up doing a gig for some chromed up gonk in the Old Combat Zone, trying to make his mark in the Fixer biz. The job: A modified version of Red Chrome Cargo, where instead of working for Hornet, they'll be a third party intercepting the package and taking it before Hornet's train reaches the Hammerhead. That way there's some danger, a ticking clock, and if the party succeeds, they'll have not only a potential new boss, but two new enemy factions to worry about.
    Or things go sideways and everyone flatlines. But hey, welcome to Night City, right choom?

      Like Dice said, the only thing that matters is that everything is fun. I run an Actual Play over on Twitch, and I had half my party die in last week's session. After that session ended, they said it was some of the most fun they've had in a TTRPG. Death in Cyberpunk is expected to an extent, just make sure the death is loud and memorable choom. That's the real goal of any Cyberpunk character.

      Can confirm, half of that party did die. I joined right as it happened and just sat there going "Oh, whelp, I'm bad luck."

    My game start was my crew as part of a "protection gang" a group of people who try to keep their block safe at the edge of one of the combat zones... they don't have to like eachother but they have a boss of this gang that gives them jobs/leads to talk to fixers or whatever... their goal is to improve the quality of life of people living under protection of the gang, mostly via fresh food...these actions are secretly eating at continental brands profit margin as more and more people come to their bustling block of fresh food... as they grow their corporate enemy plots to get rid of them.

    Lol I'd love to experience one of your games. I run my own campaign and we've been at it for awhile. It's my first game to ever run and it's been a blast. Many mistakes but fun nonetheless. The only issue I've had is that it's hard to turn up the difficulty on my players because one or two of them complain even if they do have the advantage. Regardless. Its been a blast. Running a cyberpunk campaign is a lot of fun but man does it get difficult to keep up with.

      The lore is awesome, and there are tons of sources. But for someone brand new coming in, overload is always gonna be a possibility and a problem. I don't want them to act as if it doesn't exist, but I do want them to focus just on being comfortable first with actually playing the game.

    So, i really wanna run RED but i heard that compared to 2020, it’s a little streamlined and simple and a hit or miss. But I really wanna try this out because i love cyberpunk 2077, and the genre itself. I know this is a cyberpunk red channel. But is it possible you could tell me the high’s and lows? I heard it’s really fun. But i just want to know if its worth getting? Probably not the correct comment, but i would greatly appreciate it if i should get it. :)

      HAVE BEEN LONG TIME DM FOR A FEW SYSTEMS AND ALL MY PLAYERS LOVE IT... If your players like creative use of skills and Rp Red is the shit... a lot of the fun however is allowing the skills to do things thar the books mechanically have no real say for... for example, the science skill or the demolitions skill... what these skills can do are really up to the players creativity and the gm...so if you are a gm that can't read between the rules and get creative, your players might break your brain.... if your players are power gamers look up "Jonjon the wise 3 goons method"... sorry this is all over the place and a lot, but in the end from my humble Gm opinion is I don't wanna run dnd anymore and would rather play cyberpunk red

      It scratches my itch for a good narrative building game, while also keeping my friends who like loot happy too. Keep in mind I never played 2020, I don't hide that at all, I came in with Red. I made a video about the game way back almost 6 or 7 months now. I still stick by it.

    I don't like this scenario. It leaves the PC's always loosing in the end, no matter which way they roll! I mean you either save the Owner, but the civvies' die? No good solution, no winning solution! They can't "win",...

    • @DiceTTRPG
      @DiceTTRPG  Год назад +1

      This is less about a short-term win but more setting up a long term sequence of events. If everything is solved immediately, there is no story, no complications, nothing to prove. The big win would come later, rather than right at the start.
