People just need to have discipline and not buy the products with unjustified price increases. Heinz, Walkers, Pringles, Nairns are off the shopping list. A war 1200km away doesn't mean crisps and other discretionaries have a 30% higher intrinsic value than a year prior, despite what the price says. Companies that are taking advantage and providing poor value for money deserve to lose business. Board of directors paying £50k/yr school fees and heating their 50-bedroom stately-homes to 25c need not influence the price of so many branded products the way they are.
BTW the wholesale price of gas is lowest since April 2021 so the energy excuse means prices should be dropping. Failure to pass on cost saving in lower prices implies even lower value for money. Are such products retailing for (>10 x cost price)?
Agree on some of the brands profiteering, Heinz is one that I noticed also, ridiculous prices for a tin of soup. Keep buying that Convent Garden stuff on offer for £1.25, instead of paying £1.40 for a tin of the basic Heinz.
BUT the reason that consumer/retail gas prices take time to fall in line with wholesale gas prices is that energy companies purchase a lot of their gas and electricity months in advance in order to ensure fixed/stable prices. Usually a season in advance, but sometimes up to a year. This means that if wholesale prices rise they've secured a supply below market prices, but also then means if wholesale prices fall they've paid over the odds. It isn't a stitch up, its just how the industry works and how they ensure they can comply with the price caps set by government without risking going under if wholesale prices rise above that cap.
If gas prices has decreased 50% since. november.
Why are bills still ggoing up??
Because the gas piped into your home is purchased months earlier, sometimes up to a year, that's how it works.
Because someone want to earn money...nothing to do with real gas prices
Um, is this the same chap who said inflation was transitory? Just saying.
In the last three years, I have seen 3 faces regularly ...WHO director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Covid...Jerome Powell on US Fed hikes...Andrew Bailey on UK BOE rates !!
Because there all in it together
Andrew “Out to lunch” Bailey.
"Bank of England: Revenues -
101.59Billion USD."
😂😂💷💷
Still be getting your big bonus though .
Bit like the 'Sopranos' Tony takes his 'cut' first ?
I think that the governor of the central bank and the bank’s relationship with the king may be about a class society lending the king's money in exchange e.g. bank interest and that this should be investigated by a new state.
Has the penny dropped yet?
Last time, this man got it right, never
Prices of food should be capped - and reverted to 2001 prices - its a wonder how a few people have so much power to screw the rest of the population - possibly non of these people in the BOE have a mortgage/loans to pay so dont feel the pain of people they are screwing...due to their own fault of creating inflation in the first place...Butter was £1.45 today its £2.19, Sunflower oil was 90p per litre today £2.19, cheap shortbread was 45p today 75p, 12 Eggs were £2, today its £3.95.....seriously, people are being suffocated...
Need to get to 5%+. Yippee
how could this guy be the top guy at the bank, is this some sort of sick joke ?
Complete plum
He probably has 2
I think the king's relationship with Jesus may be about the people just "borrowing" the king’s money with the misleading parties.
This guy really has no clue , what a shambles
Another worthy contender for the " HOUSE OF LORDS " , for services rendered ! ( It's seriously laughable )
To many women involved now,no wonder boe doesn't know it's rs from its elbow..
