Very excited to watch this later! My current piano teacher was a student of Sándor, and she also edited his book on technique. It and Josef Lhevinne’s “Basic Principles in Pianoforte Playing” are my favorite technical manuals and I’d highly recommend others read them!
I had never even heard that there was film of Bartok playing. This is l ate I know he couldn't Gabe been in the U.S.Weve never had brains enough like the Europeans&Russians to document the worthwhile.Bartok playing Scarlatti tells us everything about his pianism he felt slighted when Backhaus got 1st prize.Backhaus prolly had bunch of former teachers on jury though his ambitious Chopincomplete etudes tell us he had it all too very early.
This is a masterful collection of Bartok interpretations. I have always enjoyed the soulfulness of Bartok playing his Evening in Transylvania and also Andor Foldes and Lili Kraus' playing his works. Thank you!
I'm always amazed at LiliKrauss personable playing. She along wPerahiasteacherwas one of the few in her day who knew what Mozart should sound like.Amazed that the Lhevinnes did!Arrau lamentable like Gieseking never found that road!
Great compliation again! So thanks for this, Bartok is such underrated composer. His folkloric acknowladge and style is enormous. Unfortunately i feel his music and musical ideas are so misunderstood. But these performings shows how bartok should be perform!!
He can hardly be said to be underrated. Underrappreciated by some people, possibly. But almost all respected music historians regard him as one of the handful of most important composers of the first part of the 20th century. Justly so. His six string quartets, , , the Concerto for Orchestra, and many other of his non-pianistic works cement his greatness in music history.
