Sounds like a tape-out feed! The sterling mic cardioid pickup pattern must help in back wall returns rejection. Great job. I used to live near the aDs factory in Wilmington The good doctor would like to make live recordings of the nearby freight train and play them back at live levels. My last pair were L810 but wished for the L 170. Then I was on to KEF Corelli then 103.2 for the midrange magic. Thanks again! -Sandy
I am the lucky owner of Michael Kelly's own pair of L1590/2's... I believe they are the only pair ever made in piano black (which all speakers should be, at least in my humble opinion). I'm currently feeding them with a PrimaLuna Premium HP Integrated. That's my go-to setup when I want to listen to music the way it was meant to be heard :) Amazing speakers... thanks for sharing... you have a great setup there...
This is the best soundcheck I've seen and heard on youtube in years, I'm not going to lose track of you, thanks. PS: translated with google translator, my apologies if there are errors.
Nice, I'm considering pick up a AS-2100. The ADS are very good speakers, I had several models. I had 1 of 3 of the 1st LS1590's made., But purchased there Top of the line, which were the LS2030 Recording Studio Monitors, I had the 20th Pair made of the 275 pairs that were made.... Killer SOUND, I drove them with HALFER HD 500, 1 per side! The I Bi-amped them with 4 Tam bergs Mono Amp/blocks. I just SOLD them last year to a friend, who has been begging for them for 20 years or more. Keep those ADS, even today they a Still SWEET!
Oh ho....Classic stuff, that's the equipment I was weaned on. As a kid I worked in a store in New York L.I. called Square Deal and that's all they had was the best of the best. I would get paid and they would get my money right back with all the equipment I bought lol.
Very nice from the music to the speakers. That integrated amp your using is one smokin amp right now...excellent piece of equipment Yamaha out did themselves with that amp. Great match-up with the ADS I think they are one of the best sounding speakers out there nice and laid back. I have a set of ADS 980s which are very close to the 1590s in sound instead of 2 10" woofers they have one 12" with the same midrange and tweeters. Great song choice first time I can say that I can actually hear the warmth of the system though RUclips....great job!
I have a set of Braun speakers that use the same mid and tweeter drivers .I blew the tweeters. Also had a non power sub woofer the size of a coffee table with 2x10 woofers.
I owned a set of L-990's for several years. I believe that I never had the "right" amp for them because they always sounded like they were "laying down" even when played at fairly loud levels.
Bought recently Yamaha as 700...and Yamaha CD 1000.Prity nicely surprised with music I can heare. The sound is...kide of big...tridimensional...sparckle.Only dynamic can be beter..,but..it is abount my experiance. In all...near perfect...and good velue, for sure For recomande👍😊🎼🎶🎵
Well , it sounds pretty good though my new phone, Samsung A50 ino a nakamichi compact reciever 1 split to an AIWA A60 driving L200's and L400's respectively.
Are those factory stands? Those look like stands that I used to manufacture, but I only sold a handful of sets. Picked myself up a pair of L1290's yesterday and am blown away at just how good they are...
Yes, they are the factory ADS bases that were an optional accessory. I haven't heard the L1290's, but, as with any ADS speaker, I know they sound great! Enjoy!
I have ADS 1290’s. I bought them brand new in 1983, as I was a salesman in the store that sold them Home Entertainment in Houston,TX. They still sound amazing. I have been powering them with a Denon POA 1500 which I bought at the same time. I am about to replace the amp with a Musical Fidelity M6si integrated amp. My only concern is how long can I expect the 1290’s to perform. Years ago I was able to replace a tweeter, but replacement parts are nearly impossible to find....any suggestions?...Thanks
That's a tough one as they both sound great. The deciding factor for me would depend on the speakers efficiency. Relatively efficient and benign load; Yamaha. Inefficient and difficult load; Musical Fidelity.
Please tell me. Is that TEAC UD-501 a good match with Yamaha "bright" sound? I mean, does TEAC UD-501 warming Yamaha in corect way coz i heard that they are forward in upper midrange & low trebble? Thank you in advance.
very nice sound and video/audio setup! can you let me know what devices and how they are connected for this video/audio recording from Sterling SL230MP? I'm trying to mimic your recording setup for my home stereo. :)
The mic signals are sent to a Presonus Audiobox USB 96. The Presonus signal is sent to my Macbook via USB and the audio file is saved via Garage Band. I then merge the audio file with the video file in iMovie.
Is this audio all from the one sound recording per speaker, and without eq? I wouldn't think the tweeter would sound correct with the mic placement at that distance & angle below it in the video, but I'm very far from an expert.
was any equalization applied anywhere in the audio path? I saw that the yamaha's tone controls were zero'd out. So, did you do any kind of eq'ing in the computer? If not, that system is nothing short of amazing.
@@FaSTiEJ257 Dang... I need to step my game up! Ive got an old Yamaha RX-V661 and some klipsch KG 4.5's and I cant get that kind of sound without boosting the crap out of everything. Both tone controls and the Eq on my computer are maxed out on bass. And I barely get anything. Maybe i need a better amp or something.
@Jingle Nuts that could be too. But I did recently put in a crown xli1500 into the mix and it seems to have helped quite a bit. It's a class ab mind you. not the newer class d
@@arcforceworld That Yamaha is Video Receiver and can't be good in music. Especially in bass level without a sub. You should get stereo amplifier for music and it will bring very big improvements. Try something like this Yamaha, and if you really like big bass sound you should try vintage Sansui. Cheers
Just stumbled on this trying to find out about ads speakers. Wow!! Sounds great!!
Sounds great! Makes me want to do a recording of my Infinity RS III/B speakers the same way! Thanks for posting this.
Beautiful Matt. Love what you did here ... everything. Thanks! Best recording of the L1590's yet. I just love that Yamaha sound with ADS speakers.
Thanks, Garry! Appreciate you comments here and agree...ADS and Yamaha are a really nice pairing!

Thanks, Liu! I'm a big fan of Yamaha amps. You won't be disappointed if that's the direction you decide to go.

Beautiful. I was scrolling through your videos. Do you prefer Yamaha AS 2100 or Musical Fidelity A5? Thanks!

Matt,
did you replace the ADS 2030 pair?
Looking at dispersion from those drivers, what's the point in having those mics so close
They're cardioid condenser mics and placing them at this distance provided the best sound quality and frequency response.

what acoustics?
Speakers are far to close to front wall, should be pulled out at least 4ft to create a believable soundstage.
Do you use a DAC?
I do. In this video I’m sending the audio from my MacBook to a TEAC UD-501 via USB.
@@FaSTiEJ257 thanks
where can you buy ADS speakers?
They're long out of production, I'm afraid. Only available on the used market.
